I've definitely been overpaying. I'm moving and realized I do not need the expensive 1 Gig plan I've had. But like you said, they are giving me a hard time to downgrade on the transfer to the new place. For someone living alone, even working from home, 200-300 Mbps is more than enough. My bill will go down in half. Great video! Very informative.

I have tried several different providers, same problem. I have ocean on one side, and heavily treed back yard. Even the cell phone singnal booster doesn't work as well. 90% of the time my cell connection is poor.

This definitely gave me some knowledge. I use my neighbors net, they share it. I have a router that is connected to theirs and I get decent ping (1ms) for which I use lan cable connected to my pc and router. I play a lot of games and my download speed is really slow as when I try downloading a 8gb game it takes 2-3 hours and larger file games take an entire day or more than a day. But in the game I get decent ping and no wifi issues. I think my only problem is download speed and this could be because of the shared network and I'm planning to get a new one, I'm not sure which offer to go for but I should probably get a 250mpbs right? It costs 108$ for 250mpbs here and I think it is dsl cable.

My work usually consists of the usual email sending and receiving, zoom calls, vpn use and connecting to a SQL server to retrieve data. I don't want to have slow internet for work but I also don't want to overpay if I don't need anything more than 50 MPG.

Very informative thank you! I know this is a few years old, but it was done very well and appreciate everything you mentioned. I have a plan through Xfinity. It's just internet and streaming on my t.v. The internet is 600 mbps the plan says. I am trying to figure out if I am paying too much at $90.00 when i only use the internet for email and looking up info. Sure, other times sending out resumes, a pc game every now and then, and zoom once a week. Seems to be rather pricey. I live in West Seattle so there aren't a lot of options for cable companies here. So, I hope you can answer this. When different companies advertise plans of internet speed are they actually the same or might it be slower?

  • @JJFlores197

    @JJFlores197

Based on the info you gave, it does seem that you have an internet plan much higher than you need. You can get by with even a 50 Mbps connection and you likely won't notice much of an difference except for downloading large games. Pretty much all ISPs advertise their "up to" speeds. In their legal language, they claim you can get "up to" a certain speed, but they can't guarantee you will actually get that speed as there are many factors, some outside of their control.

Hi! So I will soon be sharing a room in a different state and one big problem i have is wifi... I really care about cyber security and I definitely do not want to use either public wifi or the wifi shared within the apartment... I do not use... lets say crazy amount of data on my laptop, but it is like being on the internet/web based activity for a long period of time for sure. Right now, I think I have two options the first is to get my own wifi plan and rent a router from a reliable company like verizon or google good part for this plan is that... it probably will be cheaper than a mobile pocket wifi routing machine the negative side for this plan is that since my device will be staying in the apartment, people staying there can have access to the physicial machine and of they have bad intention they can always do something on the device... the second is to get a protable wifi pocket machine and a plan... which I have never tried using and am not sure how the plan works... If you dont mind could you recommend me a safe, decently charged, wifi plan that could be a good fit for my situation? I do not need long range or any of the fancy function, all i need is a wifi that works in my room have decent data coverage and is cybersecurity wise safe and cannot be influenced by other people that i do not grant access to Thank you so much, and I hope to hear back from you!

honestly you can keep jumping back and forth in promotions as long as you read the fine print of the cable providers. Most providers state you can't be put into another promotion after 1 to 2 years after a cancellation of services...at that point your qualified for a reset of your promotion. Essentially you can jump and bounce around from promotion to promotion. Just make sure you read your tos and don't try to sign up to early... you might be put into what they call rack rate, which it at regular price... as someoone who worked in cable briefly use this to your advantage. :)

I have had the 1 GB service from Comcast and now have the Verizon 4G LTE Home Service. It is capped at 50 mbps and we have had no issues with the speed. We stream with two Roku Ultra devices, an android box, a music streamer, quite a few devices using the network along with a VOIP setup for a land line. No gaming, but it easily handles the grand kids and their games when they come over. Best part about the Verizon service, it never goes down like Comcast did. It has ran 24/7 since I installed the box, that was well over two years ago. And it is only $50 a month, no contract.

