I’d forgotten what a tough group this was, we only tend to remember Bulgaria but that was a serious Belgium team and Scotland were more than decent too. Brilliant effort to win that group

el Uruguay de Sudafrica era bastante limitado. Eran Forlan y Suarez, Cavani se ganó un puesto corriendo y jugadores como Godín, Maxi Pereira o Muslera crecieron en ese mundial. En 2002 no había mal equipo, solo que habían algunos caciques que dividían al grupo El Uruguay del 90 tenía mas logros y experiencia que cualquiera de los 2.

Cuando eran series de 3 o 4 equipos y solo clasificaba el primero, una derrota de local ya era irrecuperable, Perú tenía un pésimo técnico, pero aún así con un equipo en recambio, afrontó, estuve en el partido contra Uruguay en Lima, erraron 2 goles que costaron el partido, desde esa derrota ya estábamos eliminados, la moral se vino abajo, Uruguay tenía estrellas y se vengó de la eliminación del 81.

I was at the Northern Ireland v England game at Windsor park. I remember it was played in heavy rain and given the result I wish id stayed at home lol but was great to see Kevin Keegan playing. Northern Ireland actually had a decent team from 1979-1986 and we ended up finishing second behind England in this group.

Whst undid Romania, was the last match v Austria in Vienna, the last hurdle, they fell at. A great pity, as they were putting up much bigger scores against a very overrated Spsin side in this qualifying campaign. Signs on, Spain had a fairly shitty Euro'88 in West Germany following this, they were lucky to get over Denmark, 3-2 in Hannover. Post Mexico' 86, Spain were not great in tournaments, Euro'88 and Italia'90 especially, always failed to deliver back in those days in the big tournaments. Romania were technically and individually far superior to Spain during this campaign. A great pity, as they would have performed much better in the Euro'88 tournament instead of Spain.

Spain always had great talents. They did not have a team untill late 2000's. Yet again there were so many great teams or players that you could not see at an European Tournament since only best eight got there in those times.

@gogonae7498 Spain were bad travellers back in the 1980s, they lost most of their matches away. Yes, thry had some great players, but we're never a great team during that decade at all, unlike other countries, who didn't have as good individuals as Spain, but those other countries had better teams than Spain.

@gogonae7498 Absolutely 💯 correct, I agree 👍 with you. I'm from Ireland. We're terrible now, we had a great team up until 30 year's ago! 1994. We had a great team in the 1980’s, but bad luck! for the most part, pressed us until Big Jack Charlton came to manage us in 1986. Things changed. Our best years was from 1988 - 1994 really
