Hi I've been on tretinoin for a year (currently 0.05%) every second night - I alternate with azelaic acid. I have rosacea and eczema prone mature/menopausal skin and have really seen a big difference. My skin is thicker, firmer and the cushion has returned. I skip it during a flare, but due to the strengthening effect of the tretinoin I have less flares anyway. I used retinols for a year prior to starting tretinoin and built my tolerance slowly/carefully. Tretinoin can have a lot of benefits in rosacea prone skin, but it is a slow process to get accustomed to it due to the extreme sensitivity we suffer from. it's worth it though and i would recommend it if you're able to tolerate it. Both rosacea and eczema flare and calm on an ongoing basis - both are chronic conditions. During the calmer times is when it is possible to build tolerance, but slowly and paying attention to how your skin reacts. My neck does not tolerate tretinoin so I use a retinol there and always buffer both with a moisturiser. Despite this i have seen real results although you need to be patient. It really took 4 - 6 months before I noticed a big difference, but the results have improved even more. Best wishes.

With only two UV filters, I don't believe that the Hyggee sunscreen is strong enough to protect our Tret-skin from the damage of the sun. It might be a nice one for indoor activitives or a nice moisturizer with UV filters inside just like a lot of Korean sunscreens on the market. If you're using Tret, please stick with hard core sunscreens for better protection.

This is an awesome video! I’ve been using OTC adapalene, and feeling frustrated at how much “tret face” that gave me, even though it’s not even a prescription tretinoin! 😩 About two weeks ago though, I tried layering it between two “moisture” steps, after my Krave Great Barrier Relief serum and before my Barr Centella Calming Barrier Cream- and that has been the most effective protection for me. I feel like I can finally move up from only using tret every 7-10 days, which I think will be really helpful. I am definitely going to get more serious about my hydrating toner though (that’s the #1 thing I’ve learned from you haha) and try more products with propolis, because that seems to be the ingredient I’m sleeping on! Thanks Kelly!

I have rewatched this video 3 times😂😂😂I have been on and off tretinoin as I tried to get it to work 3-4 times in the past but couldn’t get through the irritation. I am finally on month 4 of .025% tretinoin if only I had this video and recommendations earlier!! You’re amazing🤗🙌almost all of these tips I have had to incorperate through trial and error to get past the adjustment phase. Amazing advice for newcomers to tretinoin. Also “tret face” is sooo funny hahaha. I’m so excited for these product recommendations!! I am definitely going to try that honey mask. Also after going on tretinoin I can only use cream products for my makeup, never thought I would be a cream blush lover!

Thanks for covering how and when to use retinol and other actives, Kelly. When I started, I did it all wrong, and ended up with infections from the worst eczema flare I've ever had. I was using prescription Differin and applied way too much on wet skin, right after using a spin brush with an exfoliating cleanser ... day and night! 😲 I should have read the insert. It took me forever to figure out what worked for my super sensitive, dry, dehydrated, eczema prone skin, with many, MANY fails (which is why I have a basket of rescue and skin barrier repair items 🤣). But I learned what to use and when from amazingly helpful people like you, Dr. Dray, Alice in the rabbit Hole, No BS Beauty and James Welsh, so thank you! 😙❤👍 I like to use AHAs and Vitamin C in the morning and my prescription .3% retinol at night, but use an OTC retinol (encapsulated) serum and cream as well. I actually just wrote out my current skincare routines and realized they sound crazy, even for a long K Beauty routine. But, my skin is like a sponge, especially in the colder weather here in 🇨🇦 Canada, so I need many layers of moisture and hydration. After I wash my face at night, it air dries so fast I have to carry a bottle of hydrating toner to spritz it as I walk into the room I do my skincare! 🤣 You're so right about hydrating before (and after In some cases) applying retinol, and skin barrier strengthening and soothing items really do help with toleration and are an absolute necessity for me!

Cynthia Lopez I actually prefer the Curology. My formula contains niacinamide and tranexamic acid, which had enabled me to eliminate other serums. This is exactly what I’ve been waiting to see from You! I just switched from regular Tret .05 cream to curology with .05 tret, 4% niacinamide and 5% azelaic acid and I don’t know if I’m purging but I think I’m getting more small Bumps? I figured the curology base formula would suit my acne prone skin better but it’s still been a week and my skin may adjust. I’m 35 and over having acne lol. I’m just noticing my dark spots stick around longer which is weird. My skin isn’t sensitive but it just gets clogged up and each clogged pores leaves a dark mark so it’s very very annoying. Please continue to update us with your routine and products alongside Tretinoin! Also I’m very close to buying the Benton snail bee serum for that hyperpigmentation from old spots. But I can’t risk anything clogging my pores and causing more bumps. Ugh. Would you still recommend that as a morning serum while on Tretinoin for hyperpigmentation?

