Using a CNC actually IS woodworking. It is the mind of the woodworker, or the craftsman, that creates the project. The CNC is just a tool that facilitates completion of the project. Now, I don't particularlyt like watching videos of things created by CNC, because I want to see things that I can do, not what someone else can do with tools that I can't afford. That's the most common gripe with CNC use in video projects. Aside from that, this is brilliant work. I love what you've made.

That's how I feel too. Wood is the medium, so definitionally anyone working with wood is a wood worker. I hear you about the CNC, I try to include all sorts of different mediums and techniques in my videos so that these video are still useful for non-CNC owners. I also really like working with a CNC because I can freely and easily share my designs with other people. Entry level units that could make something like this can be had for $1000-1500, so its not like its completely out of reach for the normal person either.

that can be said for almost everything. tools are just that. using them helps to make the job faster and more accurate perhaps, maybe a bit easier. but with no underlying skills, you cannot create a good product.
That's awesome you made your design open source and linked all the products used.
some dust filters would be a nice addition to the bottom intake since it will collect all the dust and pet hair.
I have one tip, i work on big industrial cnc , and i can tell you for the next time, take the measurements direct from the old case or plastic case, like this your measures will be perfect ✌🏻
You should also make a custom controller with the same wood stain and valvet or whatever scheme, thatd be sick
Zac I absolutely love these builds and you’ve actually motivated me to make one for my PS3 Fat which includes 6 usb powered fans for the ultimate in cooling. I would love to see you make a custom case for a PS3 Fat as well.
Sign white acrylic would have worked for the side panels as well. It would have given in a nice shiny contrast to the wood and you could bond the edges together with acetone. Even some shallow CNC grooves for designs/patterns would look cool too. First time watching, love the content from a fellow T.O guy. Although I'm more GTA. 😃

There's this speaker company called Vandersteen that does linen wrapped speakers that have similar proportions to the Xbox. They used posts at the corners and wrap translucent black linen around them so you can see the inside of the speakers at the right angles. I think that would have been a nice halfway point between clear acrylic and the white linen covered sides.
Subscribed, mainly because you didn't edit out your mistakes! This helps people realize that the first time won't always be the best and to not give up! I really respect that.
This looks absolutely amazing! I wish I could have that much expensive! Also I love that kiss method! Also in your image on patreon, I thought you did the branding with a laser cutter, but I’m so surprised you did it with the CNC router! Great video and project Zac
Looks great. My only gripe with wood projects like this for electronics is the cuts out for the ports. The Sunked in ports always irrationally bother me and I don’t know why LOL
It's beautiful to look at and it goes so well with the whole esthetic of your room. If I had to do mine, I'd have to go with some charred dark wood, some dark textile and warm colored metal accents, but the design you've made is going to look good in a lot of finishes.
Zac, I love wood, although I’m not skilled to work with it as you are. Loved your furniture and wall set! You are quite the cabinetry level carpenter!

Nice job, and the nice thing is that if you don't want to void the waranty, you can always replicate this as an outer shell 👍
Awesome build!!
Just to add to the "woodworking with a CNC isn't woodworking" debate: I do feel that a lot of instructional KZreadrs often use tools that are out of the grasp of the amateur, but it's nice that you do show plenty of ways to do other projects sans expensive equipment. It is hard though, to see something made with a CNC and think "oh...well I can't make that because I don't have 1k for a CNC, or a festool (insert specific item here)". As a jeweler who does a LOT of 3D printing and casting, I do understand how nice it is to have a machine that accomplishes the creation of a said design, but it's still frustrating to see a video where in order to make the end result, you have to mortgage your house (assuming you own a home). Regardless of all that, I absolutely love what you've created, and I may have to mod my series X now :D. Cheers!
Your video might just inspire me to learn woodworking!

Awesome stuff ! I'm not a woodworking guy, but this is cool. An idea is to have a hybrid box that have both Xbox and ITX PC build for ultimate gaming station. On a side note, I opted for just using Moonlight on Xbox to stream emulated games from PC rather than the hassle to having it on the Xbox itself. Much more powerful for those PS3 games and of course Switch.
Always love your builds. I'd love to see thos side in purple acrylic! haha

What a great job. Work of art
It's super cool how Noctua make 5V fans, but there's one catch with that. USB charge support. When something's plugged in to a modern PC or an Xbox, it's always on, if it's a USB device that's not a human interface device (keyboard, mouse, webcam etc.). If it's just got power pins like a fan, it'll just be on all the time. If you look at a wiring diagram for the stock Xbox fan, if I were you, I'd splice the Noctua's fan wiring into the Xbox fan PWM so it ramps up when the top fan ramps up, and it's off when the console's off. Super cool build though! Love the dedication. 20 Minutes really makes a long build look like it takes no time to make, when I'm sure that's not true
@EXDC

