Bad engine setting design related to pulling a rope to start the engine. And a lousy, flimsy switch selection made by a manufacturer. Excellent job on your side!
@@williamdeslauriers9647 well the price was amazing!
Understandable!
Did you have to add extra oil to the engine after installing oil cooler ? To make up for the amount traveling through the cooler boss just wanting to know if to add a little more oil then it takes.
@@carloscuevas164 maybe a few ounces, not a lot.
My xt started having a weird blinker problem. One side blinks fast as if a bulb is broken. But i got all new bulbs. Blinker relay and even a new blinker housing. If i swap the right and left wires the problem switched sides. So it's somewhere in the wiring sadly. As it blinks on and off, the engine cuts on and off (with the fast side) Very strange. Any ideas? I also took apart and cleaned the turning/ horn switch. Not that i don't think. Thanks
Traced wires and they all look ok. No frays no breaks.
@@georgeponzoni3554 sounds like a ground issue?
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures how do I look for, check for and fix that?
@@georgeponzoni3554 I would start by removing the turn signals one at a time, see if the problem goes away with one of them removed. Maybe look very closely at all the wiring. Engine cutting out makes me feel that a power wire somewhere is possibly missing insulation and grounding against something.
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures funny thing is, if I remove the front blinker from the bike (of the side blinking fast) the bike will not start. And the "neutral", "high beam" and turn signal indicator lights, all light up at once (up by the speedometer) when the start button is pressed. Very strange.
After watching this series, I started a craigslist search alert for any Concours listing <$1000. Got a hit last week on a very nice example that had an acute, but very curable cooling issue. Local rides indicate the problem is solved, and I am going to ride up to Julian this weekend for the full shakedown. Valves and spark plugs in the near future. Thanks for the inspiration! These are a lot of bike for not a lot of $.
@@jg9112003 yeah, even this one at $250 wasn’t an amazing deal except for having the trailer. They are great low bucks touring bikes, see you on the backroads!
I ought to bring my pontoon boat over. haha. 50 hp Merc twin carb.. lower carb was overflowing. Found the needle sticking. Carb kit ordered months ago was the wrong one. New one will arrive next week. Good thing not in a rush
@@ray77j I don’t like working on boats! 😂
i dont believe it cracks when the side stand is out?
@@shanemouton7606 you are correct! Took me a bit to get used to that
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures it got me too, i was starting it after washing it on the main stand and then i went to the shop and "it wouldn't start" because i was using the side stand LOL Should have known I have some other full sized bikes with the same safety catch. gotta love fuel injection
@@phillippugh2161 sometimes.
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures well the fuel injector didn't fell just the pump . Mainly because it sat in old fuel for 10 years . If you ride a old bike everyday you won't have issues. I'll take it over carbs any day
@@phillippugh2161 yeah, I have a mix of both in my garage and the FI stuff is less of a problem usually. This BMW was a very early model of FI on motorcycles and it still works pretty good.
2 hours of your life you’ll never get back.. this is why humans are a disposable society. At $50/hour I’ll just buy a new one.
Great video! Can you show how to take the front panel off to access the seat cord? I closed my keys in the seat!
If I still had the scooter I would. It’s been sold for a few years!
Even the mountain lion was like "wtf???"
I miss my scooter! That thing was a blast.
I've done this same process a few times and afterwards installed a large capacity filter. No problems. Thanks for posting :) Ride safe
It works pretty good, thanks’
You didn't show Hou to adjust the idler 😮
Darn, I’m sorry!
Have you done any change to the ECU? Because its pointless without changing dead-times in the ECU which are likely totally different for EV14 vs the EV1 or EV6 injectors you have there.
I didn't touch the ECU. Bike ran pretty good after the fresh fuel pump and got better the more I rode it.
I have 2008 vino 125 with a trike kit attached. I've got about 16,000 miles.
Cool!
Vino is Italian for wine. Interesting name for a motor vehicle.
Like my old Kymco Bet & Win, seems like scooter names are weird.
Nice job Bro. You make all the fixes look easy.
Well I had to do it twice, so I got lots of practice.
I used to own a 2011 Vespa in the past. Now it is sold. The Vespa had its fuel shutoff valve which opened as soon as an engine started.
Same as this one, pretty common on most,
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures It comes from the engine's air intake, which creates vacuum, causing the fuel shutoff valve to opens and letting some gas flows downward.
@@williamdeslauriers9647 yes, it’s called a “vacuum operated petcock”, majority of carbureted street bikes and scooters have them.
Cool. Theres a couple of Yamaha scooters sitting in my garage for ones day....
I like scooters, great get around vehicles.
I remember the show, one of the greatest show, history is always good, ain't nothing like good old western ways,I was raised from a small town in Texas,,where good old Waylon Jennings was from.. blessings to you all..wish times wasn't so hard as it is now
Pretty wholesome show, I suppose it would need a warning these days about Pa smoking his pipe! 😂 Simpler times but life was hard work. Thanks for sharing.
I am glad that you have some strong acetone in stock! Cute granddaughter of yours! Cool kid tricycle restoration.
She didn’t ride it too much, now she’s way too big!
Gotta love the ASTRO van
I appreciate the video man! Good shit 🤘

