YUKON MOTORCYCLE TRIP | KEN SHAPPERT | DAWSON CITY
SUBSCRIBE: / @kenshapperttravelsthe...
Join me on my Yukon Motorcycle adventure, starting out in Prince George, British Colombia and ending up in Dawson City, Yukon Territories, Canada. Along the way we stop in at Ksan historical Village and get to join in the celebrations for national Indigenous Peoples Day and get a private tour of the festivities. We also stop at Boya Lake BC, one of the best campsites I've ever been to. Then we continue on to the Yukon and Dawson City, where I do the legendary "Sour Toe" cocktail, with a real human toe. The next leg of the journey (and next video) is to attempt the legendary Dempster Highway.

This was a nice episode to see how others Celebrate indigenous day, glad to hear things are still holding on to their way of life. don't hear much of that down south. can't wait for the next episode. getting up to Dawson looks like a fun ride. Honda should take you right to the end of the road without much issues!

Man. Your videos are amazing. I am from Brazil. Moved to Canada 7years ago and since them I am dreaming about a motorcycle trip like yours. Amazing. I hope one day I can do the same. Please share with us your accommodations during the trip. Where and how you sleep. I am curious about this part of the trip and the planing.

Thanks Andre, that is amazing to hear! I have finished my Canada Trip and am going through the footage and uploading, aiming for one every Friday. I didn’t video too much of my accommodation as I didn’t think it would be overly interesting. I will share some on my new adventures. I camped maybe 30% of the time (I had planned on mostly camping, but…) and got hotels, sometimes shared with other travellers and sometime just on someone’s floor LOL. I don’t really plan more than one day in advance, if that. It’s more fun that way. I am actually heading towards South America now 🤫, I would love to get to Brazil!! I hope you get to do the trip also man

@@kenshapperttravelstheworld8845 Have a nice trip to South America. If you need some advice or have any questions about Brazil. I will be glad to help. I lived in São Paulo almost 30 years. There I don’t recommend camping or sleeping in the floor. Too dangerous. Have a safe trip.

I may come back and take you up on your offer for some advice when the time comes! I speak some Spanish and the lack of Portuguese presents me with an obstacle in Brazil. Cheers

Maybe I missed it, but what tires did you switch to on this leg of the journey up to the Yukon?

I don’t actually think that I specified this, I switched back to a set of TKC-80’s for the dempster. In hindsight I should have swapped them out a little later in Whitehorse or Dawson City, amazing off-road tires but they just melt on the pavement. And just wait until you see the tire problems that I end up with 😂🤣

Dude you're crushing it! Well done. What do you think of the cb500x now that you've got all these miles behind you. Did you consider the bmw gs850 adventure. More comfort I imagine and probably better all around adv bike.

  • @kenshapperttravelstheworld8845

Thanks RJ! After hating the CB500X on my initial test ride, I got it based on logic and reason vs emotion; and I have come to love it! I have done a ton of mods to make it what I want (suspension etc) so for me it is the perfect adv bike. But everyone wants something different. I considered the GS (and africa twin, KTM etc). They actually would have been cheaper in the long run! But I plan to ride to South America and the reason I chose the CB was everyone told me smaller is better in SA, and the Honda reliability. I would hate to be on a BMW or KTM and need some major service in the jungle lol. That and I can get 450km+ out of a tank of gas. For North America definitely a bigger bike would have been more comfortable, but I could not do trails on it with my skill level haha. It’s not a perfect bike, but I think the way it is done it’s the best 50/50 I will find. Thanks for the watch and comment!

@@kenshapperttravelstheworld8845 Looks like you had a memorable trip. I just back from doing the trip from Vancouver -Tuk - Vancouver about the same time as you. I got back on Aug 22. We had wonderful weather as well without your bug problems! I was on a 2020 BMW 850GSA and it was amazing. Like you, my skillset would hinder me on tighter trails but it was perfect for this trip. Glad everything worked out for you in the end. And yes, Boya Lake was stunning.

Nice! I think it is a memorable adventure for anyone who does it. How did you find the Dempster? The section from Inuvik to Tuk was quite challenging for myself and the other guys I ended up riding with, but amazing. The way back was easier after having some experience and knowing what to expect.

@@kenshapperttravelstheworld8845 We had fantastic weather and managed 70-80kmh for most of the Dempster. We were running Motoz Tractionator tires which helped a lot. I found it odd that a lot of the looser gravel tended to be in the corners. We made the run from Inuvik to Tuk in the early evening so by the time we got there is was getting late and cool. Was around 12C when we arrived. We actually camped right near the Arctic Ocean sign. Where did you start and end your ride.

I started in Toronto lol, but the Demoster part I did Dawson-fort McPherson, then McPherson to Tuk and back to inuvik in a day (including my breakdown), then inuvik to eagle plains, and dawson again. Glad I did it, not sure I’ll do it again hahaha
