It’s difficult to see who’s real anymore. People are being paid to type disagreeing statements.😮
My older son (who’s almost 30 now) had a gaming channel in high school and he would show me the mean comments sometimes. I couldn’t believe how horrible people could be. I asked him how he could stand to read them and he’d just explain that they were haters or trolls and it didn’t bother him. That’s the reason I’ve never had even the slightest desire to be on social media. I guess my skin is too thin 😟. Great video!

Wow I learned a lot! I had no idea about any of this stuff. I wasn’t raised in the internet age ( I’m 72) but I can’t believe people say such rude things. I was raised to think if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything! Love your channel Charlotte ❤
I am really shocked at how some influencers pump up their numbers! I guess I’m just naive😏! I adore your videos and your honesty, Charlotte. Please keep sharing information about beauty and some darker stories!

I also was surprised by how they work the system. I'm going to remember that little hack in the future.
I can’t understand why someone would write negative stuff on someone like you especially you exude fun and lLovely vibe.., your video always puts me in a good mood ❤
I fully understand the blocking of cumulative comments. I've started doing that on my FB with even longtime "friends" because like you said, it's my space to express myself. If you don't like what I think about something just scroll on by but I'm old enough now to realize I don't need toxic comments or things that bring me down. And I especially don't like sarcasm or people claiming they're being funny when it's really just mean under the cover of humor.
@jbbb7418

Please Don’t forget how easy it is to misinterpret the written word. Some people just can not express themselves well, or communicate well in writing. There have been many times, I have looked back at my own comments or texts that I thought were saying one thing, then looked back or received a weird response and thought, well, I wrote that poorly didn’t I? I think part of that is the rush rush of life. It is disheartening on both ends.

I get it! One time I got into a really bad car accident and I was SO sad. I posted on my FB about it and this guy shows up out of no where to talk down to me about the situation and how it’s most likely my fault on and on. But that wasn’t the only time, he’d left one or two hurtful things before. So I blocked him. He was really upset and tried to contact me about it! Sometimes I miss MySpace 😅
@Diana-qp2rw

@@jbbb7418Yes! I also believe that if you post your opinion and someone comments their own differing opinion, that’s not a reason to block if they are trying to have a civil discussion or just want to show you a different perspective. After all, you yourself wanted to share your opinion, why shouldn’t other people share theirs, too? Having conversations and exchanging different views, instead of always scrolling by unless you want to express agreement, can be a huge win for all of us and we might be wiser at the end if the day. That being said, if someone only wants to pick a fight all the time, I block people like that, too. But I think we should always ask how they meant what they wrote if it’s not obvious that they just wanted to fight. Like you said, written words can often be misunderstand. For example, I once wrote “I see where you’re coming from” meaning “I can understand why you have this point of view” (though I disagreed), and the other person thought I meant where they geographically came from and was mad and thought I was racist. Luckily, I had the chance to explain what I really meant and we could continue our conversation.
Thank you, especially for the "purposely not answering comments'! I was just watching several youtube short and it drove me nuts that the creator didn't show the product information. Now I know!!
You nailed it! And I couldn’t misspell on purpose. It would kill me. 😂

Hannah Alonzo goes into depth on her channel about influencers doing this! Thanks for bringing it to the forefront. There’s a lot of people that don’t know this. Love your channel. 👍🏼
I'm constantly amazed that people use their energy to negativity instead of positivity support and brigthen one's day. Creators are humans too that have struggles and it cost us nothing to be kind and supportive. If you have nothing nice to say it's better to say nothing at all. Anyways love you Charlotte thanks for bringing those matters to surface. ♥
Hi Charlotte! This was very enlightening! It’s sad that people feel anonymous enough behind their screens to be hurtful and negative. My Dad always told me that if I couldn’t say something nice, not to say anything at all. Excellent advice, that I’m always mindful to follow. It makes it a pleasant place for everyone. Excellent video. I loved it 😊
Growing up is realizing other people aren't looking for your 'constructive criticism'. When I was a teenager I genuinely thought I was cool and helpful.

Very interesting. Personally, while I can understand blocking people who make you feel bad, no matter what their intentions are (I’ve done that on Facebook, even with people who were very nice to me, but just extremely pushy, or people who posted stuff that was harmful to me personally. However, I do think it’s problematic when very big accounts just block anyone they don’t want there for whatever reason or when they restrict certain words or comments. Sometimes, more critical comments are so helpful to other viewers (e.g. make them think twice if a product is really that good or if they really need it, if something actually works, etc.) or they even raise awareness on an issue the influencer tries to deflect from (like spreading misinformation, exploiting your children for content, scamming the viewers, etc.). That’s why I urge everyone to look for more information when really big influencers always only have very positive comments. It doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad, but looking for some more information elsewhere might be a good idea.

