Yamaha MT-03 Honest Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

By popular demand today we are doing a Yamaha MT-03 Honest review! You all know that Yamaha motorcycles are some of my favorites, so of course when they put out the new Yamaha MT-03 motorcycle you know I had to go and ride one!
The 2020 Yamaha MT-03 naked sport bike is a sport standard motorcycle with an upright standard seating position, built off of the proven Yamaha R3 platform, specifically designed as a great beginner motorcycle or more accurately a great sport bike for beginners (or advanced riders that want a REALLY fun little bike). The Yamaha MT 03 for beginners is a great option, let's talk about it!

Great review! I had a 2016 R3, then I got the 2017 R6 It’s a masterpiece machine, but! a very uncomfortable bike for long rides! The MT-03 looks like it will be a perfect second bike for me! Specially for log rides!

Great video!! Have you have a chance to try the Honda CB 300R? If so, any opinion of the CB over the MT or vice versa? I am an older rider looking at this category and looking for a light, easy to handle bike. I know that the CB is much lighter but is it too light and does the single engine make it a disadvantage over the MT. I used to own an R3 and loved it so I know what the engine is capable of and I have heard that the MT suspension is setup a little better for every day riding. Thoughts?

Great review. When Alex is reviewing a bike I always want to hear that it has "a buttery smooth" transmission. Seems like a great bike and a consideration if I find the right deal. Still thinking I may need to hold out a year or so and get an RE Continental GT. We'll see. In the meantime I will just soak up the info from Alex's reviews. If you are new to Alex's youtube videos I encourage you to like and subscribe for great info, especially if you are new to motorcycling.

@@AlexSimmons11c no doubt. I have had both a standard bike and a kawasaki gpz. I think either the Continental GT or a standard would be fine. I have sat on some cruisers and don't think that seating position would work for me. I like the look of some cruisers and used it seems there are some good deals on cruisers, but I just don't like the position. I do like the riding position of a standard, cafe, or sport bike.

As twice owner of an R3 first was a 2015 now a 2019/2020. I’m not sure if a naked/street fighter MT/R3 works? I’m courteous to see how Alex feels about it. I loved my first one so much I bought another but a street fighter version?

I wonder if they will put a slipper clutch on the 2021 model. (Anyone know?) It's the only thing holding me off on this bike. I really don't want to get the Kawi due to its design language.. but its got more HP,CC and a slipper clutch.

  • @AlexSimmons11c

Not sure if they would or not, Yamaha may not find it a necessary thing on a "smaller" bike aimed at a price point, but then again if Kawasaki did it obviously it's not that costly to add haha. We will see!

I have one, 2020 model, that here, in Brazil, is the older one. I think you don´t really need a slipper clutch in this 321 cc displacement motor. When I tested MT 07 last week, I realized the desirable effects of it when you downshift, but in a matter of minutes, I was adapted.

I recently saw a used 2020 MT03 with 1200 miles on it for sale at a dealer about 40 miles away from me for only 3999. It has got me thinking maybe I just buy a small bike instead of waiting to save up or take on the cost of a new RE 650. I am just not sure I could be happy with a small "beginner" bike. I will be curious to see the review and perhaps if one closer to me is for sale I will take it for a test drive if I can. I went to a local Honda dealer that has been in business for at least 50 years and they do not allow test rides, unless you have your own motorcycle insurance. I need to check out some other dealers.

Yeah you've mentioned before the "no test rides without your own insurance" deal...that sucks! I just rode the MT-03 at a dealer without needing it...it really helps sell bikes when people can ride them and understand whether it will work or not! Let me know what you think after tmrw morning's video, I think it's a cool bike :-)

absolutely. I take mine on 4+ hour rides and when I get home I still want to ride more. Just be wary of long highway/interstate rides because as a naked bike, it has the same weakness to wind that all nakeds do. Other than that you can throw some saddle bags on it and have a blast!

Thanks for a pretty good review Alex, but your "jiggly pointy hand thing" is really very distracting and ultimately annoying. It adds nothing to and in fact detracts from the delivery of the good information and thoughts you have. Also, please slow your delivery down - you speak way to fast! Considering getting one of these very soon (downsizing from a 1200 cc bike) Keep up the good work though...

I prefer confident reliability. All I had to do on my starter yammy 125 was to change the spark plug. If this can do a 100 and be calm at 70 that's all you need on a naked, unless it's dry windless Arizona.
