For Occy- Oxford would be a unique name and he could go by occy when young, Ford when he’s old or his full name!

i love Oxford! Using the ox sound is brilliant and made me think of names like Maddox, Knox, Lennox and Fox. my other idea was Oscar?? Hawkley? Oakley? Oakland? Hawken? or maybe even a not-so-subtle nod to the former potus and go with Barrack??

For Occy, you just need a name that has an "ock" sound somewhere in it. That opens up the options, and makes for a more clever use of the nickname. Brock Lachlan Rocco Harlock/Havelock Locke Braddoc Enoch

Teacher: Blythe for a girl..it was one of my fave girl names. It's very vintage but super pretty and very underused (to my knowledge). Everyone has heard of it but don't know many/anyone with that name. For a boy, what about Gilbert (nicknames could be Gil or Bertie). Again, not very well used but it's cute and he is a romantic hero in Anne of Green Gables. (I'm also aware that my suggestions make the whole name of Gilbert Blythe but there you go!)

My name is not vintage, but it is rare. Dovalyn pronounced "Dah-vuh-lyn". My mom went to highschool with a Dovalyn and thought it was pretty. I talked to a geneologist and they said is has Gaelic and Latin roots meaning "from the valley", though I don't know how accurate this is. I know of one other (we met on Facebook) and her's was a merge of Doug, Valerie, and Gwendolyn from her parents and grandmother. (All 3 of us are in America.) I get complimented on it all the time and it is phonetic, so most people don't mess it up once they see it written down. I love your lists!

Hi SJ! I absolutely love your new podcast, I’m so glad you decided to do one, and the discourse between you and your sister is so fun. My husband and I have pretty unique taste in names which has been our first struggle. We like soft names for both genders with all kinds of origins, but all of them sort of have an underlying Spanish, bohemian vibe. Our favourite names right now are Odeya, Sola, August, Leighton and Cleo. Our biggest struggle though is that we have lost four pregnancies and given names to all four of those babies, so we’ve already used up the majority of our favourites. I’d like names to have some special meaning for our rainbow, but nothing super obvious for a rainbow baby like iris. My husband isn’t religious so names with god in the meaning are OK but not perfect. I’d love for a name to have sun/sunshine in the meaning somewhere as an honorary name for my grandma, whose maiden name is beausoleil, but my main issue is that if we use Sola as a sibling most names meaning sunshine have “sol” somewhere in it and it becomes too matchy matchy. Please help us find something we can add to our list that could be “the one”. Love your channel! Thanks, Brenna

Vintage: Boy: Lankford (formal surname) Girl: Zipporah (biblical + vintage.) 4th Child: Lainey (cute + flows with other names) Thea's Brother: Derrick Ellis (keeps the D from Dylan + flows with Thea) Occy: Thaddoc (combo of Maddoc with Thaddeus) Italian: Teo (short for Matteo + similar to Theo) Emmanuelle: its so cute and go with it. They are both biblical. Both are tomboyish as mostly used by boys. Its so cute. I love Ethyn & Anthony for girls.

You’ve been mentioning Vera a lot- in Germany „Verena“ is relatively common. I checked the English statistics site and it is not in the top 100. so maybe this would also be an interesting option for some people. Katie: how about Iris? Occy: how about Okra like the flower? You could do a big reach from caspian to occy. Or maybe just ocean seeing how you are such big surfers? Although I’m not sure if that ties into the wish for a more sophisticated adult name. I came across the name „onda“ (Italian for wave) and got really excited but sadly it’s for girls.

For Occy, maybe you could go with something that has OC in it, but doesn’t necessarily start with those letters. For example, Rockford, Lochlan, Brock, or Maddock.

When you say that you'll never regret using a name you love, but you'll regret letting a name go, you're completely right! My husband and I just got a new puppy. We want to use family names, and my husband's family has a lot of odd and interesting ones due to his Romani heritage. We ended up choosing the name Joiner, which was a nickname of one of his ancestors (who, oddly, was a blacksmith). Nobody likes the name but us, but we have never regretted it!

For the nn Occy: I think Enoch could be a cool choice. It's Hebrew which is in style right now and means dedicated. Could also work for Joaquin which I've never been able to find a good short form for. Ocaso is the Spanish word for sunset/twilight although I don't know if that'd be a little too word-y sounding to Spanish speakers.

I just adopted my first cat today (of my own as an adult). He’s hiding under the bed just as expected. His shelter name was Cheddar which is cute but I didn’t think it fit him. I’ve renamed him Knut! It’s a nod to my Norwegian heritage (my grandma), and it can be shorted to Newt which I think is adorable.

For the “brother for Thea”: Dell, Cole, or Tate. Like SJ said about Tristan, with Tate you have the same first initial as Thea but it’s pronounced as a hard T so not too matchy. I love Noah and Emmanuelle as sisters! 2 masculine names (I am used to hearing Emanuel as a boy’s name) I definitely think that parents know best when it comes to their kids’ names, not grandparents or anyone else. Go for Emmanuelle! So pretty and unique! 💛💛
