Along the way, we discover how gold was extracted using dredges of the past, explore defunct paddle wheelers, learn about the cultural heritage of the area and finally partake in the famous Sourtoe cocktail of Dawson city! Once making it back to Alaska, we briefly stop in Chicken before driving on to Tok where we finally got our rig cleaned up.

So cool that you got to travel with an RV caravan. A bit of community when you are mainly traveling by yourselves. I’m planning on going in 5 years and as a single it would be fun to spend part of the time in a caravan.

Again, many thanks for your visit(s) to the Canadian North, and your discovery of our mutual differences. As for the Toe Cocktail, any "disgust" you might have felt was basically ingrained in so many of us, particularly North Americans. Given its time in first, rum, and then, salt, it is more akin to a leather key fob than a human body part. HAD it inadvertently been injected by someone, the human body would have only recognized the protein, fats (if any were left), and indigestibles. Our perceptions of food is only a part of our cultures, and as you may have already discovered, varies widely within a country, and even more worldwide. For What It's Worth, I happen to enjoy deep fried, spicy grasshoppers... taste a well bit like a crunchy, mild chip. Cheers from here, and THIS Canuck is VERy grateful for your inspirational, and aspirational journeys, open-mindedness, and adventuresome spirits. NOW. There is a LOT more of this nation to see. Just head East...

Very nicely narrated. We really enjoyed Dawson City too. We visited twice this summer- quite possibly the most authentic feeling mining rush (gold/silver/copper) town we’ve ever visited and we live in Sacramento, heart of the California Gold Rush. Thought about downing a Sour Toe cocktail, but got there at Happy Hour time and they don’t serve them until after 9PM🤮 Also, thanks for the taste of the RV caravan. How long did it take you to ferry across the River? We hear it can take over 6 hours on caravan days. We overnighted behind downtown Chicken, quite a colorful place too.

Near Tok, y’all should’ve stopped and talked to the lady who was featured in National Geographic’s “Women of The Alaska Pipeline.” I met her sitting outside smoking a cigar in 2000 while camping in Alaska. She might have died since then though. She and husband ran a guide and B&B on a lake there. Showers were $50 a person in winter at snow machine races, and people lined up to take a shower at their place. Not many people can survive year round in Alaska. Still only around 700,000 people.

With a grunt and a sigh the chicken rolls over and lights a cigarette. Upon which the egg says disgustedly, "I see we finally answered that age old question." Call up the bar with the toe drinks and tell them to hire a few bands for a toe jam.
