Your Tactic Needs These 5 Things

Ойын-сауық

Look, you can win in Football Manager A LOT of different ways. Tactics combined with the right player attributes can make almost anything possible. But, as an FM tactic guide, especially for those looking for early tactic creation guidance, these five recommendations are things that will make your life MUCH easier. These tactic principles will simply increase your likelihood of creating a winning tactic. I would also recommend checking out the website FMBase for their in-depth tactics section that runs intense tests on different tactical principles.
RDF tactics was kind enough to join for this follow-up to our original video. We had always planned this, but it was quite a challenge to not just say the counter of what we said in the ‘what not to do tactically’ video. We came up with five new ideas to make sure you have in your tactic to keep your head above water. I also am starting to feel very tactically confident in FM22 which is a great feeling. I look forward to making more FM tactic videos soon.
Much Love,
FM Senpai

This is the first FM where I decided I'd create my own tactic from scratch and just go with it (it usually never works) and these videos have been a big help! I now play my own version of a 343 with one of my wide players as an advanced playmaker, he seems to create so many chances and having my wing back stay super wide he always has so much space to run into! I'm trying to win the Seria A with Sampdoria so these videos are a great help!

My main grip with FM is that all of these suggestions (even the ones in the first video) should be player/team specific but yet it's an all-size-fits-all. Every team no matter the talent level will have good results using these instructions. For example, passing into space with a team that's not good at passing should result in very inaccurate passing but in the current state of the game, you'll be lucky to have a game where your passing % is under 80%...

They literally said in the video that these aren't 100%........FM is a highly situational game, with thousands of outcomes, if youre only allowed to talk about tactics that are 100%, youd make zero content. Most people should be intelligent enough to know nuance and actually watch the video, so when they hear "if you dont have pace, you dont want to pass into space" the lightbulb in their brain might go off as to when they should apply this tactic. Maybe you just missed that bus.

A world class collaboration! Great video. I have been rather concerned about the use of Counter press and higher level of triggers as I had heard it wears the players out. So, when I do use it, I do have it on for about 60 minutes then turn it off. But there have been games when I wasn't getting the break-through and kept it on longer, but that is probably a problem with the tactic itself. I wonder if it would be possible for you both to stream a match where one uses a tactic that has all the bad parts in, and the other uses a tactic with the good stuff in. Mind you, it could be a bit like Burnley v Man City.

Personally i use often pressing, without counter-pressing(but without regroup) and standard or slighlt lower pressure line and it works pretty well. But i play pretty middle oriented tactic, 4-3-1-2 with wide midfielders and inverted wing backs and we play more narrow so naturally we have many players in the middle so we don't need to pressure oponnent so much - much better works for us if we keep our lines more cloesely to each other.

I feel like pass into space only generally works against weaker teams and can give the ball away a lot depending on the opponent's formation. Like I'll never use pass into space against a 3-5-2 formation or 4-3-3 DM holding formation. I find what works best is to have a CAM and a CM with good passing and the trait try killer balls often so they'll decide when to play that deadly through ball into space on the counter.

Can we get tactics that are flexible next? Like work into the box. Find pass into space a bit iffy, even will every advantage slow defenders, fast forwards, great cohesion its far from guaranteed. Find regroup more useful against the bigger overpowered teams than counter press. Don't like extreme pressing but seems to be working better than lowering it down a notch

I'm sadly a lowly console scrub atm and that in itself is frustrating as you can't load the whole game (even though the hardware would run it well enough you can only load 10 leagues, and I honestly wouldn't even mind some extended loading times for the ability to scout Africa and some other regions properly). Aside from that there's none of the training/team meeting/hierarchy options and that hugely limits your ability to train your youth into anything meaningful or create the cohesion or tactical understanding you'd like. I still enjoy the game but I'm going to have to invest in a pc to get the full experience and that sucks. ETA; I saw RDF in the first installment of this and went off to check out his content and loved it - really insightful tactical thinking and planning.

