"You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is a Christmas song that was originally written and composed for the 1966 cartoon special How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The lyrics were written by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel, the music was composed by Albert Hague, and the song was performed by Thurl Ravenscroft.

I enjoyed your reaction to this fun Pentatonix video. Thank you. Matt was an excellent lead on the song. They are all amazing. They do their own arranging, along with Ben Bram who is unofficially like the 6th member of the band. Merry Christmas to both of you.

PTX’s use of what you are calling negative space (love that term, btw!) has been a signature of theirs since the very beginning. It popped up often on their Sing-Off performances and was a big standout moment when it happened (once, they even had what one online acapella expert called a “syncopated rest”).

This version is a toss-up with Voiceplay's for my favorite. But this time of year, several visits with the Grinch are good for us, yea? Love your breakdown of it and just your overall appreciation of music, especially acapella. Your channel has been a goldmine of a find for me this year. Thank you. As we head into 2022 and after your 25 days of Christmas are over, don't forget Home Free's "Auld Lang Syne." One of the best I've heard.

Yep. Geoff is an incredible showman and his range lets him carry the lower notes more strongly and clearly, but Matt's half-pop half-classic tone gives him a purr that just suits the mischief of the song wonderfully. I laugh at Geoff's visual presentation, but Matt's purr can make me laugh without seeing the video. And PTX really is more likely to switch up styles between verses to keep things interesting, while Voiceplay tends to just switch up leads.

I know I'm late but my channel was hacked and suspended so I couldn't comment till now that I've got it back BUT I think the group you were thinking of is The Manhattan Transfer and one of my favourite PTXmas songs is White Christmas by Pentatonix featuring The Manhattan Transfer. The layering is insane. I know it's too late for Christmas but if you like this you should hear that. There's no video as such but there is a visualiser version with a cheery fireplace background. You could also check out The Manhattan Transfer's "Birdland" although, to appreciate the genius of the arrangement and vocalese, you have to first hear the original by weather Report which is a trip in itself. It's the track that first got me hooked on The Manhattan Transfer back in the 80s coz I was already a fan of Weather Report. Both versions are available on KZread. Happy New Year fellow music lovers.

Late, late ... their large ranges allow them to do all sorts of things that other groups can only dream of. Matt and Scott can both double on either bass or baritone. Scott and Mitch can double on tenor. Kirstin and Mitch can double on both alto and soprano. The arrangements by Ben Bram and the group themselves are off the hook. You two are technical enough that you really would get a lot out of the Recording Evergreen video, which is a short documentary (~ 17 min.) about how the most recent album was recorded: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f2pkta2Em7SyodI.html You will see Bemn Bram working with them as both arranger and recording engineer, and how the group themselves enhance the arrangements.

The really old acapella group, is the Swingle Singers. They started back in the vinyl record era. I don't think they ever did this song though; they mostly did covers of stuff that was in the public domain (Bach, etc.). And yes, sometimes they sang with a minor jazz band behind them, although they did also do true acapella singing sometimes. The best version of this song, is VoicePlay's, hands down. No contest.

For more 5/5 PTX that is NOT Christmas related (haha, past retail worker here) I’d suggest: Early days: Can’t Stop Us (Macklemore and Ryan Lewis cover) excellent and high energy, and they can rap! Great Newer Song: “New Rules x Are You That Somebody” (Dua Lipa & Aaliyah mashup) features Kevin and Matt and is FIRE! 🔥 Original: “Sing” I just love this one. Scott is at his gritty best, and it features video clips sent in from celebrities and other fans, and the end has a HUGE group of fans that answered an online call to be in the video on the pier in Santa Monica CA. It’s just pure fun and joy! Keep ‘em coming please! I don’t even want to watch anyone else react at this point! 🤣😘

Scott is versatile for a baritone. Tenors normally do most of the melodies, Scott likes to be a tenor and baritone and sometimes a bass and wants to do it all, and usually does. haha I wish my headphones were better, unless Matt is predominate (like now) I hardly hear him at all. I miss Avi because I was able to hear him in the backgrounds with the bass with my cheap little headphones I use at my computer.

I'd like for you to know the characters and see how many songs they sing that you can guess. The dog that Kirsty (Dorothy) has in her arms, is Todrick's dog and appropriately named Toto. I hope you do a reaction to it. At almost 24 million, I think it deserves your attention.
