Yngwie Malmsteen is "The Maestro". A Virtuoso. A pioneer of the guitar Neoclassical shredding and composing. You'll be surprised that every other famous guitarist, especially of the old school, knows who Malmsteen is and they have great respect for him - Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Michael Romeo, Paul Gilbert, just to name a few. Some of them were actually inspired by him and provoked to step up their game. Here's some fun facts. Satriani once said about Malmsteen: "Joe Satriani: Yngwie Malmsteen loves to play guitar, and he's really good at it. I know this from personal experience. I've stood right next to him on many a stage, shoulder to shoulder, trading solos, celebrating our influences, taking chances, playfully testing each others limits and putting on a great show for our fans. At the end of every performance I was sure of two things: Yngwie is an amazing guitarist, and that there is only one Yngwie Malmsteen. Let's face it, every guitarist wishes they could do what he does with those six strings and a pick, but what he does is not only super human, it is undeniably unique and original too. There are imitators, some with equal proficiency, but none that can match the heart and the confidence behind his virtuosity. The last time we played together was at Marshall's 50th Anniversary Concert at Wembley Arena in London on September 22nd, 2012, and I think it was the best I'd ever heard him play. Yes, he's getting better! I was on stage just behind the curtain warming up with my guitar as I listened to Yngwie enthrall the audience with his impeccable and furious technique. But it's his passion for music that really lights everyone up in the audience up. It's the fire burning in those hands that make every note scream. He puts all of who he is, no excuses, no apologies, into every note and every sound he makes on his guitar. There is only one Yngwie Malmsteen." A few things that Vai said about Malmsteen during the years: “I’ve known Yngwie since he came to America,” he replies, “and I think that people are intimidated by his confidence. He’s so confident in what he does that maybe he comes off as cocky sometimes. I think to know Yngwie is to really, really like him, but to not know him is to think maybe he’s pretty self-centred.” "Yngwie - we go back, geez, 35 years? Something like that. He was in that band Alcatrazz and when he left I wound up joining and replacing him. So we were always running into each other and we actually became friends. We’ve been supporting each other through the years, and then I toured with him on the G3 tour. And it was fantastic. Then when this came along, I reached out to him and he was really very interested. So we have all known each other, some more personally than others but now it’s a team." "I know Yngwie and I know how intense he is. Yngwie doesn't compromise. There are no excuses. He plays the way he feels is appropriate for him. He's got a lot of energy and a lot of passion. When you're going to work with someone like Yngwie you've gotta know this and you've gotta let them just cut loose and do his thing, you know? Some nights it was more than others. When you accept that you can enjoy it. The jam at the end, everybody knows what's going on. You let him do his thing and there are a lot of people that find it very entertaining and very cool. So, there's that :)

It was always very cool how Malmsteen was able to combine classical music with heavy metal music that inspired many of us guitar player to make an attempt at it. Your reaction was awesome and it was the same as mine 1st time seeing Malmsteen in concert. It made me want to go home and burn all my guitars LMFAO~! Also check out Eddie Van Halen guitar solo in concert cuz he dabbled with it as well that seemed to be a wild thing for guitarist to get into during that time. Cheers!

@@WitchesBlackMasses : No. The three I mentioned took technical mastery and innovation to another level during their time. No one else had or could play like them when they first came out. The same can't be said of Rhoads. He was a great composer, but not a unique guitarist from a technical perspective. In fact, on the 1977/78 Quiet Riot albums he was nondescript. And a story has it that he was devastated when he went to see a Van Halen show. So basically, Van Halen was the impetuous for Rhoads kicking it up a notch. I believe Rhoads gets the hype simply because he died tragically in his prime.

"Jimi Hendrix used to do that"... No. Jimi never did anything like that. Many people, when asked who the greatest guitar player of all time is, would say Jimi... and I laugh because it's very obvious none of them have ever heard of Yngwie J. Malmsteen, hands down the greatest neo-classical composer/guitarist of all time. I like that you enjoyed this dude. Yngwie has many performances you would fall in love with. Icarus Dream Suite Op. 4, Prelude/Toccata...
