I just need to watch this a few hundred more times. Getting there though.
I hope many new to car audio stumble across this video. Great video D!!
Man, I'm so glad you took the time to break this down and what a great explanation.
I use crossovers with my DSP to protect my speakers in the event the DSP settings get changed or lost.

Unless your dsp is trash, that shouldn't be a problem
Makes so much more sense now. I struggle understanding mids and highs adjustments. This pretty much simplified it for me. Dean you are awesome sir
Yeah do more of this please thank you
Please create a multi part video series on setting up a DSP for the following. Start to finish Time alignment High/low-pass filter PAREQ Tone correction using REW
Ill need to listen to this a few times. Great knowledge dump!
The passive crossovers are due to Dean’s long history being a vital part of the Amish community :). Great video as usual!
Love it. Knowledge is power
Wow man I just asked you this question the other day and I love the timing of it!! I’ve been on the fence about picking up a dsp amp or purchasing the crossover boxes for my front 3 way component’s. The way you explained it just now made total sense!!! Love that very informative for us hobbyist:) I saw a video last week where you guys at some point in history installed one of these 4ch audio controls but then you still ended up using the Passover crossover boxes in the doors and I was like WHAT IS HAPPENING 😅
Good morning from New Jersey guys. Great video by the way 👍
If AudioControl just made a 7 channel DSP amp this could all be avoided. If they really wanted to make it the perfect amp they could also add load resistors internally and make it start-stop compatible. I waited over a year hoping it would finally happen, but it never did so I just pulled the trigger on a D-5.1300. I'm going to try it out with passive front stage, amplified rear and active front stage, non amped rear to see which I prefer. It just sucks to spend that much money and still have to make compromises.
Man I glad I ran across this video!
Good teaching Dean
A Lot of info put into that 16 minute video. Great product and demo and although most people who are into installing their own stuff will understand most of it on the first go through, a lot of beginners would appreciate some color diagrams even if drawn on a piece of paper for them to mentally grab the concepts. Thanks for taking the time to make these explanation type videos.
Awesome video! More please
Like many, I watched this tutorial video about 30 times to fully grasp the installation process for my AudioControl D-5.1300 amplifier. Unfortunately, I ended up losing my tweeters due to the wiring in my 2019 F150 Lariat B&O. To compensate, I adjusted the amplifier to redirect those frequencies to other speakers for my high-ranges. I'm planning to install an additional amplifier to enhance the front soundstage and have been using KZread to guide me through selecting the right upgrades and rewiring, ensuring my tweeters will function correctly for the second phase of my upgrades. - thank you for this video and many others to help us who need this knowledge.

Man how much these installers want nowadays for me anyway I need to do everything on my own or else it won’t get done !
Very well explained in the simplist terms to those whom are new to audio systems. Another benefit to active crossovers, is efficiency. Less wasted energy as a by-product of heat going thru a passive crossover. Perfectly fine to use a combination of both while tuning ones system. In a fully active crossover system, if a dsp every crashes, tweeters can be likey the first to go if not caught in time. Tweeters for the most part, doesn't require a lot of power. Woofers & subwoofer does demand more. Music is dynamic, constantly changing. Wattages rating on speakers is a thermal rating in general. No need to chase big amplifier power #s, headroom (bigger amplifier) can be good to raise ceiling before limitations of equipment. Find what suits ones ears & be mindful if something is sounding off/distorted at higher listening levels. Back down the volume to preserve one's hearing (most importantly for longevity) & to save equipment. May all continue to learn...
Great video!
Good morning guys… from Massachusetts
Well done
This is the best, have asked this question many times… I wonder how many people set the active dials on their 4 channels and then set the active crossovers on their DSP… isn’t that redundant and unnecessary? Also, the takeaway should get a dozen speakers and 2 dozen amps and a 3 dozen channel DSP to make sure you’re really cool in the future!
Can y’all please do a Sony ES install. Ik u guys already went to their booth way back but it’s about time we see an install of their beautiful pieces
Now I get it 😀 In other words, if you're doing the install yourself, get more channels because the cost of the install for a professional to do it will be worth the cost upgrade in the amp when you do it yourself. Plus you don't have to worry about installing more items like passive crossovers. Thanks Dean! So much useful information!

Just got a 5 channel installed for 275 they weren't happy because they said I was quoted the wrong price 'it was just for bass' I said I would have just bought a mono amp 🤷♂️
I would live to see how you would design a system using a 3.5" 2 way and a mid driver. Something often found in a Chrysler or Toyota.
Digital active crossovers, DSP, have a FUNDAMENTAL advantage over passive ones and that is that they do not modify the PHASE of the signal.
Did anyone else know immediately that the coaxial he used as an example was the new AC PNW series speakers😂 I want to try these speakers SO BAD!
great video greatings from belguim do jou have more video.s about car hifi
Dean would you put Focal Slatefiber or the audiocontrol 6 1/2 Comps in the front and coaxials in rear and i have a D6-1200 for the power
In theory though, is there any benefit to running passive crossovers if you are going for an active setup for the front components in a 6 channel amp dsp? Or would the passive crossovers limit the performance/adjustability that the dsp offers for the front 2 way? I'm running a Helix P Six running my door speakers and active front components. I left the passive crossovers in, but now i'm wondering if I should just let the dsp alone set the active crossovers. Thanks!
Debating on buying those audio control speakers pnw-69cs2. How is their sound quality? What speaker would you compare their sound to ?
I’d like to put a DSP in my truck. But I don’t know of one that you can change the ohm load of the speakers that you are using. In my truck, the tweeters are 4 ohm, the midranges are 2.5 ohm, the mid basses are 8 ohm and the subs are 2 ohm.
Quick question do I need an epicenter if I have an eq?
One question... As there is an audio processor (DSP) inside the amplifier, I assume you will use the active (digital) crossover that is inside the DSP. So you won't install the physical/passive crossovers? Or even if there is a digital crossover (which is inside the DSP) are you "obliged" to install passive/physical crossovers? I think this: if there is a digital (active) crossover and I don't need to use the passive (physical) crossovers that come with the speakers... Am I right or wrong?
Can I do this with the factory radio?
Has anyone done a system on a 2023 cx5 without the bose.
Make another dsp amplifier for tweters separately and for 6.5 separately and for 6x9 separate to make full active❤please
What’s the point of Focal bi-amp passive crossovers 😵💫
👍
I'm stuck at traffic cop
Why are you playing ice cream truck music in the background of the video?
I dont know why would anyone run AC DSPs ...HELIX is just a far better DSP... if anyone here is planning on getting a DSP, DONT GET A AC....save up, get a loan, or simply just get a HELIX, MOSCONI, or even a ZAPCO but not this

JL audio Twk88 is fantastic, affordable and is absolutely fine. Get a Helix Dsp if u got the budget and if u want that clear movie sound studio recording quality. Personally, with the right amplifiers, devices and correct installation, u will be able to enjoy your favorite music at higher volume with excellent sound quality without the Helix Dsp.
Or, just run the rears from the head unit and run the front end active, thank me later.

Done that in one car but my other car all are active with DSP And I don't want to drive the other car anymore 😂
Great video! I would never buy audio control; the name sucks.

as always as always. always.
So if I use a dsp amp do I not need aLOC Like the lc7i?

If your head unit already has pre-amp outputs (AKA the red and white RCA jacks on the back) then no, I'm pretty sure you'd be good to go. If not, the Audio Control DSP's have speaker level inputs, so no need for a LOC. 👍