Absolutely agree with you. I have been commenting and interacting with creators for the last 10 years and recently had a horrible experience where I respectfully praised a creator’s video and I left a suggestion for what I wanted to see next. However, I was berated heavily for my constructive feedback and told to leave the channel because I was not worthy of their videos. I eventually reported the comments as it’s OK for people to disagree, but it’s not OK for the creator to be disrespectful when interacting with the audience who has different opinions. I think this type of issue goes both ways, so I’m not sure if the current system offers the best solution for this issue.
As a guest in your "home" I love your chanel and I am glad you keep it "clean" and free of bad coments. Thank you ❤ It should be obvious to respect each other, but people online think they can say whatever they want without any consequences.
I think you are an absolute delight! You have to protect yourself and your mental health!
When it comes to blocking, creators have a right to not be harassed on their social media. You’re not being denied free-speech, because you also can create content and enjoy getting harassed for your opinions. Don’t forget, whatever percentage of the population is mentally unstable, there will be that percentage among influencers. Some of it might be strategic, but plenty will be unstable people doing unpredictable, strange things for no logical reason.
The cumulative negativity block is so true. I like to share my life on social media, and when I had a really rough year due to trauma I really noticed the ppl who are always negative. I could literally end a post with "This is just stupid fun because I'm sad, please don't offer constructive criticism" and some ppl would still go at it and not apologize when I pointed out that instruction. Like yes I get that I can't control others, but if you're gonna be on my social media commenting on my life as someone I know in real life... Have some manners. As you said, this is my house, act like a guest or leave.
Omg this video was eye-opening 😳 Charlotte i love your videos, and they just keep getting better and better. I wouldn't dream of telling a creator, "i don't like that on you." i may think I'm not sure about that shade, but i just say nothing. You know the saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then say nothing." Charlotte, if you do know where i live, you can come around any time 😂

This is a great video! People should respect boundaries.
My poor mom at the start of her dementia started leaving negative and rude comments on her favorite instagram influencers. She eventually got blocked by almost all. I felt so bad for the influencers! Mute is a great thing. It's more appropriate for mildly annoying versus abusive. But yeah, never messing with you....though it would be hilarious if you turned up at my door to tell me off! 🤣
Not gonna lie I can understand why your husband loves discussing the cumulative blocks, lol! We all have those people in our lives, work places, even families sometimes! We need some kind of a real life block feature 😂. I always remind myself that super negative people are almost universally unhappy, and it is themselves, not their targets, with whom they have issues. But by all means, block away! Protect your garden! Tend upur zen!!! Fun video !

Thank you, Charlotte - “be kind” is a great message. I think the anonymity of social media gives people a sense there are no boundaries and/or consequences regarding our voice of words and how we use them. Love you content and you look fabulous ❣️❣️

I just want to say thank you for always listing your nail polish and clothing in the description box so I never have to ask ☺I've heard all these secrets except the tricking us into engagement by withholding. Also saw another creator say that influencers make a higher commission off of products sold within the first week of launch. She said that's why a lot of their "first impressions" are always positive but they say they will have to update us later in their monthly favorites and that's when we get their real thoughts. Is that true? I do try to comment on every video watched as an added way to thank someone for their content, even though some say they only read the comments within the first hour and I know it may not be seen. Glad to know that's not true for you. ♥
I can’t understand how people can comment mean statements. They would never or I hope would never talk to someone face to face like that. Thank you for your positivity and sharing this information. ❤
@omegasobsessions
Ай бұрын
I honestly think part of this is that many creators say things like “what do you think? Let me know in the comments.” Which is also a trick to up engagement, so someone says to themselves, well, they asked so (insert *I don’t like that* comments) so in some cases it isn’t purely being mean for sport. Also some leave open ended questions that DRAW criticism as a mean comment is still a comment and engagement makes the algorithm happy. Back when you could see the downvotes so people used them it WAS STILL ENGAGEMENT so still “helped” the video.
I loved this video. I know you explaining Internet and social media etiquette but I feel like this really applies to all of life's aspects. I'm a person who really tries to raise above and stay positive. It's really hard in a world full of negativity. When you cut out the negative life is just a bit easier to navigate 😊. Thank you for your content, I just started following you but really enjoy it.
This is great info, thanks! I'd never heard anyone going into the details like this before.
I’m glad there are many options for you as a creator. I often cringe reading the nasty comments to people make and smile when I see them disappear!
Well, that was informative! I don’t understand any need to be disrespectful. If I see something I’m not a fan of, I keep it to myself. And now I’m afraid I’ll use a blocked word 😂😂😂
I thought I was pretty well versed in this stuff, but you taught me a TON today! Thank you for going in depth and giving examples. It was very eye-opening. Thanks for being such a fun and informative content creator!
This was fascinating! Thank you.

