Sounds like no :) But I'm very curious about the effects of sweeteners such as aspartame, acesulfame potassium, Splenda, or stevia on the body.

Sure, while it might help with blood sugar, we're not sure about the long-term effects of aspartame and acesulfame potassium. So, just be cautious with Zero Sugar Coke!

Those alternative sugars are actually not good for you. Some are worse than others. Aspartame is terrible for your gut microbiome.

@@WhoFramedMSGOkay, then the question is: what is worse for the body - a ton of sugar in regular Coke or those sweeteners? I guess it depends on the volume of consumed drinks. What's your take?

@@PracticalHealthNow everything is moderation! But as someone who studies food science, nutrition and agriculture I'll take sugars that are easily found in nature over anything synthesized in a bioreactor. Interesting side note, xantham gum was thought of as metabolically inert since it's discovery, however after the industrialized human population was given 50 years of exposure we developed enzymes in our gut and intestine to break these compounds down

It's a valid point! I'm certain that artificial sweeteners in Zero Coke, such as aspartame and acesulfame potassium, don't offer any health benefits. Also, I realize that in this video, I may come across as endorsing Zero Sugar Coke. No, that's not my intention :) My point was to emphasize that, from a blood sugar perspective, Zero Sugar Coke is much healthier than regular Coke.

As a type II diabetic, I'm so glad Coke made Coke Zero. I've tested my blood sugar after drinking regular Coke & Coke Zero. Regular Coke spiked my blood sugar! Coke Zero didn't affect it at all. Just curious, but where are you from? Your accent reminds me of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I am a type 2 diabetic and I have a huge spike with both anything "zero sugar" or "sugar free".....and I use a cgm (and have a medic alert dog and she goes nuts lol)........BUT regular coke gives me a little bump but not a huge enough one for my Dr to be concerned. 😂 we joke I have stupid diabetes---by the same token, my Mom-who is also a type 2 diabetic-can't drink regular sodas but can drink the "zeros" and diet drinks. Go figure!!!!

Wow, Jil, that's so unique! I've never heard of that before. Your case should be in medical school textbooks. Just out of curiosity, how does your body react to other sugary drinks or cakes? Still no spikes?

@PracticalHealthNow my blood comes down to a normal level or below when I eat and goes up when I fast--reactive hypoglycemia is what my endocrinologist said. I can also bring down a high sugar quickly with water. But I have underlying conditions: Ehrlos-Danlos, Sjogren's, Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis.
