"You Fool You" was first recorded in 1961 by the duo Don and Eddie which consisted of Don Gant and Norro Wilson. Roy would go on to record the song included on his debut album for MGM There Is Only One Roy Orbison. Don Gant would record a number of Orbison penned songs as well as finding success as both songwriter and producer. He would go on to produce some of Roy's sessions at MGM and co-write the songs “Cry Softly, Lonely One” and "Run Baby Run (back Into my arms).
