In this episode we take a look at the facts, secrets and history of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Twilight Princess was developed and published by Nintendo for the GameCube and Nintendo Wii. The story focuses on the hero Link, who tries to prevent Hyrule from being engulfed by the Twilight Realm with assistance from a mysterious being named Midna. The game takes place approximately 100 years after Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, in an alternate timeline from The Wind Waker. The game went on to sell over 7 million copies.

+Anthony Morado It reminds me of Christopher Nolans batman in the sense that the serious direction they took it worked out perfectly. This game needs a direct sequel, especially since wind wakers shitty designs get reused in other zeldas.

+Christopher Rapczynski Yeah, I love brown and black in a game series that has been colourful and interesting previously. I love "GRIMDARK AND EDGY" in a series that was always comically evil. TP was fucking garbage. It looked worse than the story played out.

+Parks Doge What about Agitha's sidequests? Or Jovani's sidequests? Or the Cave of Ordeals? I mean, it's not at the level of Majora's Mask, but I don't know of any other game that has as many sidequests as MM. Or maybe I just try to 100% the game because I love it too much to finish it any earlier than possible.

+Anna Greer Right? I don't know what he's talking about. Zora's River, the fishing pond, Fyer and Falbi's gay clown cannon, helping gorons fix bridges, Malo Mart, collecting heart pieces, etc. There are TONS of side quests in Twilight Princess. I'll always love the game, but Skyward Sword knocked it out of my top three (Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Skyward Sword).

I really hope the next Zelda game is more towards Twilight Princess. A mix between it and BotW would be AMAZING! Looking at the concept art for BotW, we can see many Twilight Princess goodness in there. Hopefully those kind of concepts & ideas won't get scrapped for the next game.

Breath of the Wild may have been sold better, but it is less fun to play in my opinion. The world is beautifull to explore, but still feels very empty. I spent most my time exploring and all I find is boring shrines, useless chests and materials. Also the variety in enemies is very low, not to mention the lack of swordcombat skills compared to Twilight princess or Ocarina of Time. The soundtrack isn't very exciting as it used to be either. Overall it's a good game but became boring very quickly. But this is just my opinion.

I actually really like the art style of Twilight Princess, it sits somewhere between the aesthetic of Kino No Tabi/Haibane Renmei and Dark Souls/Vaughn Oliver's artwork. They did a great job of making parts of the game feel ethereal even though that sometimes meant putting excessive amounts of bloom on everything.

I, for example, like to draw , and whenever I finish a drawing Iadmire it, but then, after I hang it or whatever I start noticing things that I should've noticed while actually drawing it. This could be better or that could be tweaked, even when peopel come and tell me that it's excellent, happens all the time. It's only natural that Miyamoto, as a producer, always feels that something is missing, no matter how much anyone shouts to his face that it's a master piece.

+Jetto Very good point. The only reason I have seen about people's dislike of the game is that the game is "too dark" and "feels out of place" for them. They want Zelda games to only be childish. I strongly disagree with that though. Not only is the best Zelda games the darker ones because that's how you make compelling and strong stories. They also sell a lot. The unbelieveable hype for TP should say more than enough of what the mass majority want from the Zelda franchise. Of course, BotW did create a mass appeal too. It is a 10/10 game after all, with the best trailer ever created. You can't make child stories amazing as you can with dark, despair and serious themes. Besides, Majora's Mask & Ocarina of Time are both dark themed games. Both are fantastic and even those who dislike darker Zelda games for some asinnine reason loves those two games but still think the dark parts of TP is "out of place" and that's just ridiculous.

With a weird globglobgabgolab monster thing trying to eat you. Twilight Princess is still my favorite Zelda game, even though it wasn't my first. It showed me what The Legend of Zelda really was and to this day that level of epic atmosphere and storytelling is what I've come to associate most with the series. Midna is a fantastic character, by far the best character development in the series. I'm glad they turned around from a game that seemed childish to one that has the most mature imagery and themes in the series so far. I think Nintendo does underlying serious and serious-but-not-too serious really well, especially in Zelda.

+Whofan06 Twilight Princess is also my favorite, the art style is just beautiful and Midna is easily the greatest companion in the series so far! Plus how the monster, bosses and even the other characters were amazing, easily stuck out to me as more creative than some of the other titles to be honest. And while I loved Wind Waker's graphics, it being truly fleshed out in Wind Waker HD, enough to make my jaw drop even haha, the dungeons sucked. Twilight Princess's, however, were easily some of the best in all of the franchise, for me at least. Can't tell you how many times I've played the game to be honest haha.

