Would you say its worth it for the 1200MBPS plan. Im moving into a house with 8 guys and theres no other company option. Not sure whether to get my own Modem/Router and some wifi extenders

Hi @alex blatte, so I would like to say yes as long as you hard wire your setup. This will assure the best signal strength to you. I have no hard wire and I’m getting ok speeds but not close to the 600mbps I am signed up for bc The modem is not close to my set up. Also bc you have so many devices chipping away at the signal, you may not get the speed you want. So hard wire is my best suggestion.

do you think i could connect my smart home accessories without any issues?

Hi @mattola6, if you mean that your accessories will be able to connect to it via wifi, yes. There should be no issues.

Nice set up man but if your pc is not hardwired then hardwire. I have a cat 8 running to my pc through my garage into the back room. I have the same modem an push 900mbs download speeds.

Hi @xxdflantfigurexx, I appreciate it. I agree hardwire would be best. Unfortunately the wife does not more holes in the walls. I have to do what is best to keep her happy… I think you know what I mean. Lol

If I buy this do I have to have cable for the wifi to work? I just want to buy it so I can have my own internet in my college dorm on campus. I plan on using an Ethernet cord and connecting it to my game.

Hi @vjoshton, so yes you will get the cables to connect the router to the your game unit. The length though is short. Something like 6 feet maybe. That might be enough for your set up. Anyhow, yes you get the cable too.

Which plan and router/modem do h have? I have the 900mbps plan and a arris modem that is only maxing at 600 when it goes up to 800

Hi @nocturnallytoxic, I have the 600mpbs plan. I test the speed and it does not get to 600. I get about 400

With xfinity you can buy your own router modem wifi 6, without any problem?

Hi @James Wyatt, so to answer you question, yes, you can use your own router/modem instead of renting xfinit's modem/router. hope that helps you out.

so I just got the xfi gateway and it's supposed to come today.. but I've never had wifi or internet before. I've just used mobile hotspots or my phone lol.. will this device send wifi signals throughout my whole apartment like a hotspot? Or will I have to hook it up with cables to every device in my home?

Hi @clovis, so once you hook the gateway up, your space should get wifi. Now depending on how far your devices are, the signal will be weaker if you are farther away and stronger when you are closer. That’s why people will use extenders to get a stronger signal when the device is farther away. Otherwise, people will use hardwire to get a strong signal no matter where they are in the space or if they are farther away from the gateway. I hope that answers your question. Enjoy!

Hi @htxplays, so I bought a compatible modem with xfinity. Then I returned the xfinity modem saving me 14 a month. I hope this helps you out.

Could you use another router? I have a night hawk that works great

Hi @michael OMalley, yes. Another router could be used. There is an approved device list on the xfinity website. As long as you get one of them, everything should work… thx for the question.

So you don't need to plug the ethernet cord into anything, and all you do is just plug in the coax cord and then the power cord? I just ordered Xfi complete with 200mbps plan and was thinking I would have to hook up my 20 foot ethernet cord from my bedroom (where I plan on setting up internet) all the way out into the living room and have to plug the other side of the ethernet cord into my roommates modem. I guess you don't need to use the ethernet unless it's just to hook up to other devices or laptops, correct? I'm setting this up because my roomie isn't willing to upgrade their plan and I need higher speeds for my job. Thankfully I have a coax plug in my bedroom. If that's all I need to do, this video helped so much.

Hi @E M, so that’s correct. You just plug the modem in to the outlet and connect it to the coax cable for wifi and that’s it. You now have internet wifi ready to use. Now connecting a Ethernet cable to your devices would improve the speed bc it’s a direct connection from modem to device. It’s a good idea to do this if you want faster speeds due to the device being farther away from the modem. I use a wifi extender to keep my speeds up bc my device if a little far away from my modem. Anyhow, you have the right idea. Thx for watching and commenting. Have fun!!!

Hi @david hernandez23, thanks for the question. It seems low but its possible I am getting 300 and less with 600 Mpbs package. It also depends how far you are from the sign when you speedtest. The closer you are, the faster the speeds. I hope this helps you out.

If you are testing on a mobile devices, the highest you could get is maybe 600. Mobile device cant handle the 1.2 gb speed. Also make sure you are not on VPN and choose the server that is closest to you.

How does one have such a big house and still qualify for the EBB or SNAP etc?

I know this video is older but you have the xb6 Gateway which has terrible range they should have given you the xb7 which was out when you made this video which has way better range and better overall now they have the xp8 which I hear has better range also the xb6 has Wi-Fi 5x B7 has Wi-Fi 6 and xb8 has Wi-Fi 6E
