The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Iceberg

For the first 12 installments, The legend of zelda has been a vibrant, lighthearted and cartoony franchise. But for their 13th game, Nintendo opted for a much more realistic, darker and mature zelda title. The first and ONLY Zelda title to be rated T for Teen on the ESRB, and ages 12 and up by the PEGI rating system, for containing scenes of animated blood and fantasy violence. And for the first time ever, The states receied a Zelda console game BEFORE Japan.

Good video on a fan fav Zelda, but it definitely needs a sequel. Permit me to list 4 things to peak your interest... 1. TP Link is related to OoT Link and (very likely) Malon too (He knows Epona's song, works on a ranch, and Malon sings in Hyrule field at night). 2. Arbiter's Grounds was a Gerudo holy site that was captured and co-opted by the Hylians (the Gerudo race can't even be found in game suggesting they were displaced and fled west after Ganondorf was beaten post-OoT). 3. Link and Midna's romance in the official manga (they hug and kiss multiple times, a first for Link in media I think). 4. TP Zelda in the manga retains the memories of her past incarnations (she remembers Ganondorf as well as OoT link, and is implied to have had a relationship with him).

They're all connected story-wise in the child era so they share themes. In terms of art design it is clear TP was going for a more "big boy" fantasy feeling. Jackson's LOTR trilogy was wrapping up when TP entered development, and the impact it had is clear, especially after so many complained about wind waker's kiddie look. The very world map for TP seems like it was going for a Tolkien thing with all the separate provinces and Hylian script.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and nearly every other major high fantasy epic were all directly inspired by Tolkein's The Lord of the Rings. It became the de facto template for high fantasy. It most definitely did not start with Twilight Princess. Majoras Mask was pretty dark but alot of it has to be deciphered and interpreted by the player. I literally played majoras mask the day it came out on my N64 as a 10 year old kid and I really didn't grasp how dark it was until I was older. The Twilight Princess however, I have always defined as a dark and more mature title. Even when I first initially played it from release as a 16 year old adolescent. I think it's more of a translation through technology and the ability to experience stories on consoles though. Because the Gamecube along with the PS2 were the golden era of gaming. They truly changed the route of game development and its scale moving forward.

Ah, yes, the first 12 Zelda installments contained such light-hearted stuff as witnessing your uncle's dying breath in the first few minutes of the game, the moon slowly moving towards earth to wipe out all life in a giant fireball, having to end the existence of everyone you met during the course of the game because they were all just part of a dream of a flying whale, visiting a dungeon that's literally a bloody torture chamber built out of bones of enemies of the Royal family and contains a big creepy white creature that wants to suck your brains out, the premise that the bad guys want to kill you in order to sprinkle your blood over Ganon's ashes in order to revive him and a GODDAMN ALIEN ABDUCTION. Truly whimsical.

@nipsynuggets4930 I'd want it to take place a number of years after the first game, being set in a land other than Hyrule. It turns out Link has been traveling the land seeking out another way to see his friend, Midna, again. He can turn into a wolf despite not having her, and his companion during his travels is Epona, who has plenty of dialigue with him when he's in Beast Form! The plot ensues and at the end, Link is finding himself racing against time. His portal to the Twilighg Realm is open, but only for a short window. He needs to save the land that he's visiting, and the villain or force that's against him is taking up that valuable time that the portal is open for. Also, Epona sadly passes away during the course of the game, leaving Link alone and causing him to reflect on his age. In the end, Link succeeds, but only has a minute or two left. He sees Midna through the portal, who has aged significantly. She says something like, "You mean to tell me that you find me so beautiful that you've spent all this time looking for me? You sadly only have two minutes left, Mister Hero. Tell me. Was seeing me worth it?" And Link smiles and nods before we roll the credits. Link receives letters from Ilia, Colin, Beth and the gang throughout the game, who update him on their lives. It would be a game that focuses on the passage of time, and how precious life is in terms of friendship.

What OoT and MM were going for was a more Disney-anime hybrid style. But because of the limitations of the time and the corners they took by concealing things in fog/darkness(moreso than was intended), they give off the impression that they were meant to be realistic. When they got to redo Ocarina for the 3DS, they came closer to what they intended, and its a lot more whimsical than the N64 version.

This isn't really an iceberg video. The iceberg concept has layers, with each layer getting "deeper" or more out-there than the last. You discuss a couple theories at the end, but it's usually way more than that in terms of amount and craziness. Also, typically the iceberg image (which is not shown here) is made by someone other than the person making the video, and some of the entries get cryptic by the bottom so the video has to guess at what they're talking about.

