It’s surreal to me that in just 4 weeks time, I will take my first steps back into Kings Island, flanked by my friends after 18 long years, and having lost 115 lbs. I’ve worked hard to get here, and I’m ready to experience the park once again, this time as a Cedar Fair park. I love watching this documentary to get my hyped up for one of my favorite places to go when I was young. I may be older, but after 18 long years, my time has finally come. ❤️

@@rdm3815amazing. My first ride was on Flight of Fear (I know, why not Orion or Diamondback, but those came later on) and when I went on the ride back in 2005, I got ejected off the ride because the restraint could not safely close. This time, it fit perfectly and I felt redeemed. In fact, I even screamed “Sweet Revenge!” as the ride shot me in. I would ride every coaster except the coasters in Planet Snoopy, Invertigo (because I don’t like going backwards on rollercoasters) and Adventure Express as it was still being worked on for Adventure Port. Diamondback became my favorite coaster for Kings Island, unseating Flight of Fear. The day ended fantastic and I look forward to going back next year.

When I was growing up, I found myself spending at least one day every year down at Kings Island. As I went into the 90s and my teens, it became the pinnacle of my summertime when I would make my way down to Kings Island. After 2005, I found myself physically unable to go back to Kings Island after gaining so much weight. I knew that I would be unable to ride rollercoasters because of it, and it depressed me because of how much I loved it. This year, with many reasons for me to do so, I began a journey to make significant weight loss, and in the span of 4 months, I lost 75 lbs, dropping from 325 down to 250, and I am continuing my weight loss journey as well. I’ve already decided to go back to Kings Island, even though I’m now in my 40s. I am so excited to go back to Kings Island , even if it’s my last time to go ride rollercoasters. I have loved this documentary, as it covers the history of this legendary park, who has had such a history in my past. Chris, you did a great job with this documentary, and you gave it such comprehensive coverage. I’ve been a subscriber for a long time now, and your videos are great. Just goes to show that people named Chris, just are as awesome as you might think. -Chris Parson

Hey man! Congrats on the weight loss!! You should be very proud of that!! I myself have gone from about 305 down to 225. I'm 58, but still very interested in riding coasters. My issue currently is not having the $$ to travel to parks. Also, I live in Winnipeg, Canada, and my closest park is Valleyfair in Minneapolis - about a 7 hour drive away!

This video showed up in my recommended videos and I'm so happy it did!! I grew up in West Chester, OH close to the Mason border and KI was 10 minutes away from my house. It was the early-mid 90's and I will always remember the excitement I felt in my stomach when I saw my mom putting her "mom shorts" and fanny pack on because I knew we were going to KI that day. My very first job when I was 16 was a photo booth attendant at Vortex (RIP). I spent all of my teen summer years at the park every day. Watching this made me feel warm and fuzzy, nostalgic and also made me cry. KI is forever my home park and my happy place. Now I get to take my daughter and have her enjoy the park too as I still live in the greater Cincinnati area. Thank you for making this incredible documentary!!!!

She tried again that same scenario at 12 when I wanted to ride the twin racer; again I won and got to ride. Anyhow a very well put together documentary of now my favorite park in Ohio. While once Cedar Point, we are now complete with our Giga coaster, Orion and I can save my gas and a 4 hour drive. At 61, I'm still up for a thrill.👍

Glad to see they want to go back in time with some attractions. All of us kids on our street would save our money all year long. We would pick a day and a parent would drop us off a half hour before the park opened and when we paid and went through the gates...we ran screaming and yelling with joy. If we split into groups we would make sure to be at the eiffel at 12 and 3. My dad would be waiting in the lot to pick us up after a long crazy fun day. Oh glory days they were. I first heard of Kings Island from a thread in the Sonic X forum in the 4kids TV website as a kid, on a post where a kid won a giant Sonic plushie there. I was so jealous and wanted to go to there at least once. Considering parts of the Banana Splits title sequence was filmed in Coney Island, guess it only made sense to give Kings Island a bit of a Hanna-Barbera theme. Other parts of the title sequence was also filmed at Six Flags Over Texas from what I heard. Wonder how many families recognized the locations when the show came out. 😊

  • @GreatMewtwo

In revisiting the Banana Splits show recently, the credits mention that they did shoot some of the live-action segments at Six Flags Over Texas, and this was late in the 1960s. When Kings Island opened, they were quick to shoot a Banana Splits special there, as Hanna-Barbera and the park itself had common ownership.

