YELLOWHAMMERS Calling ♫ Singing Song - Emberiza citrinella

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

This video shows many Yellowhammers singing and calling. You will see individuals with varying 'yellow' markings. Some are continental birds having come to the UK for our milder winters.
They are a member of the 'Bunting' family and at the end of this video you will see many Yellowhammers, Corn Buntings, a Reed Bunting and Tree Sparrows all feeding together.
Yellowhammer Facts:
Male Yellowhammers are unmistakeable with a bright yellow head and underparts, brown back streaked with black, and a chestnut rump.
Female Yellowhammers have more of an olive head and overall tone.
They prefer to perch on top of a hedge or bush, singing.
Sadly, with hedgerows and natural habitat loss, in favour of housing developments, their recent population decline makes them a UK Birds of Conservation Concern Red List species.

Indeed, it is such a 'different' (and beautiful) sort of bird to see and hear and it is very sad they are in such decline. I think at some point there should be a law brought in to force farmers to leave a small area of a field (at the very least) to stay wild and never plough it etc. Our Wildlife needs help. Thank you as always for your visit and for your kind comment, my dear friend. 👍◕‿◕

Hello there, the opening scene 'zoom in' to the narrow strip of wild flowers and grasses is the sort of habitat these birds love and forage in, but this is the sort of habitat that is being lost to increasing construction sites and housing developments. Thank you for watching and for your kind wishes, my friend. Have a lovely weekend. 👍◕‿◕

Buntings really do look like canaries. I really like these birds. We don’t have many of them, but some even stay for the winter, although our winters are not very mild. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Hello my friend, although the Yellowhammer numbers swell a little over the winter months, described as 'mild'.... it is still very cold here with most winter days dropping to below freezing. That said, it is probably like the tropics, when compared to yours and others countries, lol. But, it rains here most days! It is the rain that stops me going out, not the cold. It's annoying as I love to be outdoors and I know the birds are out there! Thank you as always and have a lovely weekend, my friend. 👍◕‿◕

Hello my friend, yes, it is very sad that their numbers... and that of many other 'farmland' birds are declining noticeably. I can predict that despite the UK having good 'farming produce growing' weather, we will be importing more and more vegetables over the coming years, as we lose more and more arable land, in favour of the ever growing 'concrete jungle'. Thank you as always, my friend. 👍◕‿◕

@@WildlifeBirdsUK You're absolutely right. It's unfortunate that this trend applies universally. It's disheartening how our environment suffers in the pursuit of "constant" growth. Wildlife suffers first, then it will be our turn!

Hello again Bert, aww, that's sad to learn that the numbers are decreasing there too. Habitat loss is what the World is coming to, to keep up with the ever growing population. It is so sad for the Wildlife & Birds that suffer, as a concequence... but the construction companies only see them as a hiindrance and problem, unfortunately. Thanks again and a HNY to you, my friend. 👍◕‿◕
