    The benefit of having high voltage output on car amplifiers for RCA connections primarily revolves around improved noise rejection and reduced stress on the amplifier. High voltage preamp outputs allow for a reduction in the gain required by the amplifier, which in turn reduces the potential for noise in the system. This is because a higher input voltage to the amplifier means that the amplifier does not have to work as hard to amplify the signal to the desired level, leading to less distortion and a clearer sound

    After a thorough review of dsp on the market i ended up going with this one thanks in large part to your video. I have had it for over a week now and it has totally changed the game of my system. I love bein able to run the dsp app straight from my android headunit and then using the dayton immc-6 mic connected to my phone to rta tune my system. Couldnt recommend this enough if you have a similar setup 👍 im still learning new things about dsp control and each thing i learn improves everything that much more.

    Having high RCA voltage is very important if you want to keep the gain down on your amplifiers to avoid a high noise floor. Alot of amps with poor signal to noise (manufacturers LOVE to lie about the s/n numbers) need the gain down low or you will hear noise. 4 or 5v is plenty. I've owned DSPS with 2v all the way up to 8v RMS on a helix DSP ultra and i can say that if you have a solid 4v or higher it is sufficient for the vast majority of applications.

Did you by-pass it or was you able to get a 1/0 through there! I’ve searched forums and everything but can’t find a definitive answer! It look like I could only fit a 4 gauge thru it but I plan to get a HO alt later so will have to upgrade a figure it out the 1/0 later anyway! Do I need anything between this dsp and oem HU like the AC load generator or an Loc? I plan on getting a more powerful amp that has at least 100w x4 @4ohm to power fronts only,.. OR a 6 channel amp to power all speakers instead of the kicker.

    Good timing. Been looking for a DSP and definitely budget minded. I had been looking at the Dayton Audio DSP408 but it had mixed reviews and is twice as much as this one (after buying the bluetooth adapter that it does not include) in the review. Does this accept speaker level inputs? I hear that a dedicated LOC is best even with the ones that do but its still a nice feature. May have to order one today

  • @HiFiVector

    Yea I would use a standalone low level converter they are cheap nowadays. Sadly the Dayton was one I tested and when I eventually tested it it was totally dirty on the signal and I could not get it clean…didn’t even get .5 volts out of it clean. Maybe I got a bad one who knows. But this is a good one for sure.

    Most head units send a 1 - 3 volt signal whereas an LOC will send a 5 - 7 volt sugnal. This really does allow your amp to run cooler, and last longer plus sound better. Otherwise just get an integrated amp. DSP's are still a good thing if you have enough channels. I like running 3 way systems so yeah that can be a challenge with 12 speakers in the cabin. Though there are some good coaxial speakers as well if you don't have a setup for component speakers in your car.

  • @HiFiVector

    Subsonic filter Is just a low frequency cutoff which is same as going into the crossover and let’s say it’s for a subwoofer… so you want to hear from 20hz to 80hz you just set your crossover setting to start at 20hz and end at 80 hz. That will be in the crossover settings on the DSP. It will output all frequencies in between those two numbers. And for tweeters let say 5. Start and 20,000 end etc….

I dont stream via bluetooth as I can do that from the head unit if I wish, I use the USB input for most of my music. It is a set it and forget it but at times I find, especially with mp3, that everything seems to be recorded at different levels so I find myself adjusting the input eq more often than not. I was just curious as to whether the settings were more or less advanced than the DSR1. Overall its been a good unit so far but always looking for something better.

Being as both have really good sub channel adjustments, do you think running sub channel from the head unit to the amp ( smart 3 bass ) would be fine ? And free up channels on the dsp. Yes. I just switched & it sounds better, it has balanced inputs so ZERO noise! The dayton has pitiful input sensitivity, this one can take a full 4+ volts & has much higher output voltage, so you need less gain on the amps. It has a master input gain & input EQ, the dayton does not. I like the time alignment settings better on this one. It has a few quirks. You have to make sure to save any changes because it won't auto save like the dayton. Also, you can't label the channels or presets, or at least I haven't figured it out yet. And you have to connect to it manually each time. So far I like it better & I think it sounds better.

    Except 1 Problem: Using RCA connections on a DSP defeats the purpose. You need a Toslink connection into your amp to continue the digital Signal. DSP - Digital Signal Processor. RCA is analog connections. The problem only 3 amps I know of have Toslink Input: JL Audio, AudioControl, Helix. There may be others but they will certainly be the high end amplifiers. 99.9% of car amps have RCA or speaker level input. What to do? Buy an Integrated amp with DSP included! OR Get either a Kicker or Recoil or AudioControl Line Output Converter (only 3 brands I know that work as advertised). They will clean your signal, and boost the signal to your amp so it sounds better, works less, and runs cooler. Best $25 you can spend on your stereo. Nothing against stand alone DSP's except they seem to defeat the purpose going Analog/Digital/Analog with the signal from the head unit. I think LOC's can provide very good boost to your signal and then just adjust the gain, and high and low pass filters on your amp. With such short wiring lengths you can still get very good SQ with an Analog signal. Especially if you don't skimp on the size of your wire!

  • @Masterdebator881

    @Masterdebator881
