Yamaha YC61 - New Rotary Speaker - New OS 1.2

Музыка

Last February 22nd Yamaha released a new OS 1.2 update for the YC keyboard. The highlight of this update was the creation of a new high quality and fidelity Rotary Speaker (Leslie) simulator, as the previous one was terribly bad. Yamaha named this new Rotary Speaker as Studio. It also includes new FM organs, in which it is possible to change the parameters of the operators through the drawbars, with creativity and patience it is possible to create some interesting sounds and textures.
I installed this new 1.2 update on my YC61 and made this video just to show the sounds of the new Studio Speaker and also the new FM organs. 4:02 - New FM Organ

I’m actually thinking of going to this fro my Hammond SKPro as I’m super frustrated w the programming required and inability to get to perameters quickly. The new update sounds awesome. One question I have when playing organ does the keybed fire from the top or does it require bottoming out to sound?

Could you comment on how much force is needed to depress the keys toward the fall board. A lot, as is typical with a lot of non-piano actions, or is there not a big difference between the force needed between the front and back of the keys on the yc-61. Thanks.

Thanks, but often it sounds like you are using the Classic Rotary Sim instead of the new Studio Rotary. Maybe just the way it's recorded but I have to say mine sounds different. Seems to have a better spread and more mids than what I'm hearing here

Thanks for the comments. Well, here we go: I used the new rotary speaker "Studio" in this video. But I used a very simple equipment to record, maybe that affected the channel separation and the audio response. This new simulator "Studio" is quite different from the "Classic". The "Studio", even in mono, the rotor and horns spin, completing the physical spin cycle. In "Classic" in fast, the sounds of the rotor and horns mix in a very strange way, you can't hear the physical spin cycle, just a series of totally unnatural sounds, something bizarre. I don't know why Yamaha approved the use of this "Classic" initially, it should be removed from the YC and whoever created it should be fired from Yamaha, for me it has no use.

@@musichobby2198 I agree. After I did the update it was a noticeable difference and actually a pleasure play. You're probably correct as to the reason why it sounded different

Here’s some crazy stuff, I came here to see if I should just give up on the MODX7 (Montage sounds), button pushing/menu diving and just get a stage board and wow! Nice Leslie! In a last desperate attempt to save my wallet, I listened close and pushed buttons until I got THAT sound. I inserted an internal tube amp sim with a flat speaker, mixed in a pinch of gain and a little direct sound right before the Leslie sim and I got THAT sound. I wish I’d figured this out 20 years ago when I bought the Motif Classic. Anyway, thanks for the video, it really helped me out. I still want a yc73 but I’ll just keep an eye out for a used one now.

How do you control the rotary speed? Foot pedal?

In this video a use a simple footswitch pedal connected to YC's assignable input. The pedal is assigned to the rotary on/off.

It’s a MUCH better rotary, but unfortunately it’s STILL louder on the right than the left, by as much as 6db! I still have to pan the mixer pretty far to the left to get the rotary centered in the stereo field.
