Went to see him perform recently. He did the whole set up for the joke, then paused, looked out at the crowd and went "By the way, has this 2 minute set up just been a massive waste of time or is there ANYONE here who doesn't know where this is going?" A couple of people shouted out yeah, and he went "GREAT! This one's for you! You had better think it's fucking amazing." and went right back to playing

That's why he wears the makeup around his eyes. It helps the audience see his expressions. It's a very clever thing to do!

The level of genius you need to be to make a song like this, realize that both words he is talking about share all the same letters and after all of that be lucky enough for him to be a ginger himself so he can sing the lyrics completely owning everything is just absolutely incredible. The many things that needed to happen for this song to exist, it totally blows my mind.

He wasnt talking about the word ginger the song when he said I am careful with it... He is using sarcasm at that point in reference to a different slang word that is 6 letters using the same and refers to race.. hence his deep stare and pause when he says the letter N..But thats where its unique comedy. He makes a point without ever actually saying it. Very amazing piano and lyrics. No way he was being careful with the word ginger it verifies what people initially would've thought from the lyrics in the first verse.

The way he "sneaks up" on you the word "ninja" at the end is effing genius! After 5 minutes of getting into your head, he gets your heart pumping in a fraction of a second when you hear that first syllable of "ninja", followed by the very clever pronunciation of "listening", I could've swore that he said what it's been in my head since the start of the song. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is Prejudice! This is a brilliant piece of social commentary as well as a social experiment. Genius!

Took me until the third listen to get the "a couple g's an 'i' and an 'n" ends in an R." and he spells ginger. minchin is so clever setting up his audience like that in a song called PrEjUdiiCceee (ice ice ice)

This is genius on so many levels. How can he deliver such intelligent lyrics that require proper nuance for the humour to work, AND play piano to that level at the same fucking time. Brilliant.

Damn, I am so fascinated by people with incredible musical talent that decide to use that skill for laughs, props to Tim for writing a song that I would probably still listen to even if it weren't hilarious

Comedy's such a powerful vehicle. I feel the same about Hari Kondobolu. Masters Degree in Law and he's a stand up comedian, but his comedy is so effective. All the brilliance is put to good use.

"I dont think thats appropriate!!!" gets me everytime HAHAHAHAHA

the music is fantastic and his playing makes for such a rich sounds, it's delightful on the ears.

I must have watched this a 1000 times and it still gives me goosebumps. If I ever meet Tm, I'll bow at his feet. Pure genius.

I'll never get back the first time listening to this and not knowing where it goes, but good god that was one of the greatest experiences

How have I never noticed that "ginger" is and anagram for the n-word?

It still blows me away how much talent this took, right down to the lighting change, from blacklight to orange on the word Ginger at 2:40. I will buy tickets the next time I see you near by.

I have nothing but giggles from this song. brilliant!

His piano playing is just so damn phenomenal! His ability to play such technically difficult and off-timed passages so smoothly and effortlessly is simply incredible! Add to that some brilliant word-smithing(?) and you got yourself a world-class entertainer!

This is one of those little things you come across and never forget. The song is lyrically brilliant but the music itself is pretty impressive on its own. Bravo Tim

Any time I'm feeling stressed, anxious or nervous, I just listen to you sing or watch you sing and I instantly feel better. Thank you, Tim! You do so much good in the world. You have no idea! 😍

I imagine the moment he conceived of this idea was so joyous. So much fun; so profound. Gets the point across as nothing else does.

Tim is usually barefoot, unless the song requires a boot. (wich some songs do) :P

My absolute favorite of his songs, so unbelievably creative. The music, the wordplay, comedic timing...these are Herculean efforts in and of themselves. Bravo !

I see the influence he had on my favorite artist Bo Burnham.

this genius of the song is so understated. Few songs if any deserve to become ‘viral’.

I love the audible sigh of relief from the crowd when he first says "ginger" My mood when I was first listening was making me listen in an overly critical way, and I ended up trying to pluck out any meaning I could made me nervous during the first half for no reason other than I was being ridiculous.

I was listening to this with my partner (she's a ginger) and her two sons. Just after tim sings one of the lines her youngest son innocently says to her 'hi tampon!'

He is a genius in being able to present serious social global issues in a way that we can laugh at, but afterwards walk away from with a different perspective in regard to the related subject.

I've listened to this song for ages and only just watched the video for the first time and it made it even better, truly a master at comedy 👌

I simply can't word how I love this man, lol, Tim Minchin is effing amazing.

Perfectly said! I thought the same thing about his exceptional skills as a pianist but to combine that with such amazing lyrics and performance ability this man is truly a genius

This is comedically and musically brilliant on so many levels. like.. my brain is exploding from witnessing this talent!

I can listen to this anytime and it gives me chills and brings a huge smile to my face. Total brilliance!! I thought I could play the piano…not really. The parts where he was snapping, playing one handed and stomping his foot are so good. His nuances, beats and timing are all incredible. If he isn’t, he should be a stand up comedian. So damn good on the piano though… A National treasure!