I saved a lot of money to. So you should really figure out your internet use and what you’ll be using it for and not pay more then you have to.

I've been on the plan for 800 speed with xfinity. And I recently just called Comcast because my bill went up and I wanted to lower it back down. They did get my price back down with a new plan at 800 speed again. But when I did a speed test is only getting 250. I feel like i'm getting ripped off. Its wireless and pretty fast but i dont want ro be paying 2x as much for nothing

Good video…..we have reliable internet at 300mbps. That’s plenty fast and actually overkill for our use….but that’s the lowest speed available at the cable company named Optimum. We also have two AT&T 5g unlimited hotspots that pull in 25mbps all the way to 265mbps depending on the location. I actually prefer the hotspots as they have proven to be extremely reliable, Mobile internet, and use as backup internet at home.

Explain it well. I am supposed to have 500 from Frontier but I think I only get 5Mbps. For the last 30 years. I am sick of Frontier frustration. Now they raise the bill again. I will be changing internet providers next week 02/24🎉. I have only two choices Frontier or Spectrum. Frontier there's no one to talk to just Bots. Spectrum customer service is always there. I think I over purchased my package of a 1000Mbps not understanding and thinking I needed after years of frustration. Trying to exit Frontier will be another challenge🙏

For the most part, all we do is watch KZread videos, browse the internet, and social media apps. If I plan to use an xfinity gateway (whole-home wifi coverage), should I go with 50mgbs, 100mgbs, or 300mgbs?

This doesn't happen every call but sometimes it will be every call awhile until I restart my computer. Websites load pretty slow also and I need web pages while I work. Do I need a new modem or is my plan not the best for working from home?

How do you receive calls? Is it from your home phone through your provider or do you use some program on your computer to take calls? If it is on the computer, you ideally want your computer to be plugged in via ethernet cable instead of using wifi.

In Canada a 50mb plan cost 80 dollars and then 20 dollars on top of that for the unlimited data so no data caps. Comes in about 120 dollars after taxes so it’s not cheap here. With DSL we can get plans at 15mb 25mb 50mb 75mb and 150mb if you go fibre you can get 250mb to 3gb and you’ll be paying an arm and a leg for that. Oh and by the way Cable is slower than DSL. Cable is shared with the whole block of homes so at peak hours your internet can slow drastically. DSL is a phone line connection and it is not shared so you’ll never lose your speed but will pay more.

I need my speed to be 25 or above on my computer, could you tell me how many mbps I will need to achieve that? I feel Cable companies are trying to up sell me instead of answering the question. • @kevthedev9388

Now that depends on the durability of the internet service provider network. If everyone is using the internet heavily at the same time, it definitely will reduce the speeds you get, that is true. However, it’s hard to say if you should pay for more bandwidth. Let’s say you pay for 100, but during periods of heavy neighborhood-use you are only getting 40. Does that mean if you were to pay for 500 that you would see an increase during the heavy period? I’m not sure. That depends on the ISP. Some may increase it proportionately, others may have an absolute limit.

I game a bit and stream KZread 1440p. I feel like 250 is already over kill. Im currently in the market for a mesh setup for better range but honestly we already get 180-200 untill it drops off at the far corner of one work desk. So many videos obsessing over 2400gbps. I just dont understand how any normal person could use 1/10th of that... hence how i found your video to make sure I'm not crazy ;)

You're not crazy, but you got the wrong units of measurements. Most Internet speeds are in Megabits per second (Mbps). It is extremely unlikely any ISP will sell you a 1000 Gbps connection at the residential level. You probably mean 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps). But if your current internet speed works well for your use cases, that's fine. No need to upgrade.

Kevin, just saw your Internet video. I have two laptops on Windows 10 using to search the web, using Instagram, downloads. If they are both running at the same time than my DSL runs extremely slow. In your average usage rates, what Mbps range value can be used to determine bandwidth?
