It starts and idles good but cuts out when I start opening the throttle, out of frustration I put it on the back burner but would like to tear back into it and see what the problem might be, had the carb off 20 times and wonder if I may have lapped the valves too much. Nice vid, well done. Would have liked an explanation afterward of how you installed the piston, did you squeeze the rings with bare hands? Also, how did you know when the valve lapping was complete? Lastly, do you use a special tool for the crank and TDC inspection covers? they look like slots

  • @TomsTinkeringandAdventures

    @TomsTinkeringandAdventures

    3 жыл бұрын

    Most motorcycle piston rings can be installed by squeezing with your hands. Valve lapping is something that you kind of learn, but a good test is to install the springs and put some gasoline in the intake and exhaust ports to see if it leaks past. And finally, a large flat tip screwdriver works for the covers.

    alex soto if the valve clearance is good and the timing is correct, the next thing to check would be the carburetor. Make sure it is taken apart and all passages are clear. The jets need to be clear, use a tiny wire if you can.

    Old Bones Garage well it’s not a bad idea but these bikes are usually really reliable. You’re that far into it, a new set of rings and a quick cylinder hone isn’t going to break the bank.

    Make sure all the bolts are off first thing, don’t ask me how I learned that. A bit of tapping with a rubber mallet might help break it loose, shouldn’t take much.