@@rayeardley7618 my wife was pleased hearing this since she is a KV Mechelen fan. Im near the end in my first season with 9th tier Malvern Town FC. In the beginning of the season bookies said we would finnish 16th. All season long we are in the top 4 now if you click on pre season predictions it changed to 5th. We are third now, we play the Hellenic League Cup Final and we got knocked out in the quarter final of the FA Vase by Bury AFC. I constantly get questions about why do you play park the bus (which we do not do) or why I choose for Gegenpress (also a system I do not play). :D

Aw kudos to your wife! I chose them because I wanted something different and have fond memories of a Championship Manager save I had with them in the late 90s... xD I wasn't prepared for the outstanding loans the club has at the start of the game - £36m total, £24m+ outstanding at a repayment of £1.1m per month! o.o' I had to get creative with freebies and loans but they honestly had a pretty good squad to work with at the club and were predicted to finish 8th with a board objective top half finish. We were grinding wins all season one game at a time and before I knew it we had thrown away a 15pt lead to just 5pts by the split and just got the first one over the line. Champions League group qualification second season made all the difference to build with and I brought Matías Arezo in for a cheap boost of huge value goals. It sounds like SI have done a strange job of making the very stupid staff at grassroots level making mistakes and failing to recognise your tactics etc much like a player at that level wouldn't be able to carry out too many instructions well.

@@rayeardley7618 I had no players in the beginning of the season. Did loads of 2 week trials and got some players in like that + 6 loan players. Thanks to the good cup runs we managed to make a profit on our balance when they predicted a 20K loss. I probably have to sign a complete new squad for the next season and I only have 1 Assistant manager and a gk coach. The rest I have nothing.

On the playing wide tactic point, my go to tactic has very narrow setting with inverted wingbacks and inverted wingers, it’s a 4333 with two mezzalas so there’s an element of width there but aggressively narrow can completely overload the AI in the middle and cause a bit of mayhem

what if I play UK tier 6 and use a relegation team? I don't have players with high stats. Will these tactics still work?

The higher line and pressing basically works for any team if your tactic is well disposed. The reason it works is that if you are a worse team your chance of scoring from regular play is really low, but if you manage to dispossess to opponent high up you have a chance for a fast counter while they are out of position. And once you get a goal morale usually goes up making your players do better on the pitch. I wouldn't try to pass into space too much if your team is way slower than the rest of the league. Go to Squad>Assistant report and check how your team compares to the rest of the league and go from there. But if you are playing 6th division its really easy to sign players for free that are good enough to win you promotion. Just go to Scouting>Players>Player search and add condition Contract status Expired. Click the check box Interested in transfer and sort by WR (world reputation). Now go through the top 30 players and ask them to join you for trial for 2 weeks. Once they arrive at your training facility you get basic scouting information on them and keep getting more through their trial. You can terminate any trial that you find too bad once you start seeing their stars and stats. Those that are good enough you sign permanently. You'll get loads of 3-5 star players this way and even young talent that you can keep with you all the way to Division 3-4. For example Dylan Thompsson is usually a solid CB that keeps developing all the way to division 3-4 and he should be without contract if you have a new save. Solid signing for Div 6.

@@joeltarnabene5026 I figured that 433 dm control possession is a good way to go with low Stat players. Works also with 3 dm instead of 4 Def players.

@@freddykabuffke461 Yea, control possesion is pretty solid. Probably the easiest tactic to get right. Especially since it lets your low stamina players catch their breath while in possession. A high tempo game with high pressing will wear down lower league players otherwise.

Every time I play someone with a 12 in passing - they better cover ground because they are giving away turnovers :( Maybe in the Prem, it's more like 14 or 15. 12 passing? I just see them kick the ball right to the defender 10 feet in front of them.

I love the video, it seems they have very good knowledge of the abilities needed to play gegenpress only. I'll have to say that there are no general abilities you should have for all tactics. There are general abilities you should have for a tactic. Note: "all tactics" and "a tactic" are not the same. The players you have dictates the most effective tactics for the team.
