YEAR IN REVIEW | The WWF in 1993 (Full Year Documentary)
The Year 1993 brought us a lot of great things, in the world of Television we saw Season 1 of Frasier, in the Film; True Romance first hit theatres, and in the WWF we saw a rollercoaster year full of highs and lows. Yes, if 1992 was the year where the last dying embers of the Hulkamania Era were supposed to have burned out, then 1993 was supposed to represent the shift into a new generation for WWF. And while in many ways this would happen, with smaller, more athletic starts solidifying their spot on top of the card and new weekly TV shows making their debut, sometimes letting go of the past is a hard thing to do. But how did it all happen? Well, join us today as we take a deep dive into the entire story from start to finish in The WWF in 1993: A Year in Review.

These 'Year In Review' videos are tight
1993 was the year the WWF snake shed its 1980s skin and new generation skin revealed underneath. It was also the first “real” year of the 1990s culturally.

1992 still had some 80’s elements. Hair metal was on its last legs that same year. By 1993, even as a little kid. It was already phased out completely by the end of ‘93 or even before then too. I saw very little to no hair metal bands getting any attention at all as late as ‘95.

I believe that The Golden Era ended at King of The Ring 1993 when Hulk Hogan exited WWE, signifying the beginning of the New Generation Era. I definitely see the change when Hogan, Savage, Warrior, and others from that era are phasing out in favoring Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, and Undertaker. This is evident starting in SummerSlam 1992 even though still it had 80s vibes. By 1993, the 80s were definitely gone.
I was born in the early 90s (1991). I am seeing that 1993 being a transitional period between The Golden Era and the upcoming New Generation Era. The change is evident as old favorites are leaving make room for newer stars. I love both eras which still featured Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, and Ted DiBiase while Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Yokozuna, Razor Ramon, and Lex Luger are being established. I believe that the Golden Era ended at King of The Ring 1993 when Hogan exited the company and marks the beginning of the New Generation Era.
In retrospect, Bret showed more respect to the World Wrestling Federation Championship Belt than Hogan ever did.

Damn did y’all see hogan hit that Enzuigiri?😳 I guess he only pulled out moves like that when in Japan because he had about as boring and basic move set as you could get when he wrestled here in our stateside promotions! Big right hands, hip toss, Body slams, Irish whip to clothesline, hulk up, no sell opponents punches, shake head in anger, irish whip to big boot, leg drop of doom, cover 1,2,3. Ladies and gentlemen you have just read the entire move set of the immortal hulk hogan for every match he ever did as face hogan in a US promotion. 🤣🤣. But he was a totally different wrestler when he wrestled in the Japanese promotions.

"Luger drunk in a bar" is not only a myth, it is also - falsely - associated with WMX and not SummerSlam. I am getting the impression that these videos here are low on solid information but quick to dish out judgments. The Women's title wasn't reactivated in 1993 but 1994. But watching now, the Royal Rumble match was nothing but jobbers lol, one of the worst as in star power. @@billblaski9523 WWE has recreated that moment in royal rumble a number of times. Stone Cold & Vince McMahon in 1999 started and ended the rumble together. Orton & Edge started the rumble and ended it together in 2021!
If I recall, only one of the Quebecers (Jacques) was in the Foreign Fanatics team. The 4th guy was Crush. Anyway, the 1991-1994 years were the Golden age years for WWF at least for me. These were the years I recall as a kid getting into pro wrestling along with my brothers. And we were living in Germany at the time and as thus we'd get to see all the WWF wrestling events including pay-per-views for free on AFN. Looking at these videos fills me with nostalgia. And these videos provide some more context as to what was going on with the company that as an 8-year-old I never knew of. Keep up the good work. 👍

Idiots cry when Bret was champ ratings were low. Ratings were like that because of the rest of the company. Him, and the Undertaker were carrying the company with 30 something cornballs noone cared about.
I stopped watching the WWE (then WWF) around the 1990/91 period and then when dating my then girlfriend in 1999 found she loved WWE and I found how much it had changed, how hardcore it was compared to how it was. I still liked it though. You have to change it with the times you don't want getting stale and losing the audience. Vince McMahon Jr is a great promoter and took it places.
Do hulk hogan
I never clicked so fast.
I have really strong nostalgia for this year because it was when I got into pro wrestling religiously.
All of those replacements at Survivor Series 93 was crazy.
You called Heavenly Bodies, the Beverly Brothers.
I was 10 years old. I was a wrestling fan, and a Hulkamaniac. But this is the year that I started feeling like the WWF is getting dry, they needed new talent and a new approach. The 80's & early 90's golden days were long gone.
one of my favorite years in wwf history
I remember when Carlos Colón came to the ring in the 93 Rumble, Monsoon said "there's a lot of fire in this youngster!" even though Carlos was like 44 years old and the oldest man in the Rumble, lol.

Ludvig Borga was the best thing about this year. Destoyed Marty Jannetty at Summerslam and ended Tatankas streak on RAW. Yokozuna with Ludvig Borga vs Lex Luger was pure GOLD!! Too bad douple injury ended Tony Halme's Ludvig Borga run. First broke his back in Razor Ramon match when 30 days later his angle in Rick Stainer match January 1994 right before Royal Rumble
Ironically, "the narcissist" definitely would be the best guy to represent America.
THIS was my FIRST year watching WWF. I THOUGHT IT WAS SAD TOO.. Boy, oh boy, I bet other fans who watched WWF longer than me were PISSED!!!
The only reason Vince started the WBF to begin with was because Lex Luger was still under contract with WCW and couldn't sign with another wrestling promotion, but he could sign with a bodybuilding promotion. It was only started to sign Luger because Vince was convinced that he could make Luger the next Hulk Hogan.

Some say that 1994 was the start of the New Generation Era. My thoughts? All began in 1993 for sure. The Golden Era to me ended after WM8. Hogan in ‘93 WWF was very out of place by then. To me, ‘93 to somewhere around ‘97 was the NG Era in the WWF.
@martynodonnell8467
2 жыл бұрын
Early 92 to late 93 was very much a “transitional time for the WWF. I would say the NG started around mid 93. Things started to become overly kid friendly and very cartoony. I would also say that the NG ended in late 96. Where WWF went into another transitional period. Before the Attitude era started, between late 97 and WM14.
Does anyone see the people running in the crowd during the brief video of the Steiners match with the Beverlys at the Rumble? What the hell was up with that? Did I miss something?
Can we please have the Shane Douglas story please 🤞