Wolfgang Amadeus Definitely, but it's not as direct about it. Most of MM's maturity is psychological, under the surface, and brought out by fan analysis and speculation. While certainly unnerving, most of the game has a light-hearted surface (you could even say mask in keeping with the theme) and the classic silliness of Nintendo. MM's maturity comes from the darkness hidden under a bright and childish surface. TP on the other hand does not mask the gravity of the situation--in fact it's almost surprising how little is being hid from you this time around. There is no dressing up the dark bits like so many other Nintendo games do. There's blood on the gates to Kakariko, Zant's lips are sewn together, we witness Ganondorf being impaled twice, one of which results in his true and ultimate death. Death is not hidden or made inexplicit. It's like the maturity that has long been under the surface in nearly every Zelda game before it was allowed to remain at the forefront, unbidden, and framed and supported by further development of story, characters, and atmosphere. So in conclusion, yes, both TP and MM are very mature compared to the rest of the series, but for different reasons and in different ways. They get across their mature themes to very different effects. TP is as if Zelda tried to emulate Skyrim, and MM is as if it was leaning more towards Silent Hill on the mature themes scale.(Terrible comparisons, I know, but I hope it gets the point across)

Other than that, I love how it introduced the Claw Shot, I love its Water Temple, getting to the great Fairy was quite a challenge, I love the diversity in undead enemies, I loved going through the Twilight Realms and saving those kiddos and I loved princess Zelda's design and apeal in the game. "Wait, we're going to the top of the mountain O: WITH THE SNOW. WE'RE GOING INTO A SNOW MOUNTAIN. :D!!" Twilight Princess was my first Wii game when the PS3 wasn't doing too and game shows on TV kept talking about CoD and Fallout 3 to death so I got a Wii just for something different. I understand people mightn't like the dull realistic colours in TP, I kinda like the aesthetic design as it include Tron-esque lines and reverse -raining black squares in the sky, almost like something from a sci-fi but in a fantasy world, kinda like Final Fantasy. Plus there was still some humour in Twilight Princess with it's quirky characters like Midna, Agitha and Zant. And the Princess Zelda in TP's my favourite of all the Princess Zeldas 'cus of their more mature appearance. I hope Twilight Princess gets it's own remake for the Wii U or the NX. I'd buy NX if it has Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy 3 or even a new Metroid if there's any as launch titles 'cus the games make the console.

I know, Zelda wasn't any damsel in distress, but rather the mature princess willing to sacrifice herself to rescue others. Then there was also the companion introduced like Midna, which isn't as annoying as Fi or Navi. Since she did have a snarky child attitude that made her rather likable. The art style really brought the game home to me. It was dark and would really make me feel like a hero of Hyrule who has an important task of saving it.

+Brendon Dellinger I dunno man, the story in OoT basically boils down to "save princess Zelda" I'd argue that the story in MM, TP (From what I've heard as I've never seen or played the whole game) or maybe even WW is better than OoT.

  • @brendondellinger355

RandomNPC All the games boil down to "save the princess" except for maybe Link's Awakening. But OoT not only used time travel in an awesome way, with Link awakening to a dark future that he must save but it also ended up splitting the Zelda universe into 3 alternate realities. No other Zelda game did that, and with all the different plot twists such as Shiek's identity, I definitely have to say OoT has the best story. That's not to say the other games stories aren't great but I personally think OoT has the best. But hey, to each their own :)

Looking back 100 years ago, Jell-O was a little more than a brand name and an unfulfilled dream. Today, if placed end to end, the 299 million packages of Jell-O gelatin dessert produced in a year would stretch more than three-fifths of the way around the globe. And the Jell-O brand now includes extensive lines of pudding mixes, No bakes, snacks, and yogurts--fun products which meet the needs of families today. How did this phenomenon come about? How has this wiggly, jiggly product adapted to changes in lifestyles and eating habits to remain a brand recognized by 99% of Americans and used regularly in 72% of our homes? Actually, the Jell-O story began more than 150 years ago in LeRoy, New York. In 1845, the industrialist, inventor, and philanthropist Peter Cooper, of Tom Thumb engine and Cooper Union fame, obtained the first patent for a gelatin dessert. Although he packaged his gelatin in neat little boxes with directions for use, Cooper did very little to make the product more convenient to use. Home cooks still relied on sheets of prepared gelatin. These sheets had to be clarified by boiling them with egg whites and shells and then dripped through a jelly bag before they could be turned into shimmering molds. Today, Jell-O products are not only the largest selling prepared desserts but the brand is one of the best known in the whole field of grocery products. Its history through the years has been one of adapting to the contemporary consumer needs and desires, and it continues to do so. The brand is a popular and familiar icon. In addition to a restaurant and museum devoted to Jell-O, there are Jell-O fans and memorabilia collectors all over the country. Over 100 varieties of snacks and desserts are sold under the Jell-O brand. In the United States, every eight seconds someone buys a package of Jell-O gelatin, the desserts from LeRoy, New York, that started it all 100 years ago. We invite you to page through this spectacular collection of Jell-O recipes for dozens of ideas sure to please one and all. Enjoy!

