Nothing feels better than being able to click on Sages Rain video without any clue about the anime, show, or movie and still being enlightened and connected to the characters.

The structure of this film is outstanding. The shift from the lighter, more comedic first third is so well-done and organic. It transitions into being this grandiose disaster narrative, which shouldn't work, but it does because everything has been set up. When we discover how the gap between them is temporal as well as physical, it's surprising, and it intensifies the narrative, but all the clues were there, especially Taki seeing the comet at the start of the film. The first section of the film is about them growing from hating the connection they share to treasuring each other, which makes it heartbreaking when that connection is shattered. When they finally see each other at twilight, even the shot selection indicates how tenuous the moment is. There are few shots of them together, and those we do get are absolutely cathartic. This is, in the end, a film about a connection between two people being strong enough to overcome space and time, which sounds sappy, but the film earns that idea, especially because the body-switching, a comedic idea repurposed for high drama, allows them to know each other completely. This is one of those rare films that absolutely earns a happy ending.

@@AlphaTSH I personally don't think identity would be an idea. for me it is more of a discovery over time. like sharpening something takes time but in the end, when it is fully sharpened it is useful. we grow everyday in anything we do so identity is a development, not and idea.

Getting reminded of this movie is such a blessing, but also a painful memory. I first watched it during new years between 2016 and 2017, sitting up waiting for my brother to call, which he never did. I really love this movie, not only for the story, but for the memories.Thank you Sage for another amazing video!

Before I watched this movie I was never introduced to anime and considered it just a "Cartoon" so I was like "meh! Might not be as bad as it seems considering it gained popularity worldwide" So I took the decision to watch it And IT opened the door to a universe of depth, vibrance, beauty and love that I've failed to see all those years. *Best decision I've EVER made * Makoto Shinkai is a freaking LEGEND!
