Xtra Speed Diff Lock SCX-10 Axles - Update

Ойын-сауық

In this video we go over the fix to the Xtra Speed SCX-10 Diff Lock Axles.
Please note that in order to run these axles you must run them on BOTH the front AND the rear of the truck as they have a different rotation than the stock SCX-10 axles.
No sponsorship was received for any of the products mentioned in this video. They were just specified so that you would know what we used.

Thanks again, can't wait to see you mount them and try them out the trail. With regards to the questions of the purposes of these axles, it is for scale trucks and trail runners. We like realism and these are getting closer. I don't drive my Rubicon with the front and rear diffs locked all day lol. Also it would help with the turning radius when we need it on the trail and not in a situation that requires lockers.

I know this is an old video, but these axles remind me of how Chrysler did their 4WD engagement. Doing something similar with the new JL, too.

Hello. Here we are in 2019 and I'm building a Frankintruck based on the HPI Wheelie king with a bigger wider wheelbase. What I'm after are some front axels for 4 wheel steering also diff locks would be great. If I can get them do you think the axels in this video would be suitable?

No, not at all. These axles are among the worst I own & would require a ton of work to make them what you want. I think you would be better off buying the axles from a Traxxas TRX4. You’ll probably need a counter rotation transfer case as well.

@@Rcculture I've been having a good look at the axles, the issue is that I can't get a counter rotation transfer case to fit my truck. I may have an idea though, if it works out I'll send you an email. Thanks for the help.

No, I don’t believe they are made anymore and honestly I can’t recommend anyone buying them.

Poorly made axles, I wouldn't buy them.

I think it depends on your expectations. As the first 1:10 scale axles with an optional servo actuated diff lock I had to try them. If you watched the first video I said from the start that they aren't Vanquish quality, but then again not much is. I may have a "kit" available soon to correct the problems that my axles have if anyone else needs it, hopefully XtraSpeed will address the machining & polishing tolerances and quality control issues soon. I think if you are willing to do some minor mods they can be a very interesting option and could add a very scale experience to your adventures.

+RCCulture you are well spoken and certainly you can fix the problem. I wonder though, what purpose an open diff on a crawler could have? I drive very slowly with mine and with most off-road surfaces a locked axle steers well. The slop and the improper length of the steering rod combined with the questionable need for open diffs combine in my mind as a waste of money. The diffs on a Traxxas Summit are pretty cool and there is a reason to want open diffs in that vehicle.

+Stricklinator Thank you. I think it depends on your definition of "crawler". From a 1:1 scale perspective these would be like adding an ARB air diff locker in your showroom stock vehicle. From a 1:10 scale perspective I think these would be mostly for someone who wants to emulate that as close as possible. So it would be people who do a lot of trailing with some rock crawling or someone that wants the ultimate scale SORRCA Class 1 rig. There is also the scale novelty factor of being able to independently lock up the diffs. I agree that these wouldn't be very useful for someone that does almost nothing but dedicated rock crawling such as a Class 3 rig like a rock buggy.
