I'm 66. I remember Kent State. I remember My Lai. I know the depths thing country can sink to, but this has been even for me an eye-opening experience. This is the first time in my lifetime I've seen the mask come off. Lieutenant Cally was prosecuted. National guardsmen were prosecuted. Lynndie England was prosecuted. All of them were basically for show, but at least there was an attempt to say this is wrong. Gaza is off the charts. Not only won't they condemn it, they're literally bending over backward to justify it.

It isn't the first time Israel deliberately tries to starve Gaza. Israel severely restricted food entering Gaza back in 2006 after Hamas won the election. Dov Weissglass, the Israeli prime minister advisor, said at the time, "It's like an appointment with a dietician. The Palestinians will get a lot thinner, but won't die." Sickening. Even back then, the IDF had destroyed infrastructure including homes, schools, factories, greenhouses, power plants, and mosques. MP Alistair Carmichael visited the strip and described it as a "flattened moonscape," BACK IN 2007.

Hamas wouldn't have been created if the isrseli state and people wouldn't have been terrorizing the Palestinians in such an extreme way and if they would cooperate more with the Palestinian people. But if they did that, they wouldn't have any excuse to steal more land. Like the peaceful protest march of return, where Palestinians protestet for the right of return aka freedom, as they are not allowed to leave gaza, and the end of the siege, for better living circumstances. They protestet for over a year every week. 9000 Palestinians were shot by the idf. Imagine if any police here would have shot at protestors. What an outrage that would cause. So why not there where people are literally just protesting for basic human rights?

Yep, and our extreme cruelty and inhumanity has been used as a blueprint in UK, down to Rishi Sunak coveting the great ‘I stopped the boats’ mantle/trophy. This all was only made possible by a concerted, relentless barrage of messaging from media and politicians here, othering those seeking asylum and whipping up fear and hatred among the population. Atrocities may be interchangeable, but the tactics to make these more palatable remain the same, down to mocking and demonising those speaking against the narrative.

How sadly aware I am of that, many policies in the UK post 2010 were lifted from Australia / Ruperts mates. The abhorrent Universal Credit welfare system, that's modeled on Australian conservative policy, thousands died as a result. Many of the privatised companies brought in to the department for work and pensions post 2013 in order to force people back to work were Australian companies. There are a lot of unsavoury, dirty, and blood soaked links between your nation and mine friend. Funny when I think about things today, I mean, General Pinochet tortured 40,000 people and killed circa 3500 of his own people and the world went nuts for decades about it resulting in him having an international arrest warrant and trial set for him but he died. Meanwhile the UK Tory government here has tortured via needless poverty and killed at least 350,000 of its own people mostly through intentional austerity and the rest through covid incompetence due to putting capitalism before science and society at every turn, and no one says boo to a goose. The protests going on in the United States have changed a lot of perspectives in the Arab world, by the way, where people thought being jewish automatically means a supporter of zionism. That’s wonderful to hear; it’s good to hear that from the Muslim world. The more we all realize these conflicts aren’t about religion, no matter how much the media and governments try to frame it that way, and that they’re really about colonialism and land rights and are political conflicts, the more we can join together to oppose the real problems in the world. More people in western countries are learning about the history of the Middle East and how the western powers screwed over the people of the Middle East by creating artificial nations without regard for ethnic boundaries and imposed the creation of an ethnonationalist, colonialist state within their midst without consultation and without regard for the indigenous people. The Balfour Declaration should be more widely understood to be the cause of the conflicts in the Middle East, and that it was the western powers that created the conflicts (Lawrence of Arabia should be required reading/watching since it shows how Britain screwed over the Arabs). The more that people in that part of the world recognize that the vast majority people support human rights for everyone and that not all Jxws oppose them and support Is-rxel, the more we can all come together to oppose the powers that be that manipulate us all into hating each other for maintaining their power base and which create these conflicts for their own ends. As US Marine General Smedley Butler wrote, “War is a Racket” (that was the title of his book from the 1930s that he wrote after he realized his entire military career was in the service of corporations).

