You speak of your own mistakes and confusions however you also talk of education that you were taught to by others, what if you were yet to see the lie that you have been part of would that mean your life is a lie? Could you ever be the truth if you are incapable of listening to the truth through the lies you have learn and therefore become? What if you are falsely labelled layered and controlled would you be free to be the truth?

I am inherently a violent man. I have studied martial arts for fifty years in order to, in part, control that anger and aggression. Being trained and beaten up by experts has, oddly, made me into an outwardly peaceful man for whom combat would be abhorrent. Anger has done nothing but cause me grief and separated me from the people who I love. And yet, it's within all of us. So, how do we rise above that? I would love to say that martial arts did it for me, but it didn't, because it's a violent religion. The anger, although suppressed, was still there. The only path to peace was the way, the truth and the life, and I was turned from atheist into Christian by violence from the Lord himself. And that inner voice that Peterson speaks of? It's loud and clear, takes no prisoners, never takes a day off, can filter out any bullshit you throw at it, will lovingly edit your character with a metaphorical scalpel, doesn't even allow thoughts to be sinful and will call me to account for them. It is a Spirit of power and a sound mind, and if you don't have that sound mind, it will change it for you. After all, how do we change our very minds? I can't do it, can you? It takes something outside of ourselves to do it, something so awesomely powerful that the atoms you're composed of can be rearranged without causing harm. One of the ways that happens is by showing you the truth, as brutal as that may be. It's transforming and renewing, that process, but more than that, it is the distillation of love into it's most concentrated form. That love cannot be suppressed, not by you or anyone else, once it has taken hold of you. Every time you slide back into the sewage of your previous life, that love will haul you out again. He never gives up. He's the martial artist who can't be defeated. His moves are perfect. His motives are perfect. My life is worth living because of the Lord. All else is superfluous, all religions are hobbies, philosophies are passing fads and my extensive education is now just training in how to think. There are times in which doubt reigns supreme, I'll admit, but He never has abandoned me. Peterson is right. So let's speak the truth, that inner voice is the Holy Spirit of the Living God and the world will brand you as insane for listening to Him, let alone doing what He says. Fortunately for us, the world has been overcome.

I came to very much the same thought process as a young Marine, just back from our deployment to Beirut, a man raised to be violent, excusing it as defense of my country, and discovering "everyone is like this, the world over". I've continued to work on self, and even now, forty years later, have much to do. We don't even see the vast majority of our evil ways, until we've eliminated the loud, vociferous "worst" and only then can see the rot, the incredible waste, that has accumulated under our sight, hidden by the opaque "worst" we identify as such, whether it is our worst, or only in our own eyes. I lost my wife of 36 years, two years ago to a disease I came back from the Gulf with, manifested as multiple sclerosis, which I've shared with she, our daughter, some three pet dogs which died of neurological disorders, and it's the loss of the love of my life that has occasioned the second half of my efforts to clean my soul up. It's a great relief to stop being in charge of the world, of course something none of us are ever capable of, despite ruining ourselves in the attempt. "That inner voice was loud, but we can most often, hide it with our own clamor. It doesn't stop though, and we do.

@@johnmcclain3887 Of all the weird things that the Lord throws our way, death is one of the strangest. We were never meant to die. I am sorry you lost your wife, that is a tragedy beyond measure. The weird thing is, that the Holy Spirit sees death in an entirely different way than we do. The best I can present to you is that it's like a graduation. The world is a preparation, heaven is the destination, and she will meet you once again at the gates. The Bible is full of concepts that are in full denial of human nature. Example; Vengeance is mine, I will repay. Whaaaat? One roundhouse kick and the guy is done Lord. Lemme hit him! Or; if she's willing, what could possibly be wrong with having sex with her? And the Holy Spirit says, you stepped over the line when you thought about having sex with her, not the act which would be bad enough, just the thought. Whoa! That's extreme. And why is the relationship with God so contrary to our fallen natures? He's holy and we ain't. But we have to get there, to be holy, set aside for his purposes. So even the thoughts in our minds have to be pure. Is that easy? Getting to that point is only done with the Holy Spirit, we can't do it ourselves. So no, it isn't easy. Impossible actually, without Him. And it's two steps forward and three steps back a lot of the time, as we are molded into the character that He has determined. That is where you and I are right now, being changed into the characters He desires. The best is yet to come.