It was OK but it did have a major problem with 1 of its turns. The 180 turn before the dual corkscrew was a high speed, sharp, unbanked turn, felt like I was being thrown from the car. Always hurt my back. Otherwise a fun coaster.

Thank you for this great video on the history of Coney Island and Kings Island. I only got to visit one time while I was staying in Cincinnati to go to the Kentucky Derby. I really liked the park and it’s collection of roller coasters. I prefer wooden coasters and was really impressed from riding the Beast. It was a great ride and I loved the length of the ride. I have ridden many wooden coasters around the country and place the Beast as one of my favorite coasters. I am glad to see they have continued to invest in keeping it running and hope to get back to ride it again.

I grew up in KI. I even have the 50 Year keychain. It’s my favorite park of all time. My family has roots in KI. My dad (1974-2018 ❤) loved it growing up in the 80s and all throughout his life. His mom officially took photos of Adventure Express when it opened, she had to climb one of the first hills in a summer dress and heels with 2 cameras. I was born in ‘02 but I do vaguely remember the Nick Branding. Adventure Express used to be my favorite ride before The Vortex took that. Now it’s Flight of Fear. KI is why I love rollercoasters. I could gush about it all day. I love that now KI is starting to do more theming much like how Paramount used to. A lot of new rides like Orin and Mystic Timbers have lore and a good amount of environmental storytelling you can learn while waiting in line. They also are redoing the area around Adventure Express for better thematic storytelling. Im so excited to see what comes next for the park. Plus with The Beast being revamped somewhat with them replacing a lot of old wood and making the classic ride smoother, so it can be enjoyed more. Just thinking about the park makes me happy and giddy. Id gladly go to KI than Disney any day and Ive been to Disney. The staff are great and seem to enjoy their jobs. Once a few years before Vortex closed it was late night at the park and my brother and I were the only two on the ride so we got to do a double ride without even getting off. Some ride operators like to talk to and goof off with those in line. Once in Flight of Fear they once purposely started the coaster when they did an impromptu countdown. They would launch it at different times for people to make the launch more invigorating. Or they would make “in universe” remarks about the rides, like with The Beast they would say sometimes how they heard roaring in the woods or people missing out of seats (obviously fake but it added to the fun. Especially the night rides!!) My family, especially my brother and I, bonded a lot due to KI through hard times. It’s a place that makes me always feel like im 7 again with no cares. Im glad to say that their goal to have a park where worries and stress is left at the gate is realized and living. The food is amazing, music is nice, the events are fun. I cant get enough of it. Hopefully this isnt too ranty, I just love this park obviously. Now to leave you with a quote many regulars like me know by heart: “All clear means you’re up and outta here, have a great day at Kings Island”

They even featured Garfield for a while and converted an old west dark ride to Garfield’s Nightmare until the 2010s when they turned it back to an old west theme.

Lived in Cincinnati from 1983 to 2014.after coming from Holland . Breathed coney island's water park growing up, with my mom and four brothers endless water fun, all day long. Kings island was also a regular summer visit and when paramount took over I applied and worked as security both hot summers daytime, walking around about every square inch of the park and worked 3rd shift, checked ride, building Park alarms checks etc with the park police, (weekends , bonus pay, down season months while attending college in Athens). Your video brought back so many feelings from the past and to them get to 50yrs strong makes me proud to have been part of it as visitor and worker. Thanks for the great 'show", greetings from here my, back to birthplace, Holland!! Rick🇱🇺👋👍🙏
