Since it has USB4 ports, you should make a thunderbolt eGPU enclosure with a water cooled GPU in it that supplements this mini pc. Just throwing a cool idea out there.

I think it would be nice to use brass mesh on the fan sides so that when you intake air it helps filter out the larger dust particles. It will also add a bit of class to the somewhat bland look of the hexagonal holes. Give it an "old radio" aesthetic. You could also use cloth or screen door material of you wanted a different look.

A measuring tip: get a printer scanner, lay the board horizontal (can't let it be sideways with components) and use the image as a backdrop of the design software. You can then take some reference measurements to scale the image properly and more easily sketch around stuff, measuring as you go to make sure things match. Taking a picture with a coin works well for more complicated stuff, but it's more prone to error due to angles and field of view.

Nice look, also a neat extra, with USB 4 you can use an external GPU Box and make the system even faster if you want to, pretty much turning it into a legit high end PC gaming rig. There are tons of options now for them and they work really well with the newer Ryzen APUs. And, as a bonus, if you are gonna use this portable, you can leave the external GPU attached to wherever your main Monitor is and move the rest of the machine around nearly plug and play. I agree with a lot of the posters too, grab Big Box, the paid version of Launch box. It's worth the small amount paid and gives you even more flexibility.

Love the video, my only complaint is that the minisforum um690 is almost $715 USD. At that price point, you can probably build an itx pc and go from there. Sure, this already has the “parts” put together, but it’s just a lot for a “DIY” build. Love the wood working elements. Might try that part on an itx board and an off the shelf agpu

I love this design! There is only one small thing I would personally do and that's take some 3/8"x3/8" (or smaller) long square stock and cut a rabbet in it. Cut those pieces to length and fit them in to make corner trim covers for the acrylic joint. This way it will hide the glue joints and help "box" it in. Wouldn't be that much more effort and I think would make the concept look much better. You could even use a different wood to add some contrast. Maybe sapele, rosewood or bloodwood? Also what did you do about the other buttons on the system? Also was it ever considered during planning to drill bigger holes for the mb mounting supports to fit it in rather than cutting the corners?

Nice build, Zac! This is probably going to be lost or not read, but is there any reason you didn't use the original case to use for measurements? • @YellowBear592

I was just gonna post this, additionally, if pencil would be too much time, you could also use spray paint for a better contrast. Then, to get those measurements digitally, scan that stencil from a printer or phone, then, convert that into a real measurement based off of th scan size.

Cool build, Zac! I love this everything console series. I think the integration of walnut adds a lot of aesthetic to the computer. Just a small gripe I had is that Moore's Law is actually dead. We can no longer double the number of transistors on a chip every two years due to physical limitations. The transistors are giving more issues than solutions when you shrink them down past a certain size. The technology is there to make them smaller, but due to a little thing called Quantum Physics you can't get a good transistor. Fortunately, people are researching ways of overcoming physics with molecular electronics (one example) being proposed as an alternative. Essentially, molecules (much much smaller than the smallest transistor currently) can be used as transistors. Currently, there is no real success in this venture apart from a select few molecules. I apologise for this little rant. I did my PhD in nanochemistry and know several researchers doing molecular electronic research. So, everytime I hear about Moore's Law I pay closer attention. (I know this is a me problem) I know this was also at the very beginning of the video and I know you jokingly said it too. I did watch through to the end and very much enjoyed the build and your design process.

  • @ZacBuilds

    @ZacBuilds

    Жыл бұрын

Oh don't worry, I 100% agree with you. Moores law is dead and I say it to people all the time. The exponential growth of technology through the 80s 90s and early 2000s is a thing of the past and I'm sad to see it go. I remember being a kid and having a computer that was 2 years old was basically a relic. These days a 5 year old computer is still serviceable. As you said were running up against the limits of physics. I was just being silly and joking around in the intro

I really like the content you make too and appreciate the less click-batey titles when compared to Eric's recent trend. (I know KZread and the algorithm rewards click-bate)

Might I suggest if you like launch box, you should consider upgrading to big box.

Why did you cut ventilation holes in the acrylic if you had a push-pull fan system?

I'd really recommend an emulation focused linux distro as there are a few out there that offer a launchbox like Ui except that they're completely navigatable with a controller and would give a much more Console-Like experience especially for couch gaming.

Nice. For the price (£350~ in the UK) its pretty good. Though if you're willing to spend more (£489~ in the UK) for the UM790pro the improvement in performance will be pretty noticable. Plenty of these sorts of devices around though using the AMD 6000 series laptop chips at varying price points.

Why didn't you just drill holes in the side tab of the fan which would have allowed the fan to slide over the standoff pins instead of cutting

Protip: anything that's flat you can drop in a flatbed scanner to use as a reference to place holes very accurately. Could have made more form-fitting port holes if you can keep the board propped up on a scanner long enough Works well with 3D printed parts but probably better not to cut the wood down super thin to get proper clearance on the plugs, and definitely better not to countersink acrylic that thin.

I really love this project! You did an amazing job🎉🎉🎉 I’ve been kinda trying to reverse engineer something like this myself (for more than just games; movies, music, comics, a true All-in-One machine) so this really inspires a lot of my ideas and where to set the scope. That said, I also feel like ‘Everything Console’ is a bit too obvious of a name. If this were my project, I’d try to go with something that would still emphasize the nearly infinite nature of the product: Juggernaut, Magnificence, Menagerie, Zenith, Paragon-I feel like I’m overshooting it, but something along those lines to give it a real punch that makes it seem like the best there is.

Multi-player works great, I've had some great mario kart sessions with friends haha. You just connect 4 controllers via Bluetooth or USB and the emulators usually pick them up right away and it's good to go

If Launch box ever gives you problems or you want to make it more of a console experience theirs a program called steam ROM manager you can set it up to add all your roms emulators and all that to your steam library and the you can use steam big picture mode and you can also set steam big picture mode to launch on startup its a bit more complicated to setup but was well worth it for me

Super awesome idea & i love the hamburger/oreo/klondike bar meets star wars design with them components sandwiched inbetween a minimalist wood (seldomly used however totally underrated nonetheless pc/gaming aesthetic, also I think, & not sure if u have one or have done it, but you can get/build a totally awesome wood mechanical keyboard or keycap set to pair with it, can even design/cnc ur own board case/shell with same stain as the mini & maybe lighter woodgrain keycap set for a 2-tone wood aesthetic which would be make it pop & take it to another level). Do you not feel you lose a bit of graphics power/performance going with the igpu (or I think amd likes to use "apu" for their cpu/igpu/cache single-dye configurations but w/e) in this latest build instead of the (i think if memory serves) 1070(?) GPU from the Strix laptop build from the Mk2? I know it was only a 10xx series & mobile but surely it performed at least marginally better than a ryzen integrated setup. Perhaps with emulation its not really needed? Altho with that Ryzen CPU it would be all but criminal not to have a decent gpu so it can handle (on the PC side) recent titles at least solidly for 1080p baseline. With that Usb/Thunderbolt 4 you can probably build a Sweet small ff e-gpu to pair it with & again, add to the same wood aesthetic. I think Mnisforum makes some Ryzen setups with a 6600m in virtually same dimensions/form factor in their higher tiered Mini Pc lineup so thats always an option too if you don't like the idea of an eGPU. Either way, as a retro first type of dude this is awesome as is & u did a great job. Keep it up this channel should have alot bigger following than it already does