It is because we have all committed sin and are afraid to face the wrath of God. This is why Adam and Eve were hiding after they have eaten of the fruit. Only then it started bothering them that they are naked. But the good news is God loved us so much that he sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, who died on the cross, paid the price for all our sins so we don't have to be separated from Him anymore. So whoever seeks God with a repentant, humble heart will face only peace, joy and forgiveness. Just like the prodigal son did.

He sent him to set the message in stone. I'm more surprised it worked till this day seeing as any of it could be false, or worse, extremely exaggerated. The only reason people who believe he's real is of little things in life that are overcome with patience and effort are attributed to a prayer being answered or pouring faith into false idols claiming that it was them who "answered they're prayers". I'm the last one to be criticizing but honestly, were it not for the millions of believers then and now, it would only be something else that would draw that kind of inspiration from the masses to make them believe it's the right/only way to lead a full life. His name is Jesus Christ , and only thru Him, we can become adopted by God. From the moment that Adam bit the apple, we were separated from our Father. Jesus Christ made it possible by dying on the cross for us. If Christ did not die for us, there would be no other way to get home and be eternally damned. The Triune God head is real for I have been to Heaven (encephalitis..coma..) and was shown why I needed to come back. I was given a choice as well to stay. What I saw made me return, delivery by an Angel and totally healed. Time is short and I’m witnessing the things I saw that would happen. God’s plan is perfect, and life was not easy. My one and only son committed suicide, my wife went to prison and is now in a mental hospital, yet my faith is getting stronger every day knowing that Jesus Christ died for not just me but for every single one of us. Time is coming quick, seek Jesus Christ before it’s to late. It will be exactly what the Bible says will happen, worse than you can imagine. I have met Satan here as well. He is also real. I pray that you find Jesus Christ, He is the Truth absolutely. No details, believe and you will see, don’t believe and you shall perish for eternity.

In Ecclesiastes we read “For with much wisdom comes much grief, and he who increases know due increases sorrow.” I believe the knowledge this refers to is the true understanding of our own nature. As self examination shows us how deeply imperfect we all are, with dual motives and broken promises and all manner of deceit and corruption, we are deeply grieved. This brokenness is a necessary step in our path to God and redemption. For even in this grief, there is hope.

That we all have a nature we have to keep at bay and ask God to subdue. That even our good works are like filthy rags before a holy God. I guess this is part of what Paul means in Romans 7:20… It was coming to this conclusion about myself about my own life years ago that made realize how much mankind needs God, Jesus and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Mr. Peterson, my husband and I, parents of five sons, have been following you for years now, and we have so appreciated your boldness and unwillingness to surrender to the mob from the very beginning! You are a pioneer of sorts in standing up to the woke mob. When you disappeared from the frontlines for a while, I was so worried and prayed fervently for you. I know our God is not deaf and his hand is not too short that he cannot help us. Imagine my delight to see you not only come back online, in the public eye, but also speak on biblical matters! May I suggest you read “Birthright” by Timothy Alberino? I may be biased, but I think he is gifted in that he has been able to articulate very complex information in such a clear way, he has connected the dots for many a sincere, inquisitive person.

What I do know about the author is that he draws a distinct line between what is his opinion and what is doctrinal, and he backs it up with scripture. I take any and every biblical teaching with a grain of salt, lots of prayer, and hold it up to Scripture. The Holy Spirit is the one who leads us and guides us into all truth, not man.

Great commentary & insights. I’m fighting the battle you described right now. Cutting away and letting go of the old... Striving for something new, something better... to be the man that God intended me to be. Life... war, PTSD, my brother’s suicide, loses due to disease... Life was literally beating me to death, to an early grave via a life of quiet desperation. Finally, I’d had enough and hit my knees...desperately seeking God’s love, mercy, grace and forgiveness. He, our Creator, has answered those prayers in amazing ways and I refuse to go backwards. It’s not about “Lord won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz...” it’s about “Lord God, I need you.... help me seek YOUR truth and be who you intended me to be.” Sometimes it takes cutting thru a lot of crap and looking at yourself in the mirror...and really understanding that it all starts with that person staring back at you.