Great video, Charlotte! Thank you for your own slice of positivity on KZread!
Thank you Charlotte, this is so insightful. Also explains the videos where influencers talk about a foundation and never mention the shade. Love your videos and your sense of humour. Looking forward to your next one. ❤
Love your videos! I watch almost all. Found you through Lisa Eldridge reviews years ago. Very interesting what you explain about social media. And yes, I agree, it is your space, so you decide. I am not an influencer, but on my socials I am the same. If a friend writes something negative, I will just delete it, it's my space, and if they want to be negative they can be that in their own space. Love your approach. And the white things in your mouth look so pretty and make you extra beautiful.
Charlotte your content is so interesting. I watch almost all of your videos and I love that you talk about make-up yet a lot of other topics as well. Informative, researched and funny on top! 🖤

Such great information to keep in mind while navigating social media. Thanks, Charlotte!
Hi Charlotte, this was so interesting, and such a unique idea for a video! One thing I don’t understand from creators is when they say “let me know in the comments” and then don’t respond to people. Now after watching this video, I’m guessing they don’t really want to know, but only asked in order to boost engagement. I know they can’t respond to everyone, but often they don’t reply or give a ❤️ to anyone. Also, I’ll never understand mean people, so I’m glad you have ways to protect yourself from nastiness! You’re great Charlotte! ❤️🤗
Absolutely loving the videos you have been doing about influencers, your commentary on social media and popular culture. So eloquently put and thought out. Your make up videos are great too, but I have been loving this change up ❤
Thanks for always being so transparent - it’s something I really value in this space.

Your whole vibe in this video is stunning! Makeup, shirt, style and color... everything! Great video!
Charlotte, im so glad I clicked on this video today. I have a micro account on IG and just this week I *agonized* about blocking someone who I know truly enjoys my content but has regularly, over a span of years, crossed my boundaries and just been a “mood ruiner”. I discussed it with my husband too😅. I feel guilty but I couldn’t tolerate it any longer. Nice to hear you describe this conundrum so clearly!
I’m so glad you all can block the negativity. We all ( all sane reasonable people) know and understand what comments could do to someone’s self esteem or simply the fear of danger from some I’m sure if you couldn’t block them.
You have a beautiful smile! I love that you choose to keep your unique facial characteristics.
Thanks for posting this, Charlotte. 💕 This is one of the best and most informative videos I've seen on KZread. I wish others were as considerate as you are trying to keep scammers and haters (aka "baddies") away from your subscribers. I have been with you since you first started on KZread and you shared your love of makeup with us. Commenting to increase engagement :) Great content, as always. Thank you for being you. ❤
So informative! Thanks for sharing! Love you and your channel!! 🤗
I once got to work with this group of exchange students from Turkey, and they were literally the best group I’ve ever gotten to work with. But there was one girl who was tall and brunette, and so beautiful inside and out. Her skin tone was actually more on the 🍊 side and that was her natural tan! She confided to us that she was actually blonde, but died her hair brown because she felt that her blonde hair did not match her skin tone. She didn’t mind if people thought her hair color was not real, but it did bother her greatly if people were not OK with her skin tone. That really made me sad for her. Her brown hair was so so so pretty. I could only imagine how gorgeous her blonde hair was. But that is an actual person that actually exist! And I never understand why people cannot just take something at face value. For myself, I am blonde, and I have no heritage in my blood that allows me to tan. I will just burn. That means that I am from very blonde countries. Think Viking! Think anything Europe! But no matter what I still have people around me in my real life trying to catch me in some lie about where I’m getting my hair bleached. My eyebrows are blonde. My eyelashes are blonde which, actually you can’t fake that, you cannot fake blonde eye lashes. I seriously do not prefer myself without mascara, but I will show up sometimes, with no mascara just so that people can stop talking for a little while. It becomes such a burden. I really wish people would just lighten up, if they think that something is not real why go so hard on it?

This was a fascinating and informative video Charlotte! I’ve never understood why people leave mean and hateful comments on someone’s channel. I loved what you said “Freedom of Speech does not mean freedom of consequences” I’ve followed Sam March for years and years. Actually, that metaphor isn’t exactly accurate. It’s more like people being in their business place. This is a business most influencers have created to make money, and it’s a product that they produce. (besides a few that do it as a hobby for fun, which are rare)
Very informative! Thank you for explaining! ❤
This was so educational ❤️ Misery loves company and the internet has made that way too easy.