I love BotW but that game just doesn't satisfy my need to play a GENUINE zelda game even a fraction of a percent. It's like play an entirely new and entirely different game with a bunch of Zelda ideas and trademarks. Twilight Princess was the most mature, has the best story, has the best gameplay mechanics, the best character models. Literally just the best Zelda will ever be honestly. Twilight Princess is a game that hits really high points and low points for me. I liked the dark creepyness, especially early on AND it has two of my favorite dungeons in the whole series: Snowpeak Ruins and the Arbiter's Grounds. However, despite the highs of SR and the AG, there are two dungeons so unenjoyable that I honestly can't believe they were made by the same team. The Palace of Twilight was always (to me) immensly disappointing, especially after the buildup it had been getting throughout the game. And, no I'm not talking about the boss fight. While Zant was...unexpected I do actually enjoy that battle. But, so many of the rooms were just big, empty test chambers with no real design, even though it's supposed to be a palace. The other was the Temple of Time which, while much more interesting in design, falls short to me for two reasons. First, I think it was crushingly linear, especially when you're walking that big statue around. The second reason is more...abstract. Throughout most of that dungeon you're exploring this pristine, polished, majestic temple. But every now and then, you'll come across a room that is decidedly NOT pristine, polished and majestic. Those rooms will be dark, dirty and look like a dungeon. This gave me an impression that just beneath this shining, holy, surface was something foul and dark, and I LOVED that! When I got to the final hallway before the boss and found it to be another dungeon-y room with swinging blades and pits that would've been right at home in the Arbiter's Grounds I was thinking, 'Oh man this is IT, the Dark Secret of the Temple of Time!' I was ready for like, a giant holy construct that had become corrupt, like an evil Gohdan; or the remains of some twisted experiment. Instead, I got a spider. And, it wasn't even an interesting fight. Arrow to eye, swat it with a statue, repeat. When the main body went away for the second phase I was all 'AH here it comes!' But no, that's it. The second phase is basically just 'chase down the eye ball spider that is no longer a threat to you. Don't worry, it only runs away.' What I wouldn't have given for that last fight to be a Dark Link battle.

I remember the first time playing this game, it honestly shocked me how dark it was, considering that it was a LoZ game, usually (usually meaning everything except Majora's Mask, and maybe OoT) the games have a calming environment with nice music and a fun gameplay style. (especially Skyward Sword) This just seemed extremely violent and dark, compared to the last game they JUST made, being one of the brightest games in the series, Wind Waker, which will be my second favorite LoZ game ever. When I played Twilight Princess though, I couldn't even get past the first area, so I had to watch a walkthrough, and then I realized that, the beginning of the game is like pretty nice, just to draw you in, and then it gets dark fast.

I love twilight princess and played it a number of times to get the perfect run because it was like playing movie if done right. But one of the runs I soft locked myself without realizing it leaving hyrule in a perpetual state of doom. I was late night gaming and was in the city in the sky level and the dragon blew up the bridge leading to the second clawshot and I was just so tired and I saved and went to sleep. Big mistake because when I went back into the game the following evening I was at the beginning of the level and went to the bridge to continue where I left off but it was still destroyed and with only one clawshot I learned something. Link is not Batman! He's not quick enough to pull the grappling hook thing like Batman does and it seems dumb that he couldn't grab the flying plants with his bare hands to keep going either. I was upset because this was the first time I made a moron mistake in one of my favorite games or any game that soft locked me from continuing. The second is LoZ Skyward Sword HD edition with the original Wii glit that has been supposedly patched out now. I just consider myself lucky that I had a gut feeling that I should back up my save file remembering Twilight Princess right and before Groose's best scene too and I'm glad I did or else I would've had to start the whole game over again.

@@observerobserver2240 No this is late night gaming gone wrong, this happened on the gamecube when the game came out. This was something I didn't think would happen, the dragon in the city in the sky level destroys the bridge leading to the second clawshot once you've crossed it but if you save and reset the game it will start you at the entrance of the level and when you get back to the bridge it's still destroyed and you can't cross the big gap without the second clawshot. I rarely do late night gaming because of that mistake.

@@grnsweatervevo Your right on that, I turned saved and turned off my gamecube before I got the second clawshot not thinking that the game was gonna was gonna place me all the way at the beginnings of the stage and again you can't do anything without the second clawshot. You use it to hang off a targeted surface like chain link walls or the flying plants and use the second clawshot to zip across to the next target. It's impossible to continue the game without it. Again the dragon boss will destroy the bridge once you cross it so you need to get the second clawshot or don't save your progress. If you save right after the bridge is destroyed but not get the clawshot you've wasted your time and a save file. Don't late night game your gonna want to fall asleep at some point and you'll make the same mistake I did.

Ilia doesn't lose her memory from the attack. She talks about Link to Impaz in the Hidden Village. Her amnesia most likely came from the trauma. It is a shame that the game gives no real explanation for why the monsters would maybe want to kidnap the children, along with separate Ilia from them. If it wasnt a Zelda game, we'd probably be dealing with some Goblin Slayer aspects. Also, I really dislike the idea that all the HD changes were improvements. Miiverse stamps made way too many chests unrewarding. It used to be the only game that didn't let you waste good rupees from chests. And the tears of light are actually a downgrade. All the removed tears were just duplicates in singular areas. It doesn't reduce where you have to go at all. And they're already labeled on the map so they aren't hard to find except for the one in the shop keep's house. They're less of a nuisance than korok seeds. We literally lost content because most of the playerbase, I bet, focused on normal sword attacks (the B button bite) with terrible range, instead of using the jump attack to more easily kill all the bugs.