That can be the case, but some people just doesn't have any bad reaction from using retinol, after all retinol has to go through two steps before being active in your skin so it's a lot gentler than a prescription strength tret

Thank you for this video! Omg! I've restarted my tretinoin journey after a while and I had forgotten how bad the side effects are. I had first put it on in the beginning of my routine and the next day, it was bad. My skin was extremely irritated and anything I put on it burned and stung and was really red. My friend suggested to mix it in with my moisturizer and that's what I've been doing. But with that I also need to be careful because I had dotted tretinoin on parts of my face and did the same with my moisturizer and found that method to be too much for my skin. So I think mixing prior to application is the way to go. My skin is peeling though and I've been curious about the liquid gold and the rewind. I already have rosehip oil and I'm pretty sure that's a good one, right? What are your thoughts on the rewind while on tretinoin?

Hi, Kelly! You are right that now it’s perfect time to start tretinoin. I’ve started 5 months ago and what can I say, it was a journey 🙈 I was purging like crazy, but it definitely worth it! My skin’s never been better and it’s just the beginning 😊 now I’m using 0,05 % every night) For everyone who’s still thinking, give it a try, start slow and follow all Kelly’s tips 🙂 you won’t regret!

Rajam Joshi I’m using it not for clearing purposes, more for anti-aging! And I guess yes, this is the way to get anti-aging benefits, if you stop, your skin would start behaving like normal. They say that after you see good results, you can reduce the amount of days of application or even move to more gentle retinol!

I have a question...I love the Missha Artemisia Essence, however I just purchased the Artemisia cleansing water. I would assume it would not be a micellar water, I would check the ingredients to see if there are any that have cleansing abilities. And as a toner I'd just say place it from thinest to thickest.

I haven't quite finished the video yet, but it looks like you're doing your entire routine BEFORE putting on your tretinoin. My curology prescription for tretinoin should be here tomorrow and I'm super excited ! I got it because of the great things it's done to your skin. But I've been watching other KZread videos on what to expect with retinols, and alot of people said you should put your Tret on right after cleansing BEFORE any other products that way it really penetrates without any barriers holding it up. Have you heard of that before? So now I'm confused as to where to add it in to my nighttime routine. However, mine is coming with Azelaic acid, ceramindes, niacinamide and tranexamic acid, so I'm not sure how that allows me to use my Tret before anything else, being as it's all mixed together as one product.

Not sure if you got any response. If you ever watched Dr Dray, a dermatologist, she explains that if your skin is sensitive or irritated it’s a good idea to put it after or mix it with moisturizer. She actually doesn’t recommend to put it on damp skin. It really depends on how you skin reacts.

I need help !! I’ve been on .05% tret for 15 or so weeks and I can’t get passed the peeling/dry dry dry skin... primarily on my chin/around my mouth. Nowhere else has really peeled except for around the 11s nothing like chin area. I was able to get up to four nights a week but have dropped back to three as the peeling is getting outta control. I’m laying on the big three Kelly mentions and use a lot of the same products, but nothing is really sorting it out. Thank god for lockdown I couldn’t risk going out in public as the peeling hits during the day like I don’t wake up with it. Makeup makes it worse too... but I try to avoid the trouble spots and really don’t wear a lot of that these days anyway. Begging for help tips tricks anything. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻Thank you so much too Kelly god only knows what state my skin would be without your amazing info and suggestions. 🖤

Thank you so so so much for this video. I’ve been using Curology for my tretinoin and the first trial bottle I got I used up super quickly. I was using like 2 or 3 pumps or more for my face because it didn’t feel covered at all. I tend to over apply my moisturizers so when that didn’t feel completely covered I used more of it. I never woke up with tret face the next morning at all, if anything my skin was super glowy and hydrated maybe a tad greasy but uh yeah... gonna use a pea sized amount like you suggest from now on and hopefully my larger bottle will last the two months lol 😅😅😅 Also do you know of any kind of retinol/ exfoliating body lotions or body washes that can help with resurfacing stretch marks or marks on the body? I imagine a retinol might help but am not too sure.

Alisha Pisha Thank you I’ll have to check out the Paulas choice product. And I’ll try the one pump per application for the Curology. I just don’t want to use too much, run out and then not have any until the next bottle gets sent out. That’s what happened with my trial bottle, I didn’t have it for a week or so and I felt like my skin went back to the way it was before I started the tretinoin. It wasn’t as plump and firm and the fine lines in my forehead came back. 😭😭 I could also try mixing it with my moisturizer to give it some more slip so I feel like my entire face and neck are covered.

Hmmm I've not seen any research that would suggest they don't mix, do you have a source? Peptides are a huge class of ingredient with very different functions so I could see some not being an effective blend but there are lots of products that combine retinol and peptides on the market.

  • @sleepychild9781

    @sleepychild9781

I've also heard that. It's possible that mixing the two could render the peptides useless. However, since retinoin is not meant to be used daily, you could add a peptide serum in the morning or on the other days of the week. Or just use it in combination with retinoin if the other ingredients in the serum are good.

The way you overenunciate words constantly makes me feel like I'm a kindergartner lol. That aside, it's kind of interesting how your skin kinda goes back after that first tret adjustment period. I started off oily, went very dry for a few weeks on the 0.1% tret, had to pack a few gallons of moisturiser in, then when I had to dial the dosage back to 0.025% because it was giving me severe dry eye my skin went right back to oily. Ngl I was kind of hoping that 0.025% will keep the dryness up - alas, it was not meant to be.
