Saw them live in 84. Been cranking VH since their first album. Nice to see new generations enjoy the same.... After the change to Sammy Hagar they were never quite the same....
I saw Van Halen open for Black Sabbath as a teenager in 1978 in Seattle. I feel very lucky. Van Halen started with... On Fire, and Eddie's guitar was like ice cycles out of the speakers.
in response to your assertion, "they didn't know what was about to hit them".. oh yes they did. ; ) Ted Templeman, the producer for their first 6 albums, said the band was very rehearsed and ready to go despite their young ages. You don't work your ass off to be the best you can be to not expect success. You expect it, that's why you work for it. "if you want it, you got to bleed for it, baby. ain't talkin' 'bout love." now you know what Roth was talking about in that lyric.
That was a jam they did in the middle of You Really Got Me because the music on the first album wasn't long enough for the 1 1/2 hour average concert back then...so they had to kill some time...

It sounded like Eddie mixed a little of the solo he had in your no good into you really got me, which is cool but i believe that's what you heard.

It was filmed with a super 8 film camera...you can only film 3 minutes before you have to change the film...that's why there is much of the concert that didn't get filmed...
