They were good on their day but lacked consistency. When they started to look consistent, then civil war started and the country split up.

Wenn sie bei der euro 1992 dabei wären, dann wären ganz sicher Europameister geworden. Bis heute ist es so,dass wenn es eine gemeinsame jugoslawischen Mannschaft gebe,dann würden sie in fussball,vollyball, Basketball, wasserball usw.alles gewinnen. Grüße aus munich, Germany!

The winner of the football Champions League in 1991 was Yugoslav club Red Star Belgrade, and the 3 time winner of the basketball Euroleague in a ROW was Yugoslav club Jugoplastika Split in the late 80s, and then Partizan Belgrade in 1992. Meanwhile Yugoslav clubs in handball and waterpolo were winning European titles in those days too. While national teams of Yugoslavia in football, basketball, handball, waterpolo, etc. both male and female, were doing VERY good in the Olympics, World Cups and Euro Cups. It was too good to be true and of course it had to be broken down to little pieces. All the success that for example Italy or Spain had in sports last few decades, Yugoslavia could have easily done the same. Even all alone Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Montenegro, Slovenia and Macedonia achieved some great things in different sports, during the last 34 years.

Yugoslavia is a federation and as a country should have never broken up, pure and simple. It was a socialist success. A wonderful footballing nation that could have got to a World Cup Final in 1990 and definitely would have won Euro'92 only for the war.

@fabiom.4537 It was a social mess only since 1987, November 1987 to be exact, I've done a lot of research on this, Milosevic and his nationalist agenda, but also by American proxy influences such as Germany who were only too delighted in aiding and abetting the break with their old WW2 friend of Croatia. That's a fact. It could have all so easily been prevented, easily. The break up was avoidable. Look at how well it worked all along since 1945 under Tito. I guarantee you this, if Tito had been alive in 1990, when the Croatian atomomous deligation walked out on fedraruon talks, it definitely would not have broken up. Pure and simple. Sure if you say what you've just said, that it was all was down to social / racial problems, then the USA should have and still should break up. I'm not for the break up of successful countries, it never ends well.

Stoijkovic, Savicevic, Prosinecki, Katanec, Pancev... and the young Suker, Boksic, Jarni... Great 1990 World Cup Team!

With this national squad and with them, and with the players that were coming in next years, Yugoslavia would dominate world and European football for the next twenty years for sure !!! They might not always win a medal, but they would definitely be in the top three teams in the world for sure !!!

Packed with gifted players. The Red Star Belgrade side that provided so many of the national team were great to watch.

Argentina knocked out yugoslavia in 1990 and west germany beat them in group stages Red star belgrade played man utd under fergie(would of been 1991 super cup), and absolutely outplayed them in old trafford although they lost 1-0, but if there was a return match in belgrade, man utd would of been beaten easily, and fergie knew it People forget how good red star belgrade was in 1991, they just destroyed everyone they played, the technique of there players was so above everyone at the time. If Yugoslavia did not have the civil war and the country was still in tact in 1992, they would have been European champions, so I agree wholeheartedly. Although the defence might have been a bit suspect, they were loaded in defence and attack. They also had a great spread of players between the republics instead of being predominantly Serbian and/or Croatia.

Jugoslavija bi osvojila neki trofej od Svedske 1992 godine do Francuske 1998 godine. To je zemlja od 23 000 000 stanovnika .A u skoro svim sportovima ekipnim ili pojedinacnim su bili naj bolji . Kosarka ,Rukomet ,vaterpolo , odbojka pa i fudbal tad Crvena Zvezda osvaja kup samoiona . Svi su se uslovi stvorili da se i taj iskorak napravi . Ali prokleti rat.

Normalno da je bio rat kad ne damo mi Hrvati Hrvatske svoje, previse smo ponosni na nasu zemlju da je Srbima u ruke damo Hrvatska je najvise profitirala i pokazali smo svima da smo jaci samostalno Finale svjetskog 2018. Trece mjesto 1998. I 2022. Nebi bilo moguce bez rata i borbe za samostalnu drzavu Hajduk igrao cetvrtfinale lige prvaka 1995. Godine, Dinamo cetvrtfinale lige europe 2021. Pokazatelj je da sa Srbima i Bosnjacima samo smo slabiji jer svi guraju u svoju stranu

Ne bi osvojila neki, nego bi osvojila poprilično mnogo trofeja !!! Jer kada su samostalno uzele Hrvatska u fudbalu i košarci, SR Jugoslavija u košarci dominirala uprkos sankcijama, vaterpolo i rukomet da ne pominjemo nema smisla, odbojka... osvajali bi toliko da bi nam se smučilo od medalja !!! Kakve su samo generacije na ovu postojeću nadošle polovinom devedesetih u svakom sportu, bilo bi smešno sumnjati u medalju, a kada se gleda tako, onda mora da se spomene da bi uz sve te generacije i njihove uspehe, stasavali neki naredni klinci i imali na koga da se ugledaju, da im stariji prenesu znanje, ma razvaljivali bi i Evropu i svet u svakom sportu sigurno i dan danas, a garantujem da bi nam fudbalska liga bila u druga liga po jačini u Evropi, košarkaška prva sigurno, rukomet, vaterpolo i odbojka najjače definitivno i ostali sportovi u top tri 100% !!! Ali jbg.-a !!!

There were no country in history that dominated in ALL sports like Yugoslavia in late '80 ies. btw. can anyone spot any black player for France in their team 1988?. What happened in last 34 yeears. France become black country? Also World Cup 1930 Uruguay : 4th is wrong info. Yugoslavia was 3rd.
