+Leonard Katz I agree with you. Bo Burnham is one of my favorite comedians because, like Tim, he goes beyond just comedy. I'm not sure what else to call what they do besides performance, but they can both be very funny and very thought provoking at the same time. The endings of Bo Burnham's two latest comedy shows, "what." and "Make Happy" really show this too. And for what it's worth, "Make Happy" just came out on Netflix a couple of days ago. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend giving it a try when you have an hour to spend.

Couldn't agree more James, what I found incredible about Make Happy's ending was how it used the comedy format to make his point even more poignant; evoking a slight sense of guilt for laughing for the past hour.

***** He truly IS a fucking genius! Not only a musical scholar, bordering on supernatural, his world view and political position are as spot-on as I could ever hope to aspire to. Its too bad that politicians and world leaders are really just puppets and cannot truly bring change to the problems we face, but if they could, a man like Tim would surely provide as good a step forward as ANY of the baffoons that hold those positions currently might EVER even stumble upon by mistake! Coming from a comedian's career I'm sure it could never happen, but can you imagine how great it would be........

This is one of Tim's songs that perfectly explains why he shifted towards a more "serious" career in the last few years. His composing talent and overall musical ability were far more worthy of recognition than the comedy genre was capable of conceding him. Another great example (perhaps the best and most obvious one) is the song "Beauty"

  • @charliedeese6272

That's true but part of this song's brilliance is it's also really funny and comedic in its macabre-ness- there's definitely when something special when Tim manages to do everything all at once. No coincidence that Matilda and especially Groundhog day are also quite comedic, if they were dead serious it wouldn't really be a good match for Tim I don't think

I get wet eyes every time I hear "White Wine in the Sun" I think his greatest gift is to give us a giggle while he makes us feel profound emotions. Sometimes that little giggle makes even the most painful emotion a touch more bearable, and that is beautiful all by itself.

"The successful removal of you would probably kill me too" was the first line in this song that caused me to tear up, and I kept crying throughout. Tim is such a well-rounded musician and composer, and often comedy and drama lift each other up so that they both shine brighter.

It's been two years since your comment, but I saw Tim live this summer and reading that really resonated with me. He explained at the start that while there would still be humour in the show, he was trying to take a more "serious" route with his music. This song and Beauty (he opened with that one) were perfect examples of what you said.

this is actually beautiful with an underlining of comedy, this is why Tim Minchin isn't simply a comedian or musician, he is both! He unifies the two so easily, to make a memorable extraordinary experience. This is evident by the reaction of the audience, who suddenly see that the song is actually quite beautiful and not simple wit, what a talent.

It's been a while since I last heard this song, but every return to it blows my mind. It's the most perfect love song in existence. It's funny, real and unbelievably romantic when you really listen to it. Tim is such an incredible lyricist. How can anyone not love this man?

I've been a massive fan of yours for as long as I can remember and finally got to see you play live last year in November with a woman I loved with everything I had. We split in March and I've not been able to listen to your music since; this is the first time I've returned and it hits so much harder now but drew a smile. Thank you for your the memories and years of joy.

Not to be redundant but this song is the most perfect encapsulation of what I love about Tim. It's in a minor chord so that instantly creates certain feelings and correlations in one's mind; but the lyrics are absurd and funny so this is a completely different set of emotions with which one has to deal. It's this juxtaposition that makes Tim's music so enticing and it's why I always return to it. I'll be seeing Tim in two days. I couldn't be more thrilled. His music means a lot to me.

This is, in my opinion, the most beautiful song I've heard, and Tim Minchin delivers it brilliantly. The first time i heard it, it was in a playlist in the background so I didn't really listen to it and therefore didn't like it that much. It wasn't until the third or fourth time i really listened to it, and when i did, I fell in love with it instantly.

I've seen it said in other videos' comments, but that's a man, straight or queer, guy or girl, I think everyone wants a turn with. May you keep your wits and your charm through out your life.