You nailed it exactly. We desperately fight for control of our lives, in a world where we will never truely have control. We may, at times, feel as if we have everything under control, but that is just a facade established in the fact that we are only narrowly looking at life, not recognizing that there is always something lurking in the dark ready to take our control again. Ultimately, death is a reality we all have to face, to which none of us have any control. As you have rightly expressed, we must give our lives to our Creator, through the redemptive sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We must lose our life in order to save it.

Jordan Peterson does not have the Holy Spirit so he cannot properly do exegesis of scripture from the Bible and interpret it well. He gets many things wrong as a result and can hardly lead anyone to the truth but can only grasp at it because Jesus is the truth and the only way to eternal life. John 14:6.

Don't give up; Don't quit; Don't lose hope, and surrender...call upon GOD! Be prudent. Be honorable. Be prepared. Prepare, when, and where, in your life that you can; and this includes, most importantly in your relationship with God. You are worth so much more than you can fathom, and especially what you can fathom during hard times; you are not unique in going through hard times--absolutely everyone, no matter how well off you think that some are, suffer excruciating times, so please don't think that you are alone and therefore can't make it or survive--I'm delivering you this message from your Creator: you can and will make it, and in fact--once on the other side of these struggles that you face, if you persevere, you can and will THRIVE! Yeshua(Jesus) loves you, much more than you'll ever be able to truly understand; call upon Him in your times of trouble and weariness; He will get you through it all! I pray this encourages someone out there. ---RHALL ⁰⁴ ⁰³ ²⁰²²

An interesting discourse from Jordan Peterson. It is interesting to see his approach as he logically builds an argument from a psychological standpoint. The truth is crucial. Yet here is the rub: we live in a nation where ~94% of high school students graduate believing that truth does not exist. So they don’t even look for it. Our nation has pursued the axiom, “doubt everything, nothing is true”. Our schools do not teach critical thinking, logic is taught in a small section of academia, coherence and correspondence are despised in some cases. One teacher told my niece in a debate class that the truth is not the issue, the issue is winning the argument. I work for a CPG company which is built upon the view that truth and integrity are indispensable they train with the GAP negotiation training which has as its first rule of negotiation: there are no rules. What an absurd contradiction. GAP is going to give you a rule to teach you there are no rules, and a company which is built upon the premise of truth and integrity is going to allow a presupposition that in negotiation “anything goes”. There is a need to move beyond the evil and malevolence. There is a need to recognize as the Human Performance Institute once taught us that “humans have a propensity to self-deception”, i.e. we lie to ourselves. This is so true. Our western civilization has aborted logic by using reason to deny reason (opposites which contradict are allowed to co-exist at the same time and in the same sense, words no longer refer because you can make them mean what you want, and the coherence and correspondence of an argument is no longer necessary in the context of creating “hope” because if you deal in “reality” then you are really being negative). We have lost the Ontic Referent. Our worldview no longer seeks a transcendent, unchanging, absolute, truth from which to build our societal mores. So, having aborting logic one can see that it is no wonder we find truth bleeding in the streets. Our nation is a drift in a raging sea of ideologies with no line of sight of the shore we so desperately need. We talk about getting “better” but we have no benchmark in order to gauge if change is moving to the better or to the worse. All that happens is that we feel the pain, we sense the tension, but we are left hopeless for the solution. We need to come out of the dark into the light. We need to seek the Ontic Referent and realize that when we test for the truth in sincerity and we find the truth then we will find (given that truth includes human personality) that ultimate and absolute truth will be found in a person; thus the words of Jesus (which you must accept or reject), “I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus, as Anthony Flew recognized, was an 1st class ethicist yet Jesus was so much more. C.S. Lewis knew this and so he expounded on this in his work "Mere Christianity". Adding to the list of atheist and skeptics: we find Lee Strobel, J. Warner Wallace, Peter Bocchino, Josh McDowell, Nabeel Qureshi, Hugh Ross, Abdu Murray and so many more. Study it, Test it, and you will see that Jesus can pass all the tests for truth whether logical, philosophical, and historical. The Bible record has stood the test of truth and the test of time. The final nail is the corresponding impact on one's life. Truth is needed. If we don't find the truth, accept the truth and walk in the truth; then we are left with one thing: the lie.