Question: if Palestinians don’t ‘really’ have a country/state, because the Jews lived there 3000+ years ago, does that mean all countries have to be returned to the 3000+ years ago inhabitants, or is it just Jewish Israelis ?

I'm glad Emma and Owen both made the point of how liberalism switches to fascism. It's remarkable to see that switchover take place. I'd posit that those so-called "liberals", were always of a fascist mindset, and maybe didn't even know it themselves. it's not that difficult when you're surrounded by opinions you agree with, people you like, in a country that's safe, and enjoying the benefits of a stable economy and government. These people are actually chauvenists and always have been. But they never realised it because their 'liberal' self-delusion was never tested. It's easy to take a position on BLM, when you're not black. It's easy to take a position on immigration when your career/job is not affected by the downwards push on wages. It's easy to take a position on war (Iraq, Afghanistan, Syrya, Libya, etc), when it's in the past. It's easy to take a position on free speech when you're not likely to be hurt/arrested because of it. It's easy to take a position on things that dont affect you, which is the case for all liberals who're actually just chauvenists. But the moment you have to take a position on something that's happening now, at this moment, where your voice has impact... you see their mask comes off. Suddenly they're unable to take a position on it.

Let's please stay on topic. The topic of this conversation is the genocide Israel is committing on the Palestinian people. Maybe on another day we can talk about other topics, but today's topic is the genocide Israel is committing. So let's try to stay on topic." Get out as many times as possible in as short a time as possible that Israel is committing genocide. And never stress from thst. The question "do you condemn Hamas?" Is a deflection tactic to derail any conversation about Israel committing genocide. Stop falling for it. Always keep Israel's genocide of Palestinians front and center and the ONLY topic of discussion. Even if that means they keep bringing up their red herring question, that just gives you an opportunity to keep saying over and over, "Israel is committing genocide" and repetition is the key to getting the idea into the collective conscience. That repetition is why you keep getting asked about Hamas. They want to get you to repeat over and over that you condemn Hamas, so they can make condemning Hamas the topic and get condeming Hamas into people's heads so they will think what Israel is doing is ok because Hamas is condemned.

If a lack of basic morality is revealed , lack of compassion , holding indefensible positions , spewing falsehoods to support their positions, refusals to accept objective facts, then clearly its not possible to maintain a friendship with such an individual. There are particular subjects on which there should be no arguments. If one is not utterly repulsed at what is happening in Gaza, then I would argue the spirit and soul has become corrupted. I hope you can see though that the world is waking up to these atrocities. That’s the first step. The next step will be to bring down our current global system and create a new one where everyone’s basic needs are met and war, poverty, and hunger are eradicated from the Earth. It happened in Gene Roddenberry’s “Star Trek” (which has already served as a tremendously accurate predictor) and it can happen in our reality. If you haven’t watched “Zeitgeist Moving Forward” on KZread, you might find a lot of deep meaning in it for yourself.

Everyday, the actions of the Israeli government and the IDF cause me to lose a little more of the compassion and empathy I initially had for Israel. I don't think I'm alone in that. I'm trying to not let those feelings apply to Jews in general, but watching everyday Israeli Jews talk about Palestinians in the same way that Nazis spoke about Jews in the ghettos breaks my heart

Ever heard about Jewish Voice for Peace? What about Jewish Against Zionism? Or more specifically, Noam Chomsky, Norman Finkelstein, Aaron Maté, Max Blumenthal, Glenn Greenwald, and thousands of other JEWS that have publicly sided with Palestine for decades?

​@@B_Bodziakremember that the people in Israel are under an immense amount of propaganda. What is actually happening is being hidden. Same thing happened to the people who lived under Nazi Germany.

@@fundidoarrojo269 All heroes - from a Brit with Palestinian heritage. Don't forget Gideon Levy a hero in Is ra hell i journalism. Also Miko Peled who grew up with the indoctrination and found the light. One more - Ilan Pappe who set the historical record straight with "The ethnic cleansing of Palestine".

An American and a British man passionately talking about palestine and being pro palestine. I would have never imagined seeing this day.

Thank you for having Owen on!! It would be great to see MR and he working more together. He and Novara are my go to sources for good coverage on Palestine, amongst other issues.
