*Corrections Whoops, accidentally said "2012" instead of "2002" regarding Funtastic World's closure, so please forgive the blunder. I must have also had Disney on the brain because I repeatedly said "Phantom Manor" instead of "Phantom Theatre". Then again, it wouldn't be a Yesterworld video if I didn't read at least one date and/or name incorrectly from the script ;)

I got a story for you, pal. I went to Universal Orlando during my high school freshman year in Spring 2005. You see, my mom died from leukemia and my dad started a fund dedicated to her. And we made enough to go to Florida for Spring Break because my Uncle Donald was living there at the time. Ever since I saw the Universal Studios Florida ad from the VHS release of Jetsons: The Movie, it was my childhood dream to go there as a family. Alas, my dream came with a price. At least we got to go there and Walt Disney World before the New Fantasyland change. And we (my dad, sister, and myself) went to the Jimmy Neutron attraction, had fun, and met SpongeBob. And the guy who got defeated is Ooblar's brother, King Goobot.

As someone who's home park is King's Island, this really put a smile on my face. Hanna Barbara land growing up was amazing. The carousel was even themed to the characters, how cool is that? I had always heard about the smurf ride growing up. It's neat to be able to see videos of it. I think it's because of that ride we still call the iconic King's Island blue ice cream "smurf ice cream." As for Phantom Theater, I really loved it as a kid. It was an obvious rip off of the haunted mansion but it was nice as a kid having something so close to disney that I could go to whenever I pleased. I've always hated the scooby doo version as well as boo blasters. Thanks for this video!!

Also, forgot to mention a story about the Wild Thornberries ride. I'll never forget, it was during Fear Fest/Halloween Haunt and we were walking in that area. I must have been relatively young anyway my dad had walked off a bit of distance ahead of me. Anyway there's an elephant towards the end of the ride that would spray out water. I was walking through the dark, in the fog. The ride it's self wasn't actually operating. As i'm walking by the ride on the path, the elephant goes off! I think I ran to my dad right away. I didn't get wet or anything, the distance was too far. Still scared the hell out of me. I was always leery of the elephant afterwards.

I’m only 17, so I obviously couldn’t experience it, but my home park is King’s Island too, and my since both my parents grew up here too, they’ve told stories of Hanna Barbara land, especially the ride featured here, and I’ve seen videos and it seems like something that really would’ve been fun! I’d never heard of the smurfs ride, or the haunted mansion rip off (or if I had I’ve forgotten), but those seem interesting too. I’ve unfortunately only been able to go to KI a handful of times, since it’s so expensive, and I’ve only known that ride as the current boo blasters (though I’ve only been on it once when I was maybe 10 or 11, I didn’t even want to go on it it scared me so much, oops). Rambling aside, I love learning about the park’s history!

  • @cherryskies2091

Not only Hanna Barbara Land but I think King's Island as a whole during that time was amazing. I know people love Cedar Fair as a company but King's Island when it was owned by Paramount was top tier. I would highly look into Tomb Raider: The ride or even Italian Job/Stunt Coaster/Whatever it's called today. They watered Tomb Raider down from being one of the best themed rides outside of Florida and eventually ruined it. They're basically doing the same with the Stunt Coaster ride. It's a big shame you weren't able to experience King's Island during that time. Cedar Fair might do coasters right but they can't theme things to save their souls.

I've never been to King's Island, but I live in Texas and we have a Six Flags I like to go to for Halloween that used to have a "sister" to that Scooby-Doo ride. I LOVED it! I don't deal well with thrill rides and I love Scooby-Doo, so that was the only thing I could ride at the park... Unfortunately, they closed our Scooby ride last year. TTnTT I was really sad to hear it.

I actually went through Nickelodian: Outta Control when I was a kid! That was a weird attraction. I remember one room where as far as I can remember we were supposed to just run around making noise in various ways, and another with funny mirrors that I think had something to do with Aaah Real Monsters characters. Then at the end they made you pose for various photos like one where everyone in your group was meant to be picking their nose. I'd be fascinated to see what remains of it some day!

Boo blasters brings back such good memories for me. Thats where I faced my fears as a young child at the phantom manor in 2002, really bonded with my siblings when shooting ghosts on the scooby doo ride, and kissed the woman I would marry for the first time in boo blasters in 2011. Kings island is amazing.

I live just outside San Antonio TX where we have Six Flags Fiesta Texas, we had a ride that looks like it was an almost exact replica of Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle (except it was called Scooby-Doo GhostBlasters) that closed earlier this year, due to losing the Hanna-Barbera rights, and is now being turned into what sounds like a Pirates of the Caribbean knock-off.

