Yu-Gi-Oh! Gaming Custom Cards #4: The Legend of Zelda (Ocarina of Time)

Ойындар

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was acclaimed as one of the greatest games of all time. Its target-lock system and context-sensitive buttons were considered highly innovative at the time of its release, and it was the first Zelda game set in a 3-D world with an expansive environment.
The Hyrule archetype attempts to be as innovative in custom card format with an Illusion Link Monster and the concept of its key Main Deck monster being treated as high as a Link-5 monster when used as material, depending on how many Hyrulean Sages are in the GY. The Sages themselves can activate their effects from the GY multiple times in a game, effectively supporting Link from behind the scenes, as they're implied to do from the game.

Honestly I think something that would be neat is a Majora’s Mask Zelda deck that’s like a fusion summoned version of Purely, you have 1 main deck monster but through use of the Masks you get in game you can “Fusion Summon” a monster, maybe returning the Masks to the deck to summon back Link. With the Boss Monster of the deck being the Fierce Deity by banishing all three masks and Link on your field and getting a supreme monster of great power. Maybe you could even have Majora’s Mask be like a Super Poly using an opponent’s monsters to summon Majora to their side of the field

Hmm... I don't know. When I was still new at making customs, I designed a Majora's Mask themed archetype that centered on Ritual Summoning the titular Mask itself. It had an effect that summoned a Moon Token, and if it or the Mask wasn't removed from the board in three of your opponent's turns, you would automatically win. Then again, you mentioned the hero's side, not the villain's side. I'll consider your suggestion.

Correction Bystials are *absolutely not a cost* to banish a monster from the GY (that would be absolutely broken instead of just really good). In fact, you can even banish the card they they target via other means (and yes they do target the card they banish) to prevent them from being Summoned altogether, something that would not be possible if their banishing were a cost

Ah, you're right! I just looked at one of them - only targeting a monster is a cost, but banishing it is part of the effect. My mistake! 😆

Making Link a Link Boss Monster? *Brilliant!* Also, curious what you plan to do with Ganon in this series. Make separate videos for him with archetypes based around the bosses of each game? Or go with the idea of Ganon being a singular entity across the franchise, with an archetype comprised of his most notable/recurring minions? Make a Ganon mega video combining every boss from every game into a Ganon super-archetype comprised of several smaller ones?! ... or, y'know; whatever floats your boat, man! :D Actually, some Zelda bosses and races could have entire archetypes of their own, come to think of it. It's definitely an idea I've toyed around with, before. Can't wait to see more, my dude!

Thanks! I haven't had any idea with how to portray Ganon(dorf) in card form yet, though he's certainly the same character across most games. Before I can even consider it, though, I would have to think just how an archetype involving him would be played. His few consistent traits are his thirst for power, his schemes for conquest, and his amusement for worthy adversaries. These traits would have to be portrayed in card form, for such an archetype to truly feel like Ganon. And I suppose the other races could be archetypes in their own right, but they would still have to be different enough to stand out from their peers (meaning Zoras would need to play differently from Atlanteans, Gorons would need to play differently from Rock Stun, etc.)

@r1991 I have one - potentially kind of lazy - idea for the different races. Why not base their archetypes around what their respective Sages in this set primarily do? Kokiri/Deku cards would be based around bouncing; Gorons would be based around monster destruction; Zora cards would be based around Effect negation; Shiekah would be based around Setting/revealing cards; Gerudo would be based around either drawing, or paying LP for benefits? Like I said, this idea is lazy at best, and potentially just flat-out not very good, but it's a thought for a basic framework, anyways. And yeah, you make a good point about Ganon. If you plan on making a full series of archetype videos, he's (very fittingly) a late-game challenge to tackle, figuring out how to potentially make other boss archetypes work for him and pave the way for his ascension, or something. Funnily enough, I was joking with a pal of mine not too long ago about how if Ganon played YGO, he'd absolutely play Eldlich; a single monster that endlessly summons thralls to assist him, while infinitely reviving and buffing himself, and busting out his Final Boss form for the endgame? Yeah, that's a Ganon-y playstyle if I've ever heard one! ... but, y'know, it already exists... soooo... :T

@@XshadOtakuX I doubt I'll get anywhere with the other races, but I'm not so sure that anything related to Eldlich could apply to Ganon. The only reason he even has legions of monsters is to fulfill his ideal world of endless strife - he doesn't really depend on them, especially as the cunning Ganondorf. In fact, his enjoyment of conflict is actually relevant in TOTK, where he actually waits patiently for Link to confront him, then states that it would be more "satisfying to overcome a worthy foe". Perhaps Ganon's summon condition could involve the opponent controlling a strong monster as a requirement..?

@@gmaster1991 The Eldlich comparison was based more on Ganon's role as an iconic endboss, a corrupting and manipulative influence, and an undying evil that won't stay down no matter how many times he's beaten. That, to me, speaks more to his status as an overarching pillar of his franchise than a one-game character trait that honestly doesn't line up too well with his other appearances. Not to say ol' Ganny *doesn't* enjoy a good 1-on-1 with a worthy opponent anywhere but TotK, but his central trait is always going to be textbook megalomania; wanting more power for the sake of wanting more power, plain and simple. If I'm not irritating you too much with all these suggestions, I had thought for how you could kind of replicate the way Ganon typically just sits and waits in his castle while you defeat all the other bosses before coming for him. The "castle," in this case, represented by your hand, with Ganondorf having an effect where he can reveal himself in the hand to cheat out a high-level monster without tributing (ergo, the "bosses" you have to beat, first; this would obviously require some kind of limitations to avoid setting up big Synchro or Xyz plays, too easily). Then, when he finally hits the field, he can Summon them all back (referencing the gauntlet of previous bosses a lot of games have), but make them all his level, so he can overlay into a Beast Ganon Xyz monster that gets stronger the more materials it has. Of course, take all this with a grain of salt, because I'm a Yugi-boomer who only re-entered the game in the last couple years, and has never even thought about playing on a truly competitive level. I'm sure anything you come up with will be ten times as good!

@@XshadOtakuX I see. Thanks for the suggestion. Of course, you and everyone else are free to leave any comments if you like. The idea of reviving all the bosses as the same level is interesting, but I've already included a Soul Charge like effect with the Hyrulean Sages.
