I agree with you. I used to be motivated and then I got COVID. The 14 days of being totally alone broke my spirit and now I have no desire or drive to do much of anything. COVID showed me how it didn’t matter what might happen tomorrow, that no one cares. It showed me that the people I cared about did not care about me. It showed me that being fired would not be the worst thing. It showed me how crazy people are. It created a deep depression in a person who always had the sunniest outlook about everyone and everything. No I don’t really care if I get fired. I don’t care what anyone thinks of me. I don’t care about material things or tv or movies or celebrities or status. None of it means a damn thing.

Laziness and boredom are luxury products born from human societal development There is less and less need to survive (not all countries by a long shot but take the first world ones for instance) which has pros and cons as we can focus on living and quality of life etc So it would make sense that we as species are getting dulled over time as we progress and automate Look at how many obese people there are for instance in first world countries Am very glad about things like electricity and sewage, tapwater, central heating etc but there is lessening need for survival/insert some obligation or goal one has Like procrastinating even though you have to graduate college, just a random example
