At age 71, I am grey, have wrinkles, and carry extra weight. I also have overcome widowhood, loss of both parents, and near death illness. I carry all of this on my face and body and I like myself. I look at many women who all appear as if they have all gone to the same plastic surgeon and blonding hairdresser. God bless them all. Charlotte, you have made an important video and have spoken truth. Love you.

I don't remember anyone using filters and retouching was unusual and not as easy as it is now. I tried awhile ago to start again, but it was just icky, everything said in this video is correct. Recently I've used makeup and lighting filters for fun and usually say so (I need to go through them now and make sure). Chemo kind of made my skin really bad, so I went through a period when I did. No, I can’t agree. It does matter what you look like. If you’re going to suggest that it shouldn’t, then that’s a different question. The reality is that people get jobs based on how they look. It’s not just models. And people will date you on your looks. Most men never have kids while most women do, and a large reason for this is the way those guys look. I’m middle aged now, and 15 and 16 years old to 50 still flirt with me and treat me much different than they treat most men. And it’s all because of the way I look. Looks matter a lot in this world. If they should matter is a different question.

As someone who is 42 I have decided to dump social media and allow myself to age, I love my greys ( due free for 3 months). People see me as unkept and can’t be bothered to look after herself person. It took me ages to learn to respect my body and the changes age is causing 🥰

Fantastic video Charlotte!!!! Brutally honest and so needed! I'm 61, so I've reached the point in my life where I really don't give a 💩what ANYONE thinks of me or my appearance. But I have the strength of a life well lived behind me with a great career, amazing adult children, long-term beautiful friendships, love and fun! Young women don't yet have that, so they are sucked into image and the fakery you discuss perfectly. So sad. And so happy you mentioned the Kardashians!!! Seemingly, they started it all 🤬Social media can be amazing, but increasingly it is just dangerous and awful.

Due to the fakeness of social media is why Sephora is now filled with 12-year-olds begging their mothers for Charlotte Tilbury, and Dior foundations. And the worst part their mothers are doing it . If you go on Sephora, I was looking at a drunk elephant skincare item, and in the Q&A questions are from preteen girls asking. Girls stating their 12 or 13 asking questions about the skin care😮 It’s ridiculous. They’re also in stores on the weekend destroying the displays and the testers. … It’s really sad, because putting on Charlotte Tilbury‘s pillow talk is not gonna make them look like Kylie Jenner, or Taylor Swift 🤷‍♀️

Yes, I can agree having worked in the beauty industry for 14 years that only since social media almost everybody in the buisness has heavily filtered and distorted pictures of themselves… So much so, that I would see the pictures and ask who’s that? Only to find out it was somebody I actually personally knew and looked completely different online.

18:19 "Its such a privilege to be aging at all" So true! We live in a time where natural aging is shamed to the core and people just want to stay looking young and youthful forever. Societal bullying has lead people to be SO ashamed of their age that they have to hide it. But thats not real life. In reality people age and grow older. Thats the real natural thing. Embrace it.

All these people are going age, but the world will never know what they really look like! How unsettling must it be to see all of the glowing photos of yourself….and then see the reality in the mirror!😮

You are so right…. I am 57 and really do look well for my age (just comparing myself to others around me I know personally) but last week in Sephora I truly did see kids who were the age of my possible grandkids (if I had any) running around and later had a discussion with my hairdresser (in her 30’s) about how social media is influencing these kids to feel like they aren’t “good enough” as they are and/or need to use stuff to prevent aging lol. Can’t wait to see where this is going to end, unfortunately. And now the poor Catherine, Duchess of Windsor has been forced to come out and discuss her private medical challenges to the world because everyone was speculating ridiculous things like maybe she’d had plastic surgery because of her age. It’s all so sad.

It is so important to speak about these things. I'm over 50 now and I'm not saying it is easy getting older. I wish my skin was firmer and I had no wrinkles under my eyes etc. But do I need a surgery or would I change something in my face? Absolutely NO. I wouldn't be myself and I definitely don't want to look like everybody else - like a uniform for the face. I'm unique! When you look into a mirror and you're struggling with yourself, smile! That changes everything 🎉

This is a wonderful post, especially for people who have not yet learned to be comfortable in their own skin. It took me decades to get to that point. I think these days it's so important for impressionable people to know that they don't need to look like a Kardashian or some other famous person in order to be beautiful. I learned long ago that I was never going to be a willowy, leggy model (I'm 4 foot 11 inches). I knew I had to work with what I was given and be the best me I could be. That's when we can truly let our own beauty shine through and can learn to be happy with ourselves. You are a person whose inner beauty shines through, and your sense of humor never fails to brighten my day.

It was the coolest and newest thing I had ever heard of or seen. It made my picture look fantastic and my eyes just popped! That was about ten years ago and now everyone has access to ring lights. Seriously?! Now everyone can do the same things as a professional photographer. Crazy!

I have to say, I have never felt pressure or judgement from a single man in my life when it comes to aging and my looks. It has ALL come from women in my life and in the spotlight. We need to stop being so insecure in ourselves and comparing ourselves to others. It’s hard aging it really is, but why do we care so much what other people think? That is rhetorically, btw

As a creator, it is definitely sobering to see that the accounts that receive the most views, most clicks, and most retention are the ones that have picture, perfect studio, lighting, and (maybe?) filters. As humans we are naturally drawn to what is pleasing to the eye, and in many cases, we feel like that person is more professional and their opinion is more legit. I hear from people that they want to see authentic and natural content, but that unfortunately is not reflected in the data, and I rarely see creators filming in natural light, and showing their faces very close to see the texture and imperfections. Not sure if this will change unless, like you said, consumers curate their feeds. Creators will continue to follow the real preferences of consumers and that is measured in views, clicks, etc. Its sad but true.

This is such an important discussion Charlotte, thank you for covering it! We don’t love our “natural” selves anymore. Now that we “the common people,” can access plastic surgery like the rich and famous, and can tap into face altering filters. It’s funny, I NEVER play the guess my age game🤭. Cause honestly, I don’t know and don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. I just tell my patients I can see your age on my chart, and you look great! Nope, not playing that game🙅🏽‍♀️. I’m afraid for the generation, what will any of this look like in a decade or two?!?😳. I shudder to think.. Ps.! Loving this blue eye and warm skin look💙💙💙

EXCELLENT topic! It's SO important to be happy with who we are internally and that glow will show outside. I totally agree, we all have beauty, all looks, shapes and sizes! Thank you. I don't use a filter at all. I do like creative filters for color or splashing a glitter overlay but no photo shopping or filters for looks. It's very sad that people do this now. I love natural looking people. Just about every beauty product has an anti-aging focus and in reality beauty needs to be PRO-aging because as we age, every day is a gift and a blessing. I will be 65 in July and I am excited about it. That's my goal, to help women embrace who they are at every age.