"truth is not the issue, the issue is winning the argument." the sad thing about someone who thinks this is that it only serves false, self gratifying pride in being ostensibly intellectually superior to another, and it does so at the expense of the truth (which is the part that makes it particularly egregious). Truth should always be paramount, especially in regards to something so destructive as vain, self aggrandizing pride. I enjoyed your comment. Very well written and articulated.

One doesn’t discover one’s authentic self, without first going through a period of demythologizing or deconstruction of self. This is an incredibly difficult process to engage in and one that most people choose not to complete. However, you can’t begin the process of reconstructing anew, until you rid yourself of the lies you have been living with. Finding a good mentor or spiritual director that holds you accountable to the truth is critical at this stage of the process.

In John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Truth, then, is not a mere concept or even an ideology. Rather, truth is a person: Jesus. Realising that Jesus is the "truth" brought me to faith in him as Lord and Saviour fifty years ago. Jesus is the "truth" that sets us free. I have been free for fifty years.

Gee whiz John you left out Leviticus. That's where the good stuff is, along with many other chapters in the OT. You can't just cherry-pick the parts you like. As to banning the Word - well your constitution put paid to that. Religion is to be an individual choice, not banned, and certainly not imposed. Oddly the US of A has a proliferation of strange baptist type faiths all clamouring to be seen as the best of a rag-tag bunch. Really not helpful at all. In fact the supernatural isn't helpful at all.

@@briggsquantum the Word is supernatural. That having been born of the flesh is flesh, and that having been born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:6 I don’t cherry pick either. You’re either born again or you’re not. My point it’s never been about religion. Jesus said He came that we might have life and have it abundantly. Nicodemus was very religious, yet not born again and didn’t know what it meant. From that time Jesus began to proclaim and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has drawn near!"

Verse 4 says, “Although a ship is large and driven by strong winds, it is steered by a small rudder wherever the pilot wants it to go.” It’s the same way with the tongue. Even though it’s a small part of the body, it’s steering your life. What you’re saying is determining which direction you go. The good news is you have control over the rudder. You control your tongue. Are you sending your words out in the direction you want your life to go? Thanks for reading this comment, I hope you are blessed and uplifted by it. Rare and wonderful to hear a person talk with such sincerity about profound matters, but it was also rather strange to be left with the feeling that the terrible things were all supposed to be over by the turn of the century, and that they aren't going on right now, even while Dr. Peterson speaks... Now our own governments despise 'ordinary people', because they apparently desire to be more 'elite' than us. So not all of what we have to do is an inner crusade, crucial though that is for our psychological and moral well-being. Some things in the outer world also need to be drastically fixed.

The timing of me seeing this, and hearing what is being said, taking it in, processing it, and understanding it in the context of what I've been going thru recently, and at this very moment, and likely more moments to come, but declining in number and frequency, may have just pulled me back from the ledge of the abyss I felt I was swan diving into with such a feeling of apathy and recklessness I've never felt before, basically a care factor of fuck all, I was ready to set what's left of my existence on fire, get real cosy with not just my darkest thoughts, but action them, and it would have likely resulted in me taking the life of another, not just anyone, someone that has done something to me I never thought they would, an act of betrayal I still can't comprehend, especially when it is now evident they have inflicted this upon me with calculated and deliberate actions, and then smugly rub it in my face to make sure I know it was deliberate! I most likely would have taken myself out afterwards, for the person I was going to eradicate before I cashed in my chips, wasn't worth spending the rest of my days in gaol for, or, self immolation! ...What I took from this was, I should never let another's actions towards me, control my emotions the way they have previously, fuck that, fuck them, they don't have that right, nor do they have a say in how my journey progresses from this point onwards, their greed, selfishness, breach of trust and betrayal, speaks volumes of the horrible person they are, and probably always have been and will be! ...I will not let them turn me into something as putrid and abhorrent as them, and I will not betray myself and my loved ones by becoming something I'm not! ...I thank fate for it's impeccable intervention, and I sincerely thank JBP for his sage words of wisdom! ☮️♥️😉👌