Is the stem nut a 30 mm on my 2004 KLX 300.
I can’t recall what size it is, sorry.
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures yep it is same as newer model KLXs thanks
The tip over switch.
Nope!
Just clipping ends on sparkplug wires..... Is that your final answer ??? I have 03 nomad. I would like to chat about a couple problems I have. You seem sharp . I be been a mechanic my entire adult life but colorblind and wiring sucks on this bike👍
@@RussEll-fy1ob no, not the final answer. I made a few more videos about the bike.
Makes me want to buy one NOW!!! 🤪
If you find a good deal on one and can use it, go for it. I really didn’t have a use for this one but really wanted to work on one and experience it a little. I would buy one again if I needed a comfortable smooth machine!
I love these bikes. Got a free z650 myself a few months back. Utterly worth every cent I subsequently spent!
Free bikes are fun but sometimes end up costing more than they are worth
Does anyone know where i could find a bolt assembly thats full functional for my model 583.1 ive looked everywhere and im only finding non working bolts
Unfortunately this gun was subject to a recall and many of these are probably scrapped, sorry to say.
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures thanks for the info, do you know any good websites where someone would be able to fabricate some missing parts for the bolt?
@@H3LLSTRIK3R if I were looking for parts I’d probably keep an eye on the GunBroker site. Maybe you can set an alert for parts that come up?
That link looks like 1/2" not 1 1/4"
It seems like these links never lower the bike the amount they say. I suppose if you have the preload cranked up to max, then install the link and remove all the preload it might be correct?
Great job. I put mine up on the center stand, on top of a 4x4 . That will give you more room to pull the rear tire out.
A great idea, I should have thought of that!
Great video! I'm going to be doing this job real soon on my 06'.
Thank you, good luck!
Nice van. They are pretty reliable. They used them for service vehicles where I used to work. Lasted forever, even with the abuse.
I see a lot of mobile car detailing places still using these. It’s an old GM product, for sure going to have some issues but it’s fixable. Looking forward to using it.
Thanks
Hope it helped.
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures indeed, wait one month for the repair man, decided to do it myself. Great video !!!

What happened to your fingernail? What color is that?
Custom colored by my manicurist.
Wait a minute…. Just a few comments…. 1. The 4 wheel adventures should also include road trips on interstate highways to visit your favorite sister… 2. You got a new trash can! Where is your Frankenstein trash can? 3. You must add a cool paint job on this beast, think red, white and blue (like PBR)…?? 4. Loving your new sound effects system to describe the sounds of the top flapping thing..😅 I almost peed my pants laughing!! Good thing Biden showed me how to “depends”….😊5. Kitchen thing only really needs a cooler to hold PBR…. You can pack a rocket stove to heat food if the engine won’t heat up the crack chicken…. Because there are restaurants along most roads nowadays! Yeah and number 6. Please fix that dimple in the backside!! … you could use some styrofoam insulation on that back inside body frame area! Dang, you’ve gotta love having such a brainiac sister that loves to laugh at life in general!! Plus, you have to make sure that you put an outlet in there so she can sew….. love ya! 😮
No sewing machines will be in this van. The kitchen thing is kind of cool but probably more than I need. Body work is a maybe, it’s not too bad but maybe I can get it done south of the border for cheap?
Looks beautiful 2 me, know no comparison but I had the 600 r and now have the 650L , a lot of fun
All the XR’s share a lot of lineage back to the 70’s. Honda did it right on these bikes, it’s rare to find someone who doesn’t like them.
Yes I do remember those adverts
At least someone does! 😂
Thanks!
Thank you!
Nice to have that vehicle! I once owned a 1989 Chevy Astro Cargo Van in the past. Very easy to look over another short and small and vehicles, equal to riding a very big horse! Watch for its axles. Working on its engine might request you to take its internal hood off.
Yeah, getting to most of the engine requires the removal of the "doghouse" but that comes off pretty easily. I had to get in there the other day, it looks like the engine has had some maintenance recently (plugs, wires.cap/rotor) so that's good.
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures One more thing, I want to tell you. The van's oil dipstick and automatic transmission dipstick are way longer than average length of these dipsticks!

Thanks Tom, that was a nice ride, but watching you guys go in that mine was freaking me out! Lol
