YEAR IN REVIEW | The WWF in 1994 (Full Year Documentary)
The year 1994 brought us a lot of great things, in the world of television we were first introduced to Friends, in music Nas released Illmatic, and in the WWF we would see the rise of a new generation. Yes, the golden era of Hulkamania was well and truly dead by now and in its wake, a new group of performers were taking over. But as 94 was also the year of the infamous steroid trial, it wasn’t always clear if Vince McMahon’s company would survive this change. So how did it all happen? Well; join us today as we take a deep dive into the entire story from start to finish in; The WWF in 1994: A Year in Review.

These WWF year by year videos are probably my favorites, please keep doing those. Can't wait for the Monday night wars. Still waiting for that Ricochet video.
My first full year of watching WWF from beginning to end, which also means my first Rumble, I was 10 and fully and positively hooked, these will always be some of my fondest Wrestling memories... Looking forward to Revolution tomorrow!

The fact that this video starts by mentioning Nas & Illmatic already made this a 🐐.. 1994 is when I first got introduced to WWF wrestling thru this video game that had Bret Hart, Undertaker, Yokozuna & Shawn Michaels as the main guys.. thems was the days...

Look, Bret is my favourite wrestler of all time, the childhood hero I've always looked upto but despite being the World Champion for most of the year, 1994 totally belonged to Owen. He was in a different league altogether, he might have not won that Brother vs Brother storyline but he was total fire at the time.
Vince already knew Bret was more popular, that's why the finish of the Rumble was as rushed as it was, as he didn't wanna risk Lex getting booed in a final showdown between the two.
94, they came to my hometown!! I put together a Bret poster, and Owen kept pointing and shouting at me...😲 Great times
I'm probably in the minority and I admit I'm definitely biased but Owen Hart was the 1994 MVP of the WWF in my opinion. He's at least in the discussion with his brother and HBK. But Diesel seemed to be the company's pick.

In my opinion.... All Vince had to do was not make Diesel Corporate and just let Diesel be Diesel from the 1994 Royal Rumble. Let Him have the belt as a heel in 1995. So Bret can be the "The People's Fighting Champion" who would have to deal with...Owen, Shawn and Diesel! Now that would have made 1995 epic.

Undertaker vs Undertaker was a good storyline for the WWF in 94.
1994 was such a fun year you had the start of the Owen Bret feud which led to some really good matches with those two and the new generation of stars from razor ramon to Shawn Michaels to diesel to etc and we also got other good feuds and a few storylines as well.

94'-I was 23 years old, in a rock band, and having more fun than was legally allowed. I was still somewhat aware of what was going on, but wasn't paying much attention to wrestling. I never seemed to be home to watch anything when it was on, and we didn't have the internet to catch up with everything. The first time the internet became relevant to wrestling for me was when the NWO was exploding into prominence. I remember it well, because I didn't understand the concept of clickbait yet, and was constantly clicking on links on wrestling sites that were making crazy claims, stuff like "HBK Joining NWO!" and I was clicking on every one of them to the point where I'd have like 20 windows open, with none of the open pages having anything even resembling the clickbait I'd clicked on.

My story is very similar to yours. I stopped watching wrestling around the time Bret Hart beat Ric Flair for the WWF Championship. Got into music, joined a band, and it became my main focus along with the lifestyle and fun that came with it. Then some years later WCW/NWO had taken off and it got popular again. The first PPV I saw was Souled Out in ‘98 I think it was. Bret and Flair wrestled on the card in a very similar match to the WWF one years earlier. I had picked up where I left off and things were coming full circle in a way. Good times and memories throughout it all.
The year by year is for sure the best thing ever, thanks for doing the Sid one too

In 93 i was 7 years old. I had found wrestling watching crappy wcw Saturday night airings i snuck to watch after everyine went to sleep. It was ok. Later on in 94 my best friend Ben gives me a vhs tape at school that had the 94 WrestleMania recorded on it. I took it home and watched it over and over again. I instantly fell in love with the WWF and it was light years agead of what i had seen in the stale wcw shows. Bret Hart instantly became my favorite of all time and i stayed watching his carreer all the way to the wcw where i would stop watching wrestling all together by 1999. 94 to 98 were some of the best times to be a wrestling fan and a kid. Wouldnt trade that vhs tape for the world.
I forgot Scott Hall was in that match Shawn Michaels had against that ladder.
Im really liking this series so far, keep up the good work.
I'd love to own the year by year WWE dvd set from late 80's to mid 90's when I watched the most, think they did VHS specials at the time, which I think you can get on dvd with certain events etc.

That was a great finish to the Rumble. And the Yoko and Undertaker finish was epic
If I went back in time to actually book this event in 94 I would have had lex Luger drop the belt to Randy Savage at the survivor series in 93 and start off 94 Randy Savage being world champion leading to him versus Bret Hart at wrestlemania at 10. Have bert drop the belt to Owen at survivor series (suck it up Owen you're going to get the belt whether you like it or not) for the rest of 1994.
Can't overlook that Bret and Shawn's failure to draw almost lead to WCW putting WWF out for good. Then came Austin...
Getting better at the inaccuracies. Although Owen did not throw in the towel at Survivor Series, his mom did. This is an important part of the storyline, so getting it wrong is bad.
@GeoGuy388

He convinced his mom to throw in the towel. And honestly, it's not a particular important part of the story at all. The point of who threw in the towel had no impact on anything that would happen after that point, in fact.

I have a lot of nostalgia for 95 too. It was the year I got into wrestling. Having only watched a few shows prior. The booking for 95 was awful though. The worst rumble, as far as star attraction goes. In Your House being headlined by an awful Diesel VS Sid main event. WM being headlined by a football player. King Mabel winning King of The Ring, then headlining Summerslam. As well as the god awful In Your House 4 PPV.
