I double-moisturize under the Tret in winter. The first moisturizer is packed with ceramides. The second one has a hint of petrolatum (so it is not for everyone, it may can cause congested pores, but in that case You can still use it around the mouth, nose, and eyes). And after 10 minutes i put on the Tret. It helps me to keep my skin sane in the cold season 🙂

For people who are prone to blackheads and/or sebaceous filaments and like to use BHA cleansers but find that they can dry the skin a bit in the winter, the Cetaphil Gentle Clear Clarifying Acne Cream Cleanser is great. Definitely still helps to control pore build-up, but it does not stip the skin barrier.

I've been on 0.05% tretinoin for about 3 years. It's my sweet spot . Here's my secret. About 2 years ago I realized I didn't need to wash my face in the morning, at all. Now I wake up, brush my teeth, and throw on sunscreen. I do a thorough double cleanse every evening. My second cleanse always has an acid in it. I couldn't be happier.

I moved and my sensitive skin went crazy. I had to stop all actives for a month. Just started Tret. again at one day a week and Azalaic acid one day a week. I still used my K beauty supportive skincare daily. I just started using the Instree Yam Root cream and it’s lovely for my dry skin this time of year. Illiyoon Alto Cream has been my holy grail. So I am still using it before Tret, then follow with the Yam root. It seems to be working 🤞🏻

Ceramide Lasagne is always a good call, these are great tips when introducing any actives tbh. Since you've mentioned having combination skin, do you treat the t-zone and u-zone differently in terms of barrier care and/or actives? I feel like I'm treating a patchwork quilt sometimes!

I’m just awaiting my first prescription from service equivalent to dermatica here in Australia. I’m ready with the gentle barrier supportive goodies and use this as my only ‘actives’ for a good trial period, I’m going to persevere for 6 months at least and intend to make use of the free unlimited nurse and dermatologist appointments if I have trouble introducing it. For a start I’ve got 2 creams, azelaic and niacinamide for am so I can use the azelaic more often while I introduce Tret. And 0.025% tret and niacinamide at night. Once the tret is up to about 5x per week we’ve already talked about trying a swap to logic acid in with the tret instead of the azelaic acid seperate but we will see.

I used tretinoin for nearly 2 years. I saw results but generally my skin was very sensitive, no matter what I used or not used. I didn't like that I couldn't use any acids (on nights when I didn't use tret of course). So I switched to retinal 0.1% and have exactly same results but my skin is so much calmer, less sensitive and I can use acids with it (on different nights, of course).

I think borage oil has been helping me with 0.05% tretinoin, I had a really hard time tolerating it, now I'm using it every 2 days. I decided to give it a try after I heard Mad About Skin recommend it for very sensitive and irritated skin. Then I read somewhere that it specifically helps with tretinoin :) (there's even a patent about that) I mix 1-3 drops borage oil with my moisturizer, on the nights I'm not using tretinoin. And on the nights I use tretinoin, I apply the Stress Less serum by Geek & Gorgeous before. This is not because it's winter LOL, I started doing that when it was still warm 😆 I also only cleanse at night (morning I splash water only) regardless of what season of the year it is. In my AM routine I've been using the Light On serum lately (BoJ) as a means to use a soothing & calming serum and a vitamin C 2 in one (earlier I used only a vitamin C serum or 2 serums layered). I don't know if my skin is dry, I just don't see it producing oil (only a tiny bit on the forehead at the end of the day). It might be because of age (4Xs) or not. I used to have oily skin but that was a long time ago.

Borage is a good source of omega fatty acid which is great for treating dry skin! Between age and tretinoin use it's very common to notice more dryness. I also used to have very oily skin but not any more!
