lovett is looking good this year
Overtime reminds me so much of the Yianni McKenna NCAA final. Not the final movement in the takedown itself, but the rabbit he pulled out of his hat in order to get to Lovett’s legs off of Lovetts counter shot. Three things make him succeed in all 3 of his overtime NCAA matches . 1- he has ice in veins. Calm, cool, collective 2- He is a magician…imagination = 2nd to none. 3- Zero hesitation. He hits these insane moves without even thinking about it.

You nailed it! He’s something special! It was incredible seeing how much he improved between this match and their championship match tonight. Yanni looked otherworldly today!

Much simpler than that, KS....the kid has nuts.
sorry - ref is out of his league. Stall in 32 second into match with multiple shots and stale mate in the middle of an active scramble. SMH

Lovett's reversal at 9:12 is absolutely ridiculous
Ridge is the man to watch. That kid is exciting. Super impressed he got into OT with Yianni. Yianni's wrestling iq is 2nd to none however.

Second to none? Huh? Maybe you mean in NCAA at this weight and at this time. Yianni struggling beyond NCAA and not looking particularly strong in it.

@@dormilon36 well, he won the Poland open this year; he won the US world team trials; and lost to an Armenian in the Worlds. Generally speaking, yes, I'd say his iq is 2nd to none even at the Senior level.

@@dormilon36 did I say that? First off I was commenting on this video regarding the ncaa's. But when u get to the Senior level, he isnt a slouch. He beaten high level guys at this level.....when people say "2nd to none" that doesnt mean he is unbeatable or perfect. If I said the same about Burroughs, u gonna have a fit and say Dake beat him? I was making a compliment on how technical and intelligent yianni is.
What a match. Two great wrestlers.
Not sure what lovett has been putting in his oatmeal but I hope he keeps it in his meal plan! This was a great match and a potential glimpse at the ncaa championships

Awesome match, YD a magician
I feel like the officiating sucked in the first period. Very early doubtful stall call and a super quick stalemate call when Lovett was getting close to finishing the takedown. I don't know; either way I think Yianni wins this match-up 9 out of 10 times.
@jimstephens7518
2 жыл бұрын
Well put. In the 1st period, when Lovett had that crossface and broke Yianni's grip, I thought this might be the 1 time out of 10 that Ridge won. Felt like that stalemate shut down his best opportunity from the feet.
@diegopons4622
2 жыл бұрын
@@jimstephens7518 Exactly. Yianni is so good that his opponents always have to wrestle a perfect match just to have a chance at beating him. It's also not the first time that the officials have been kind to him. Remember that bogus takedown in the finals vs McKenna to take the match to OT. 🙄
@Slapthematwrestling

The stall call is just because of the somewhat recent NCAA rule change having to do with out of bounds which forces an official to call it. So just like in this case, if a wrestler dives in on a shot and the other wrestler sprawls and goes out of bounds, they have to call it stalling. I don’t always agree with it, but those are the rules. Yianni did take all the shots in the match up until overtime however. There were several, several stalemates called after Yianni was deep in on shots. That was a result of Lovett’s excellent defense and scrambling ability. These guys will always be fun to watch wrestler each other, that’s for sure!
@diegopons4622
2 жыл бұрын
@@Slapthematwrestling I agree with that. I just think that Lovett already has such a tall mountain to climb vs Yanni that any kind of interference from the referee makes it virtually impossible for an upset to happen. I can live with the first stall call, even if I don't agree with it. But I cannot accept the stalemate call in the first period. Ridge was moving in on breaking Yanni's grip and the referee in my opinion clearly interfered in that sequence. I can't accept that these are the best referees available for D1 wrestling.
THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING
Yianni is such a complete wrestler. Such a deep bag of tricks and technique. In my opinion the only person who can beat Yianni is Yianni.
Yianni isn't in shape at all. Later in the season he's going to be unbeatable.
stalemate and stalling calls gettin real questionable tho
Beautiful roll through wtf!!!!!🔥🔥🔥
Yanni looked tired, then “asked” for a challenge just to sit for 45 seconds. #Strats

When one wrestler takes 6 very deep shots in a match and the other wrestler does not take any (Lovett’s only real shot in on Yianni was in overtime) of course one wrestler will be much more tired than the other. Not to mention, at the end when he is working for that reversal on top of Lovett while he is just laying there hanging on with his arms locked. I am not taking anything away from Lovett’s outstanding defense, his outstanding gramby reversal, or his game plan in keeping the match close. I do however think that it’s crazy to insinuate that Yianni wasn’t in good enough shape. That’s never been an issue with him.
great effort by both guys

Hey there w I have recently been introduced to wrestling but I don't find much fun in the sport since I've already tasted the rules is there a way for me to find fun in wrestling? My opponents are much larger then me and the rules set me back quite a bit if there's any information that someone can give to curve ball this wall then I would appreciate it as it's something I wish to learn how to get around.

lovett looking amazing. yianni is just on a different level than anyone already
That should have been a stall call point. Lovett had already been warned for stalling right…?
Stalling called for being driven out of bounds on your feet but allow riding time!!! No sense at all.
YD is a freak at scrambling. 99% of wrestlers would have been done with deep shot on them in OT.
Crazy match
For the announcer on this video: the abbreviation "vs" is not pronounced "verse." Not ever. It is an abbreviation of "versus" and it is always pronounced "versus."

I dont think he respected Lovett, hence, the shots from space. In Yiannis head he knows he, himself, is a 2x national champion while Lovett is not even an all American. Just my opinion.

@@Tdinh79 that's a fair opinion but no wrestler will be indifferent towards or disrespectful to another wrestler at the D-I level. that sounds like complacency and it's not Yianni's style.