+PlotlinePlus I think they're kinda pressured into not telling Miyomoto "Hey, let's actually make a good game and not base it around some stupid gimmick, it's not working like it used to!". Though I do understand, I would be nervous to shut down one of his ideas too, he's practically the face of Nintendo. Still Miyomoto needs a wake up call, had they not done this "cool" gimmick for every game idea there could've easily been another Metroid game out by now.

"Ounuma thought using your right hand to control Link swinging his sword with his left hand felt strange." That's all fine and dandy, but how about making lefties swing with their non-dominant hand because the character they identify with is now right handed? The feeling that gives me would be described as far worse than "strange." Would it have really killed them to give us a lefty option?

  • @cameronmoore7675

    @cameronmoore7675

***** I'm accustomed to using the stick with my left hand, but I would've happily learned to use it with my right hand if I'd been given the opportunity to aim and swing with my left, since that's what I naturally do when I'm not using the nunchuck attachment. Keep in mind that Twilight Princess was a launch title. I had to get used to the feeling of the Wiimote + nunchuck attachment either way, since it was new; so if I had the choice, I would've learned with the Wiimote in my left hand, and nunchuck in my right. It's not that the right handed configuration is difficult to use. It's that it really killed the immersion for me, which is the entire point of the motion controls. I always identified with Link since I was a kid, so I was excited by the idea of actually swinging the controller like a sword and feeling that much more in tune with the game and the one video game character I've resonated with most since childhood. Instead, I was forced into the exact predicament that the devs flipped the entire game to prevent righties from being in: Either swing with your non-dominant hand, or deal with Link having his sword in the hand opposite yours. Except, it was with the added insult of changing one of the defining traits that made me resonate with Link in the first place. I'm fine with accommodating the vast majority, but I just felt so insulted that they didn't bother to give me an option; especially since it would've been so easy to. All they had to do was undo the changes made with mirroring the game, which must've been done in beta or at least alpha.

+Crunch Dogs Since I'm left handed, I actually learned to use the analog stick on the nunchuk with my right hand. that was one of the reasons the wii was gay as fuck and after only a year of playing it; I moved on to the 360 and it gathered dust. Glad that I sold it. They completely abandoned left-handed players in most of the games for it bc we were the minority. I've played Zelda since link to the past. Imagine my dismay when I figured out that Miyamoto decided it was awkward to swing the sword with his right hand while Link swings his left, so he switched it. Yeah, fucking tell me about it. Bunch of fucking idiots. should have just an included an option for both instead of fucking over left-handers. ESPECIALLY since link is orginally left handed smh no fucking respect for a long time lefty consumer. Thank god they're abandoning this motion sensor nonsense and they're going back to good old fashioned gaming. This has been a casual gamer nightmare for nintendo.

TranzdemikSingr Miyamoto himself is actually left-handed. That's why Link was a lefty in the first place. I don't think it was his idea to flip Link's dominant hand for the Wii games, but it boggles my mind that he didn't influence the dev teams to accommodate both lefties and righties.

+Cameron Moore I think the option should have been there as well. Still, I didn't care and used the motion controls with my left hand and the analog with my right. As a kid I was so immersed that it soon didn't feel off to have my character wave around a sword with the opposite arm.

Sorry, but the mental image of Link with a gun is fucking hilarious. The man is already feral as it is, give him a gun and who knows what'll happen. But I also love Twilight Princess; its cast of NPCs is probably my favorite out of all the Zelda games. While not the best game ever, Twilight Princess is my favorite game ever. And Miyamoto-sensei? That thing TP was missing? More Midna. And an ending where she stays. Fun? fact: I imagine a theoretical Hyrule-Twilight Realm meeting would have similar themes, challenges, and conflicts to Bakumatsu period Japan. A historically alienated, traditional society suddenly meeting with a much larger, technologically advanced, rumor-shadowed one. There's going to be drama.
