He was a versatile actor, but peoples demand has made him romantic actor only. philanthropist in swades, villian in don and negative character in baazigar, asperger syndrome patient in my name is khan . thats how diverse his characters used to be. now dilwale, happy new year, Jab tak hai jaan(only got success due to yash chopra being alive at that time)

I can relate to this movie, my Dad was a scientist @ NIST W. DC, and he left everything, the great pay, comfort, everything and came back to India, so that he can help us (our country) grow. Now he works in IPR (N. Fusion Plant) Gandhinagar India, helping us grow.

DarkKnight9i9 LOL.. chosen Few movies - are good not how you make out to be.. Best Directors like Bhanshali has said SRK is not an actor knows acting (after Devdas).. Dont get me wrong I like Daar, Swades, Yes Boss, Raju Ban gaya Gentlemen, Chak De and Devdas but he still a show piece!

a lot of people are getting it wrong. this movie is not about missing your homeland. the message is that he is needed much more in his homeland. his skills put him in a position where he can help uplift and develop the rural areas. not to say that everyone who goes to the US or foreign countries for a job should return. but from what I got from this movie , it's about his calling was back in India trying to uplift the rural areas. in the US he was just another scientist working for NASA and arguably doing meaningful work but there are others who could do that job too.. but if he came back, with his skills and his sensitivity he could uplift the rural areas. a lot of people have the skills but not everyone has the sensitivity to suffering. there are many scenes in the movie where srk s character shows sensitivity towards the suffering of the poor rural people that many others including richer rural people were totally insensitive towards.

Abhishek Bhat true bro, this movie should have came out now and people with the right help of social media and promotions, would have made it a huge success and given all the praise it deserved. Too bad that it came back in 2004 when audience wasn't responsive enough to qualtiy movies. Funny that srk didn't get applauses back then for sucha subtle realistic performance in this film, the time when he actually deserved it, but keeps getting now with over the top performances in mediocre films like a Dilwale or a chennai xprs. Guess its karma!

Lagaan and Swades (meaning Homeland/Native Country) are probably Aamir and Shahrukh Khan's best performances in their respective careers. Same director Ashutosh Gowariker. He has also directed one of Hrithik's best films of his career (Jodha Akbar). He easily would have been the most revered director in mainstream Bollywood if he hadn't made terrible films in the last 5 or 6 years.

It's not just that he was missing home. He realised that being a scientist he could actually help his villagers and put his talent to use in his village where everyone loves him and wants him. While he was enjoying all kinds of comforts of living in a big city far away from home, something that he took for granted, things like electricity were something that didn't have till he helped them get it.. and he knows that home is where he is needed... the place close to his heart as well as the place where he can actually make a difference.

i am not indian but the i learned from my indian friends about the cast reservation of your country and with all due respect to your country ,its a very stupid and logicless system . The majority of talented people leave your country is because of that stupid system which allows people less talented than them get jobs because of their caste. Now no man would refuse it if they have a better oportunity to get a good job with good salary in abroad if his country has such system.

sorry ,but i just cant find any logic in ensuring one's job judging by his cast not by his talent . how can u justify such a thing ? its pure discrimination to the people who deserve it more but doesnt get the jobs because they dont match the quota !!

son of a gun yes u can't. But lower cast people are very poor. They can't go abroad .. and they are not very smart

you must definitely watch this moviethis will make tears in ur eye ashutosh govarikar is the writer director of this movie who is also writer director of LAGAN and JODHA AKBAR....

This is one of the best movies of SRK....n jaby....its not only about missing India...this is a movie about how the talent pools of India are sifting abroad and forgetting about the need of the country but once they see n feel the need of the country closer how they realise how badly the country needs them.....love this movie....u should definitely watch it jaby....

This song makes me swell up from inside everytime i listen to it. One of the most patriotic songs ever still gives me goosebumps!! On a side note, Chuck and Achara are the two best 2 guests on the channel. More so cause Achara reminds me of my ex-girlfriend and Chuck is really a insightful man.

Admire the patience you guys showed with this. Its a very lyric based melancholic (is that a word?) song.

Swades and Dil Se are Shah Rukh Khan's most underrated movies. We desi like masala movies over quality.

You hold your emotions throughout the movie and when this song hits you, you just can't control the tears anymore.

I am a big fan of AR Rahman. He is the guy that changed the quality of sound forever in the Indian music industry beginning at 1992. Before him there was great music but were recorded terribly on tape. Unrecoverable, cant be remastered, THAT bad. All the beautiful sounding music that one hears from India today is because of that one man. Digital Multi-track layering, creative use of synthesizers, sampling sound from almost everything that can make it. Then he won an Oscar. Now i never hear of him again. Friends dont recommend any of his music. Most Indian film music sound like him. Some of us really miss him. :(

yes, chuck it was like Gospel and Acharya Ballad too. It has this feeling of calling you and pulling you. Lots and lots of Indian people feel the same about coming and living in USA, but they tie their emotions and put it in a bucket until they get old.

This song makes me cry every time I listen to it. Just the way it is , it touches your soul.

The song is actually more than just missing home. It's more about giving back to the place from where you have taken. It's about this man who comes to realise that if he is not able to give back to his own country who actually needs people like him to progress, then what's the point of all that he has and all that he has earned!! There is a subtle reference with America, a very prosperous economy, where most educated and talented India youth serve, leaving behind their own country which actually needs and also deserves their talent for its own progress. However the best part of the movie is, its very emotional and personal narrative which doesn't seem to moral police someone's choice even a bit. It's inspired from a true story and is one of my favourite stories.
