...That's nucken futs! IMHO the Legend trailer should have had significant reinforcement where the torsion axels are/were mounted to the frame... It also makes me question using aluminum for the primary structure component/frame-rail... The new trailer looks awesome, great job with your prep/setup work.

You're the real Legend, Brian. Imagine if there were a group of motorcycles behind your trailer and the axle came loose and took out the motorcyclists? This is why a motorcyclist should stay away from tractor trailers and any vehicle that is towing something because if a trailer isn't hinged properly, or an item isn't strapped down properly, it's game over for the biker. Hope all is good with your new Intech trailer. Go get'em, Max Van! ☘

I hear you. I own a Legend (single axle) , so far so good. But now that you mention it, I will lift it and have it re-enforced. I once blew a tire on it coming into Miami on I-95 and it took the entire fender right off of the trailer (on a 6 feet wide, the fender is outside the trailer) including a backup light that I had installed on the fender. I have since re-enforced the fender mounting points in a way that if the tires decide to blow again, they won’t take the fenders off. Turns out the tires are only good for 10 years these days. After ten years, watch out.

  • @gerrycout7845

Ok. So I just went outside and crawled under my trailer and looked carefully. It’s a Legend 6X12 V nose. 2007 model year. Then I looked at your video again very carefully and sure enough, they are not built the same way. Different size trailer so that’s probably why. The bolts that hold the axle to the frame on mine go straight through the beam and I can see the heads on top of the frame. But they also re-enforced the top of the frame with an additional 3/8 inch thick aluminum plate so that the bolts cannot rip through the frame. The only way the axle is coming off is if the entire frame rips off. Not just the bottom of the frame like on your trailer. On your trailer, from what I can tell the bolts that hold the axles are installed sideways and the 90° aluminum pieces that hold those axles are then welded to the main frame. Best of luck with this situation. Definitely not a good one.

It also looks like there is a fracture near the front axle too, using that wall thickness on the main chassis rails is insane to me, and in aluminium, AND the have welds near the most stressed area where the axles are mounted, I wouldn't be surprised if half of those legend trailers out there have fatigue cracks.

This is a snowmobile trailer that we were using for sleds and bikes. With the cross country miles to race MotoAmerica it received like 50K miles before it completely failed (odds are it was starting to fail much earlier). Most sledders would never put that many miles on in a trailers lifetime. When I spoke to Legend they told be the miles were irrelevant and the trailer should last hundreds of thousands of miles with proper upkeep. Hard to say how many others will have issues. Now I get under my Intech trailer every couple of rounds, still looks great with like 17k miles. - Van

@@sportbiketrackgear Far-out that is a lot of miles of towing, I had a look on Intechs site and their chassis material looks better and the axles look like they have angle iron between them and the chassis, spreading the load, no welds on alloy and the axles are connected too so the uhhh wheels don't fall off, which is not ideal.

Pretty wild... To be honest, that trailer could've used an extra plate of aluminum to support the axles, but you don't have to file on your insurance if you don't want to go that route. I'd just go but some 3/8" aluminum or stainless stock and cut it to reinforce the mounting points of the axles. Take both axles of and run The material 1.5' past the centers and it's better than the trailer would ever have at been new. I'd fix it and it would take more than an afternoon to make it better than it they built it. There's no way that they can expect that thin of aluminum or stainless to support the load without frame reinforcement. One odd thing on the highway would cause perforation that will begin the failure with such thin material and hard-mounted axles. As the leading axle hits an object, the railing axle will always try to jump downwards. *To clarify after I posted it, I'm talking about TIG welding it.* It honestly looks like aluminum to me and they do make them... If it's stainless or aluminum, it more than likely could have been created by a star fissure, a crack forming condition when you're welding and the metal is rapidly cooled as well as starving the puddle of filler metal. Take a walk around it and look for starts and stops, if you see and fisheye with a deep dimple at the start/finish of a weld... She's eventually going to blow!
