    Hohoho Merry PINNED COMMENT! This might be the video where we hit 100k everyone, very excited! Thanks of course for stopping by/ being here once again! Had a lot of fun making this one, really wasnt planning on it tbh, but the movie was extremely compelling and after i finished watching it i felt the drive to write immediately. Its nice to be able to take a step back, talk about some Japanese culture and life stuff and just focus on a single small piece of media. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! We actually watched this with our patrons this week so if that interests you consider signing up! You also get 15% off that merch i mentioned that way as well so, not a bad deaaallll. (Jus saiyan) Anyway, Happy Holidays everyone! We should have one more video for you before the year is out, would love to see you there! -Mike

    Your an amazing writer and this video was great! I wish I could convey my feelings and thoughts so clearly! Also "Weathering with you" is pretty good to, but maybe wait a bit to watch that one. I've seen some people compairing the two and feeling disappointed that it's just more of the same, But I think it stands on it's own pretty well.

    I find it kinda funny that we took entirely different things from this movie, were you saw the relation to nature and the kami I saw the changing of fate and the refusal of destiny and I find that really cool.

    So, I'm in a weird place with this movie... I was in the deepest depression of my life after my father died, and only watched a few anime here and there, but never really got into it. I had not been able to cry, or really emote at all for months... my wife was getting fed up with me... I had thoughts of suicide... My wife told me I was a shell, and did not have the life and joy that I had used to. However, my entire life changed when I saw "your name." The body swapping actually brought me to it... but what kept me invested was the heart and soul of it. It was the first time I cried in months, and the tears that came wouldn't stop. That was a little over two years ago, and I've watched this movie probably an unhealthy number of times.. I've since become a weeb, and watch quite a lot of seasonal anime along with catching up on classics. But yeah... this movie saved my marriage, and probably saved my life as well. I'm glad you liked it enough to do a video... and I'm grateful to your friend for forcing you to watch it.

Was rooting for both the protagonists and grow to care about them. At first, everything was happy-go-lucky, comedy and then took a dark turn. Mitsuha's death and destruction of the village took by surprise and shook me to the core.

    Honestly, for a Shinkai film i feel like it wraps up pretty nicely. If you've seen his other works you know what i mean. I feel like the original ending would have been Taki and Mitsuha passing eachother at that snowy night on the pedestrian bridge, not know eachother but having that gnawing feeling while their distance from another grows bigger and bigger...

  • @julianriel926

    @julianriel926

    Even without Shinkai confirmation that they get together, the whole movie is pointing in that direction. The idea of musubi is that they are bound together by fate, that they are destined to be together. They were presented with that opportunity multiple times, but before that final scene didn’t have the courage to stop each other and ask what is your name. But, finally they did. It’s a beautiful movie about actively finding your destiny.

    Your Name was definitely a special movie and I understand why it was such a blowout smash hit. Incredibly captivating animation, intriguing concepts, a uniquely humorous “oh so Japanese!” tone, and emotionally provoking writing overall. Your Name didn’t hit me as profoundly on an emotional level like A Silent Voice did, but damn was this a good movie! I really hope that Makoto Shinkai releases a director’s cut someday that fleshes out characters and plot points that were left totally unresolved by the end of the movie. That would literally make Your Name the perfect movie for me. 👌🏽

    wow this gave me a way greater appreciation for this film, i guess i watched it in a time i was stuck and didnt think about moving forward, i had the same experience with a silent voice, the first time i watched it i thought "that was good" and never any deeper. but once i came to realize that i was in a state without any change, stuck to my past in an attempt to forget it, that i randomly decided to rewatch a silent voice, and it changed my life, i realized that i was almost exactly like shoya was at the start of that film, and seeing him change made me realize what i needed to change, which was trust, or faith in others, or love for others, and not just in a romantic way, but a love like that of brothers, and i now have it, and ive become a much happier and better person for it

    When I first heard the story for the movie I fell in love with it and then when I saw it in theaters I became obsessed with it. The message The Love Story everything about is amazing. And the way you sum it up is the perfect summary I could think of. Now I know you were asking for movie recommendations and there's one that really didn't get a lot of love when it was released here in the US it was only for a short period of time but could you review or look into amazing movie that came out last year called "I want to eat your pancreas". There's a light novel in a manga as well and a live-action I haven't seen it I heard it was okay but the movie is amazing. It legitimately asked the question what would you do if you knew you were dying. I highly recommend you try it out when you get a chance and it would be amazing to see if you could do a review or your take on the message.

    Weird coincidence that you made this video after I finally saw the movie for the first time. Mitsuha has the same voice as Sailor Moon and Ilyasviel von Einsbern.

    This was a beautiful movie that I was fortunate enough to see it at Anime Expo as a world Premiere event. He was there, and walked down the aisles of the viewing room, and you could see him enjoy that people got emotional and really into his movie.

    I never noticed that the kuchikamizake was half of Taki, great touch. I was to focus on the threads and how fate is unavoidable but gives you plenty of chances to arrange it’s threads in your favor. Holds a special place with me I guess. I loved the ending as well. Great video man, this’ll be like the 6th thing you’ve made me go through a re-watch of :) I’d love to see a video on “The Garden of Words”

    The part where you talk about Taki and Mitsuha's losing memories on top of the mountain is the perfect way of saying it from all of the other videos ( and 1 video has talked about this I think), something has to be sacrificed leaving the mountain, because of the area's ability to transcend logic and natural conditions of space and time.

    An interesting to note at around 9:55: In the background, the clouds are covering the second meteor whole, so it's like they're standing in an instance where the second meteor whole did but didn't happen, a bit like the idea of schrodinger's cat. Alive and not alive, possible but not possible. It's an interesting detail to notice, because as soon as the clouds part again and the lake becomes visible, Mitsuha disappears from the screen.

    I'm so late, but I'm glad this passed by my recommended. And yes, I do agree with your claim that the people who live uncomplicated lives are the happiest, and that most of them are somehow connected to nature in some way. Life back then is so, so simple, while the world today is complex and difficult to live in. And usually, the city folks are the most likely to be cynical, pessimistic, and a lot more depressed or more likely to be depressed. I enjoyed this video a lot.

    OMG! OMG! OMG! FUCKING LOVE THIS MOVIE! Your analysis I feel was a very valid point of view and opinion. I love how you try to put a philosophic view in all your vids. There's just so much going on in this vid loved the whole thing. The longing for something part and how when you slow down your life you seem more at peace. So often we do get caught up with keeping up with the Jones that we can lose ourselves and forget that we're all connected. Ah! Fucking good vid so many good points