I first drove past the Flintstones theme park in Arizona in 1996. Even then, it didn't look worth visiting. It's only real advantage is being on the road north to the Grand Canyon, but usually the parents aren't going to listen to kids who want to pull over to visit it...or teachers and field trip bus drivers, for that matter...if the destination is the Grand Canyon.

ThePoketea Is that a euphemism? Lol. It was like a lower quality dark water ride (ala a Disney attraction) where you travel through a Smurf village, with the Smurfs flying kites, picking flowers, just generally having fun. You encountere a giant Gargamel and Azriel plotting to capture the Smurfs and you hear the iconic Smurf theme throughout. Imagine “It’s a Small World” with lower quality animatronic Smurfs. But when I was a kid? Magical.

I went to the Bedrock City in Arizona in 2007, when I was 6 years old. It was completely abandoned aside from my family and a couple of workers. There was only one working ride and it was really dark and bumpy. Not to mention it was Arizona in June and nothing was air conditioned. It felt like a ghost town and was by far one of the creepiest experiences of my childhood. I will never forget it.

I went to the Carowinds Nickelodeon Themepark in about 2005. It's now Camp Snoopy. I was a fan of Nickelodeon, however, I like the Snoopy theme better because it showed Cedar Point really spent good money trying to improve it. With the Nick rides, they pretty much got a coat of paint and new signage and that's all. They were going to build a Nick themepark in New Orleans after Katrina but that fell through.

I think the most interesting abandoned/removed Hanna Barbara attraction is probably the Banana Splitsville in what used to be the former Hard Rock Amusement park in Myrtle beach which only lasted one year because the amusement park closed a year after it opened it is probably the weirdest relaunch of a Hanna Barbara show I have ever seen.

I watched and loved EVERYTHING except the live action shows. :) I would get up, watch Powerpuff Girls or Tiny Toon Adventures, tune in to Rugrats for lunch or maybe Doug, watch Scooby Doo or Aaahhh!!! Real Monsters with dinner and then watch a little Owl Jolsen or Flintstones before bed just about every day. XD

I had blocked this event from my memory until today.. anyways it was SO cheezy, I could tell even as a young kid but this was at the end of its life so I'm sure in its heyday it had more to do, like I dont even remember there being any rides when I went.

Great video! Thanks for incorporating a couple clips from my videos too, and for highlighting some under-appreciated Kings Island rides. I had a couple quick minor corrections. Nothing major, but worth noting: 9:32 - Where did you get the $300 million value for Kings Island from? The park was built at a cost of $29 million in 1972, which is still only ~$176 million adjusted for inflation 10:50 - You say Phantom Manor, but I'm sure that was just a slip and you meant to say Phantom Theater 12:46 - You say Boulder Bumpers was a day-one attraction at Kings Island in 1983, but Kings Island opened in 1972 and Boulder Bumpers in 1977. A bit later, you mentioned it was transformed into Jimmy Neutron's Atom Blasters with Nickelodeon Central. That didn't actually happen until Nickelodeon Universe, which was a replacement of Hanna-Barbera Land and Nickelodeon Central in 2006. The picture of Joe Cool Dodgem School is also Cedar Point's version, but the two do look very similar. Again, nothing major, but wanted to clarify a few facts. Thanks again for the great video! Edit - Oops, one more... 14:04, you mentioned Runaway Reptar became Snoopy vs. Red Baron. It actually became Flying Ace Aerial Chase - Snoopy vs. Red Baron is a very small Zamperla flat-ride, which was previously Blue's Skdioo (and Dick Dastardly's Biplanes before that).

First of all, so glad you enjoyed the video! I admit, outside Disney and Universal I am really out of my element, but I'm using this as a lesson for the future. 1. As far as where I got the $300 million value, though in hindsight I see how I should have phrased it differently, I was referring to the current estimation of the parks investments. 2. Yup you are absolutely right, for some reason I read "Phantom Theatre" as "Phantom Manor" during my VO, I think I had Disney too much on my brain as I have it correctly written in the script. 3. I really don't have an excuse for this, I thought I had the information right but evidently I did not :( 4. Now I'm just embarrassed....

I visited Bedrock City in South Dakota and it was one of the strangest experiences of my life. The show was still going okay, though the audio was way too loud, and the Park was essentially deserted, though in pretty good shape overall. The food places were all closed, with the main event being the gift shop or the Flintstone cars, which were driven by attendants and smelled like really powerful gas fumes. I also remember going through the giant snake tunnel seen at 5:06 and having a minor panic attack due to claustrophobia brought on by the very skinny and very long tunnel. I don't think any other attractions were operating when I went, but it was ome of the weirdest and most memorable parts of my trip aside from, y'know, Mount Rushmore.