Was about to say, I have the same fan plugged into the front of my system and it runs 24/7 unless you unplug it, splicing it in would be perfect for sure!
This is really cool, i cant imagen doing it myself, the only thing i think would be cool would be instead of fabric i think it would look really cool if it was see-through, something like acrylic plastic or glass with rounded edges.
In the future, if you use a flatbed scanner to scan in things--and a ruler/calibration square/etc.--that you need to get dead on in CAD, you can easily put the image in the background, scale the workspace by the ruler/calibration square/etc., then add in features where needed without having to break out your calipers. Cheers!

I was thinking this exact same thing. Using the existing case as a reference point for the ports would've saved him a LOT of headaches. There's probably even 3D models available online that he can just import straight into his modeling software.
Looks fantastic! But all the hot glue stresses me out haha. Maybe some 3D printed mounting parts and hardware would have taken too much time? Either way, great project.
All of these projects you do are awesome!! I bet your wife grips 24/7 about how this is all you do, lol. Keep up the great work. Tell her it’s for the channel!!
I don't see how anyone could argue that your not a woodworker if you use a specific machine over a bunch of other machines to achieve the same results. If you use a table saw, jointer, and sander to make your wood stuff, then your just using different equipment. Now, in relation to using hand tools, I would say that there is a great deal of skill gained in that process, and there is a wealth of enjoyment in gaining that skill. You'd be surprised at how many people love and use hand tools almost exclusively. But that is a hobby separate from mechanical design and construction, which is basically what you do with a CNC machine as well as a table saw. I love using hand tools. But at the same time, a CNC machine has such an attraction, I plan on one in the next few years.
I think a case heatsink that would make it smaller thinner will be ideal with a smaller fan.
It looks so classy, I would buy the base with a fan in a heartbeat
I love the design! But it looks like the low height of the feet could actually choke the fan and hurt the airflow. Most console designs suffer from choking fans which is one of the reasons they are getting so loud under load. Some additional spacing to raise the console should prevent that. For example some rubber feet :)
Just saw your ps2 rebuild. You are Crazy. But in a good way. I subbed to your channel, great work!
5:38 "0.15 of an inch" hits hard
Using a CNC machine is still woodworking, granted its not like running power tools with your hands but I'm sure it still takes a great deal of effort to take the measurements and think of how to design the parts and also to learn to use the computer software to transfer the designs you came up with to the computer and operate the CNC machine. Plus I'm handy and good at woodworking and building things and I think it would be fairly hard and time consuming to make pieces that small and precise with regular tools. So if you have a CNC machine that'll make the job go faster and make it easier and also help make the end product better you should absolutely use it, it makes sense to use all the tools you have at your disposal to do your work that's what they are there for!
Absolutely stunning!

To be honest. If anyone would like to recreate this but don't have a CNC. A router comes a long way as well. The CNC is a nice and easy thing to be able to use when it comes to more precise measurements. And it's more than valid to be using one if you happen to have it available. Why the hell wouldn't you? If you're a purist and think that you shouldn't be using a CNC when wood working, then all good. Perfectly valid for you to do so. But using one is just as valid. Your way is your way, doesn't mean it is the same for someone else. That's part of the beauty in wood working.

The way that he attempted to get retroarch on the Xbox was with retail mode, you are supposed to only be able to do so with dev mode but there is a group of people who take the dev mode apps and upload them to the retail mode store and allow normal people to download them and as you can figure out, Microsoft doesn't like this too much so they remove the apps and even ban the accounts from making apps, so to have it in retail mode you will need to join the discord server because that's the only way they can quickly notify you that the retail mode apps are up, there is no adfly or linkvertise links that you have to watch ads to get to the apps, it's just the best way to get the apps with Microsoft pushing hard against the apps.

Question: Could you CNC a material like HDPE (cutting board material)? It's just such a versatile material, super strong, dense, flexible, and it looks great. Especially if you get the kind that's semi-transparent. You can make it glow with LED's, so it makes for a great diffusor. I'd like to see some projects done with HDPE, wood and brass, copper or aluminum. Just as an example, you could use HDPE in place of the fabric you used here on a similar future project.

Cool project, but I'm not sure I love the linen. I appreciate that you wanted something a bit more natural/rustic looking to go with the wood, but personally I really like wood contrasted against more modern materials. Either way you did a really great job with the walnut and it's a huge improvement over the original look.

The fabric just under neath the top cover would have been appealingly better if it was folded over. As it looks to me as its fraying already on both sides of the panel.
