Don't have kids but as someone who travels a lot the first thing I did was invest in a good security system with two-way cameras + motion detectors in every room and front/back cameras and lights. It's good to have neighborly neighbors who will watch out for you and yours. Paula's a slice of fried gold of a neighbor for calling the cops and going to try and check on the kid. Admittedly if it's a burglar/home invader it's a dumb idea to go to the house, you don't know if the burglar would hurt you to try and make a "no-witnesses" getaway, but the concern Paula obviously has for the kid is a nice touch. Also I liked the little details Manly missed about the guy creeping up the stairs while he was eating that entire tray of lasagna, and that invader opening the door/coming out of the parents' bedroom if the protagonist tries to answer the door for Paula. That's an incredibly dangerous situation that Paula almost caused, because the invader would have only needed a hostage to make everything that night/morning infinitely worse for everyone. Paula's intentions were in the right place, but inadvertently could have made the situation worse if the protagonist had been captured/killed on the way to the front door, and crazily enough most officers would only be told about the attempted home invasion/burglary in progress, so they might waste time detaining/arresting Paula if she's still at the front door when they show up, giving the (now alerted) home invader(s) cause to scramble for any escape venue or leverage they can get.

I grew up in a fairly safe neighborhood, but my folks always instilled in me the habits of double checking doors, windows and making sure to not open the door to strangers. Even now, as an adult in my own place, I still make sure the door is locked and bolted. It can get rough and loud out late at night, and there's something unsettling about strangers banging on your door at night. Living up high only helps me feel a little safer; no one except Batman is going in through the top of a building, lol. Stay safe guys.

There’s so many creepy little scenes/details in this that you can just tell the amount of work and love the developers put into this. Every playthrough I’ve seen is a different experience depending on what the player chooses to do, and the game rewards you for looking around and taking in the atmosphere. Like, if you go into the parents room at the beginning and look out the window, you can see the intruder outside on the sidewalk, and later in the game (some point after watching tv?) you can find the back door wide open.

*To the game creator:* You don't need to fix your sleeping schedule. One of the big corporate myths is that people need to be up early in the morning. This is just entirely wrong, both historically, and financially. There's 4 types of sleeping schedules people natural have, and it's almost impossible to change it. Morning, afternoon, evening, and intermittent. The first three are self-explanatory. Intermittent people wake up when they aren't tired and go to sleep when they are regardless of the time, and actually this is very normal and was the standard back in the day. We've always needed people awake at all hours. If you didn't have night time people the village would be overrun by animals or intruders, and someone had to keep the fires going. In modern times, corporations are losing value and money by forcing people to work all at once time. It would be more beneficial for people to replace workers going home, so there's less need for more computers, etc.

I need to fix my sleep schedule because I’m tired all the time, don’t have time to cook because it’s like 3 am when I’m hungry and I don’t want to wake up family, and hardly see other people since I’m asleep from 10am - 7 pm. If I still had my job, I’d be too tired to go to work or I’d have to stay awake for a few extra hours and pass out as soon as I’m home. I wouldn’t say it’s a complete myth.

As a kid my parents separated, every other week i used to live with my mom on the country side. Every now and then i would be left home alone. I didn't live in a rough area or nothing but my mom has always been the parent tell you about everything that could possibly happen. Our house was pretty big and for a kid it could be pretty scary in the dark so I used to grab the biggest knife in the kitchen and keep it by my side. If I heard a sound I would walk around the house hiding the knife behind my back clearing every room and corner 1 by 1. Luckily nothing ever happened but I can definoutly relate to you walking around the house prepared for an attacker. Funny looking back at it tho. Great content by the way.

occasionally, after a bad storm, the power will go out in my home. this can last for hours, sometimes. sometimes, it'll happen around the afternoon, and if it lasts long enough it'll get to the point where the outside is just bright enough to still see a great distance, but dim enough that nothing is entirely clear. without the sun shining into the windows, the inside of the house is almost as dark as it is in the dead of night, and yet the outside, despite the faintness, is much brighter. in this peculiar time, the outside seems at once murky and uncertain, and yet safer than inside. the hours without power have made the house seem dreary and enervating, and the outside feels almost vivifying by comparison. almost, but not quite. like staving off illness rather than curing it. the outside seems safer than the inside. but only safer, not safe. to this day, these peculiar times are some of the most unnerving experiences i have ever had.
