Schumann: Humoreske, Op. 20 (Seong-Jin Cho)
Among all Schumann's piano works, the Humoreske has a magnificent writing creativity. Each theme contrasts with the one before it, and the composition is a continual stream of fresh and varied ideas without a moment of silence. In a letter to Clara Wieck Schumann wrote that he had been “sitting at the piano and composing and writing and laughing and crying, all at the same time” speaking about his great Humoreske, we can surely find all of his emotion in this composition.
Seong-Jin Cho's playing is simple and impactful, every virtuosistic passage is played with a strong technique, and the more reflective parts have a clean and dry sound.

1:34 - 1:40 , God this broken chord is so damn beautiful
I like this work so much. With its unfinished phrases. With its ideas that follow each other in a very subjective logic of the composer and always catch me off guard.
Woaaaaaah
Genius piece and interpretation
Me gusta 😍 este canal. 🇲🇽. 🙋.
This performance can rival almost any great recording of the Humoreske: his tone is wonderfull, the counterpoint is clear and the tempos feel right. At the same time, I don't think he really breaks new ground. For me, Anderszewski is still the way to go for this work, his touch is just a tiny bit more refined and poetic and the 'hastig' section has never been played better as far as I know.
