ABOUT WHITEFISH MONTANA
At the edge of Glacier National Park in the Northern Rocky Mountains is a vibrant town built around a shared appreciation of the wild. From the mountains rich with forests, lakes and rivers to the welcoming downtown, this is a place worth exploring and protecting for all those who love it.
Long before the first Europeans came to Whitefish, native American tribes inhabited the area, most notably the Kootenai, the Pend d’Oreille, and the Bitterroot Salish. The Kootenai lived in the area for more than 14,000 years, inhabiting the mountainous terrain west of the Continental Divide, and traveled east of the divide for occasional buffalo hunts.[7] Though trappers, traders, and waves of westward immigrants passed through the area during the second half of the century, it wasn’t until 1883 that the first permanent settler, John Morton built a cabin on the shore of Whitefish Lake, just west of the mouth of the Whitefish River. Morton was joined by the local logging industry forefathers-including the Baker and Hutchinson brothers-in the early 1890s. Logging crews “boomed-up” their logs behind a dam built at the river mouth by the Boston & Montana Commercial Company, which, when opened, created a rush of water that helped float the logs down the river to Kalispell.[
The Great Northern Railway was built through what is now Whitefish in 1904, which sparked the development of the town. Skiing has been part of the Whitefish area for more than 50 years. In 1937, the Whitefish Lake Ski Club obtained a special permit from the U.S. Forest Service enabling them to build cabins and trails in the Hell Roaring Creek region.

Tip for people going to Kalispell. Stop in at Moose's Saloon. Sawdust on the floor; throw your peanut shells there. Carve your name in the table or wall if you can find room. Some of the best pizza you'll ever have as well.

Can I suggest next time you give yourselves more time and ride up Hwy 28 to Salmon, ID and then north on 93. You actually do go right past the Yellowstone ranch.

We hoped at least one of the rigs we passed knew of 2Lane! That's awesome, hopefully your haul went well. We'll be on the road to Sturgis that week, but maybe we'll cross paths somewhere. Thanks for the support, Randy!
Kandahar Lodge, any mention of where they got the name? Thinking someone was stationed in Afghanistan as that was one of the larger bases there. Maybe I'll email them to find out. Was cool to see you roll past my town earlier in this video. Need to spend some time on my ride. I usually hit 15 to 90 and head to Billings on my way to Sturgis. Last time I came back across Wyoming, that's fun as well.
love the video... quick question... my wife rides as well and we go on great rides. it brings the relationship to another level.. I saw one of you sharing food... I wonder if the sharing concept draws some frowns :) . My wife always wants to share food with me and most of the times I do... it took me a while to stop frowning.... :D all good. great videos guys!!!
