Hello, from Japan. This game is very much popular among even Japanese football fans. The reason is that both Stojkovic and Salinas played in J League (Japanese professional football league) after J League was started in 1993 in Japan. Especially Pixy (Stojlovic) played for Nagoya Grampus for 8 years, refusing all offers from European big clubs. And he kept on playing for Nagoya until his retirement in 2001. Later, he also worked as manager of Nagoya and led the team to Japanese champion.

Yugoslavia were on the cusp of the golden era. Red Star Belgrade won the European cup in 1991, then the war and then the banning of Yugoslavia from both European championship and the 1994 World Cup.

Absolutely so true. Yugislavia were always known as the sleeping giant, Brazil of the Balkans. The problem was, they were always mentally weak, when it mattered most.

If what happened in the 90s didn’t happen, Yugoslavia would’ve had 3 Euro Cups and 2 World Cups, easily. What an amazing generation of footballers.

El primer Mundial que vi con mis 5 sentidos y con total consciencia con mis 11 añitos recién cumplidos. Recuerdos de verano viendo el Mundial de Italia 90 con un monumental dolor de muela😅 Vibrando con el 3-0 que le endosamos a Coreal del Sur, con partidazo de Míchel. El 0-0 con Uruguay... Teníamos muy buena Selección, sobre todo en el centro del campo, con Martín Vázquez y Míchel. Lástima no haber contado con un buen 9 que hubiese acompañado arriba a Butragueño. Nos faltó eso

Tenía 9 años, y me acuerdo como si fuera ayer. Que frustración, cuantas ocasiones perdidas, que suerte la del portero. La selección, mi equipo de siempre, cuanta frustración hasta aquella tanda de penaltis contra Italia en cuartos de 2008, ese día cambió por fin la historia.

Vasquez was on fire in this match. @6:25 this seems like a really foolish foul to commit; Savicevic wasn't in a goal scoring position at this point. It was a dangerous position but it wasn't certain that he would get a shooting chance. The excellent free kick was a fitting punishment for the deliberate foul :) Stoijkovic was one of those names that stuck in my head from this tournament.

Michel cobarde! Baja la cabeza cuando el balón pasa precisamente por donde él está ubicado en la falta directa y por eso consiguen el gol los yugoslavos.

Como siempre cuando una selección estaba dominada por jugadores del Madrid, el resultado era éste; falta de personalidad, escasa unión, un compromiso a veces cuestionable (véase la agachada de Míchel) egos por encima de otras cosas... y eliminaciones frente a equipos medianos.
