Peanut butter is rather expensive in France. And there are some unnecessary ingredients. So a few years ago, I thought I'd check the ingredients in the packets of roasted peanuts sold as an aperitif. The cheapest ones. Just roasted peanuts, salt and a little peanut oil. So I figured it wouldn't hurt to try. I toasted my peanuts a little more in a frying pan. I let them cool, then headed for the blender. No need to wash or peel them. And the result is impeccable. 👌 Since then, I haven't bought another jar of peanut butter. Nor tahini, I make the same thing with toasted sesame seeds, and a drop of toasted sesame oil. Or with toasted, peeled walnuts, almonds or hazelnuts and a little oil. All in all, a great way to save money and make beautiful gifts. Cute little jars, varied, with pretty labels. Greetings from France 🇫🇷 and happy holidays to you all.🎄🎁🌟🥰👋

I buy roasted peanuts, so all I have to do is put them in the food processor. It comes out much thicker than this, which is more similar to store bought peanut butter. It almost tastes like candy, especially if you add honey. It can be rolled into balls and coated with melted chocolate for a good treat.

I learned how to make homemade peanut butter while I was living in another country because all I could find at the grocery stores there was peanut butter loaded with sugar. Also learned how to make homemade yogurt since I couldn’t find it very often in stores. It’s amazing how easy all these things are to make but most people go for the convenience stuff.

Thanks for reminding me ... I used to make my own peanut butter, though didn't add salt or oil. Sometimes, more out of laziness, I didn't peel the skins off. I liked it just as well. Also, peanut skins contain potent rich antioxidants. It has been noted that the when peanuts are consumed with their skins, their antioxidant capacity doubles and roasting can at times actually increase this capacity as well. Thanks again.

You are welcome!😊 Thanksfor the info!💐
I have been making my own PB in the UK for a few years. I used to add peanut oil, but was told I didn’t need it. I do cheat a bit, as I am old and struggle to spend time removing the shells. So I get plain pre-peeled shelled nuts from the supermarket (400gm) . Then roast them for about 15 minutes, watching to make sure they don’t burn! I let them cool a bit, then add them to the only blender I own, a Nutribullet. With only one power setting it takes time, and I stop if the machine gets too hot. I add sea salt: experience tells me how much. When it is done I pour/scrape it out into a clean class jar with a screwed metal lid. It lasts for months in a cupboard, but in a hot months it can get TOO runny, so I put it the fridge for a while. When I get to the bottom of the jar, I make more and add it. Occasionally, I add a bit of peanut oil to loosen up the thickening old PB first. My daughter won’t eat commercial PB, and I have to make her a jar every month, which she collects. It IS a learning process, and until you het into a routine, your early efforts might not all be perfect. But keep at it.

I love African accents, and peanut butter 😊
For about two decades, I had a Salton peanut butter machine. Used it often from 1975-1995. Then I switched to using a coffee grinder and making small batches. I often mixed in cashews, almonds, or other nuts with the peanut butter for variety. Never roasted any nuts. Sometimes added salt, sometimes not. Been lazy for the last twenty years, just buy Trader Joe's natural pb.
Soooo easy especially the peeling part .Thank you for this video

Thanks very much. I've been "addicted" to Peanut Butter since coming to Canada from England as a child. I've noticed the store bought product no longer has the aroma and taste it used to when I was a kid. So, I'm heading to the bulk store to buy some peanutes. YUMMY
I’ve made peanut butter like this in a Vitamix, which comes with a tamper that can keep pushing the peanuts into the blade without reaching the blade. So any blender of similar power would be able to handle a big batch as shown. Cashew butter can also be made the same way - cashews also have enough oil so you don’t need to add any oil. Other nuts may need a little extra oil. If you don’t have such a powerful blender, you can still make peanut/nut/seed butters if you do it carefully in very small batches. Experiment to find out what your blender can handle. Maybe start with a trial handful or two. Just don’t let it overheat. Let it rest as needed. The Vitamix suggests five minutes max when making peanut butter (which is all the time it needs anyway) but a lower power blender may need shorter intervals. If you don’t have a tamper for your blender, one can be made from a wooden dowel of a good thickness, cut to a size that stays well above the blades. You can drill a hole in the top and insert a thinner dowel horizontally (long enough to extend across the top of your blender container) so it doesn’t fall into the blades while tamping. Useful while blending other things also.
