A March 7, 1987 concert performance of Youri Egorov playing Schumann's Bunte Blätter Op.99. This live recording captures his magnificent Schumann playing wonderfully. Egorov plays throughout with a gloriously polished sonority, a broad dynamic range, sensitive lyrical phrasing while preserving the integrity of the melodic line, and masterful pedalling.

As in his Chopin, Egourov manages to be intensely lyrical without tipping into sentimentality.. Thanks for this rarity!

A supreme example of Alec Wilder's belief that "Music can exist only if it reflects the inner life of humanity, not the outer life of its technology". Egorov played this concert thirteen months before he died in Amsterdam of AIDS.

Great musician! Subtle soul and heart. I remember how we, students of the 70s of the Kazan Conservatory, rejoiced at his success and his teacher, in my opinion Dubinina Irina Sergeevna.
Wonderful enjoying the interpretation of Jouri Egorov together with the language of the Dutch writer Jan Brokken in his book about Egorov "In the house of the poet"

Combine Schumann’s generous, naive, unfettered emotions with the technical control he disastrously tried acquiring and you have the unique playing of YourI Egorov. His idol, Richter, may have been more sovereign, Anda more elegant, Horowitz more disturbed, but Egorov - who I had the great good fortune of hearing live in New York - gave us the most natural Schumann. Try to find Elyse Mach’s interview in her collection Great Pianists Speak for Themselves. Heartbreaking to learn Egorov was so humble, and hoping for a ripening future amidst the AIDS epidemic that soon after killed him. But like Lipatti and Dino Ciani, Egorov was already mature. As always, Mark, thanks for posting.

Magnificent, I love the tempo slightly slower than Richter (my reference), specially in the fast movements. His play is so smooth, lyrical yet rigorous, a great discovery to me. Regretfully I did not know him in his lifetime...

A masterful rendition of this amazing collection of smaller works. Yegorov at his very best; this is the music that had his heart more than anything else. Richter surpassed, a rare thing in itself. If a clever sound technician were capable of erasing that utterly offensive cough at 25:04, that would take away a haunting blot on this unique recording.

He had expressive qualities similar to those of Sokolov! Listen and compare.
음악이란 무얼까. 더는 세상에 물리적으로 존재하지 않는 슈만과 유리가, 일면식 없고 언어도 다르고 어쩌면 같은 것보다 다른 게 훨씬 더 많을 나란 존재의 마음을 울린다는 게 참 많은 생각을 들게 한다. 하루에도 셀 수 없을 만치 발표되는 무수한 예술 작품들. 그러나 진심은, 진정성은, 그리고 그걸 담아내려는 각고의 시간은 별로 없다. 그리고 역설적으로 그 무수함이, 도리어 이 연주같은 희귀한 보석을 빛나게 한다. 한 사람을 구원하고, 살아가게 하는 예술. 그것은 쉽게 얻어지는 것이 결코 아니다. 시간이 말해준다. 시간이 말해줄 것이다. 지금껏 그래왔듯이.
